Here are some additional thoughts after marinating on the topic for a bit: - My hunch is that the Thomas Big Loader's current lack of availability is more due to Mattel not extending the license with TOMY to make the Thomas version past 2018. Mattel and TOMY may not play super nice together since they're both toy companies, even though Mattel would stand to make money from the collaboration since TOMY would be paying to use the Thomas license for their popular toy. This relationship (or lack thereof) would explain why the Thomas Big Loader Set is seemingly not for sale anywhere anymore, hence the dead link on TOMY's official site. - What's also interesting is that the John Deere version isn't available anymore either but TOMY still has loads of other John Deere toys for sale on their website...maybe TOMY doesn't care to make the Big Loader toy nowadays? The plot thickens... - While making this video, I didn't realize that the Thomas Big Loader Set was basically dead. I thought it was just hard to find, but after doing some digging, there doesn't appear to be a legitimate place to buy the newest version from 2018. That sucks. 😔
I remember when you had this set up at Entertrainment Junction. I was excited I could attend since I was coming home from vacation and the show was even held on the day I was coming home. I was taking photos and then I heard you speaking to someone else and I thought “Heh, this bloke sounds like Thomas Wooden Railway.” And then I remembered YOU were the one I heard about the show from on Instagram. I’m sad to hear (in case anyone else hasn’t heard) that Entertrainment Junction is shutting down in January. However, it was very nice meeting you.
The 2000's Tomy Thomas era was peak. I have a thomas toy from that era which is the Steam and Sounds RC Thomas. It was what I, as a child, wanted as a thomas toy. You had the remote control to move thomas forward, he could turn back trough a 180 turn and if you put water in the right of his boiler, he could release steam. He also played the instrumental roll-call. I loved this toy TO DEATH!!! I also remember thinking "what if they made more characters like this one?" like James, Percy, and the rest of the steam-team. I even thought of how they would encorporate the tender for James or the other tender engines, which was something similar to the tender powered trackmaster engines.
When I lived at my Grandmas house I had a peace of the seat specifically and to summarize I only had Thomas and that was the only part of the set I had idk where it is now but it’s most likely long gone
My earliest memories of TH-cam are watching Big Loader videos. I have always wanted one of my own but have never seen one in person. Besides color and perhaps some minor changes in the parts over the years, there is a pretty big difference I have learned about only recently. The "chute" where Terence dumps the balls into Thomas was changed from the original. The original, construction themed, version has a dump truck be in Thomas's place that has a larger bed, as compared to Thomas, and the chute would point to the center of the shell. If Thomas were to be used instead, the balls would pour all over his cab. Also, there are 3 sets/layouts in the line that I know of: the original Big Loader here, Big Big Loader that has an elevator and second level, and Post Office Loader that has Harold the helicopter and I'm pretty sure has no generic, not-Thomas version.
Seeing TWR trying to put out one fire while ten more were started as the set turned into chaos around 20:10 was the chuckle I needed after a stressful month!
I grew up with the big loader in this video and bought the rerelease a few years ago. The set with the horrid lorry is called the big big loader which also included cranky with a ball spiral and train elevator
I vaguely remember having this set, but I say vaguely as it's been a long time, and I don't know for the life of me what happened to it. Nevertheless, it's a quite an interesting development in terms of Tomy, and despite the problems it has, it's quite entertaining.
BUST MY BUFFERS… I received that set from Santa when I was just a small tyke… and as many others will comment, there are two additional sets and although these are hard to find, I’m going to get all three and relive that childhood memory
When I was younger, I always wanted a big loader set for myself. But my parents didn’t had the money to get it, and also said that I had too many toys and no room to put it in my room.
Oh My God, my cousin and I both had this. We both watched the show a lot when we were kids, me probably more than him. I think this product was just a toy to please the pre-school kids who loved the characters but whose parents just wanted something simple to amuse them. I don't think I played it with that much because of how limited the functionality is. Sure, it works, but there's just so much you can do with it, like setting up dominoes just to knock them over 10 seconds later... So yeah, it's fine, if the kids love Thomas and Percy, it does the job, but if they need more than a short 30 minute distraction, this isn't the toy for them. It's cheap, it's plasticky, like you said, Terence's shovel can get stuck, and with the specific track available, there's very little room for variety or originality like there was with ERTL or the Wooden Railway brand...
@@MVF_2024- Actually Tomy did make a legit Lorry in a version of the set known as the 'Big, big Loader Set'. I know it came with Thomas, Cranky, and Lorry.
If my theory is correct, there was also a knock off version of the Thomas big loader and LeoKimvideo did a review on that set and compared side by side. ¿ am i correct about it ?

@@yoshidinosaur3070ME TOO
@thomaswoodenrailway I belive it was still for sale in 2021 as there is a new box art
are you going to continue the railway series please
I had this many many years ago,
It was simple and fun, and that was all I needed back then.
There are 2 different Thomas Big Loader sets. One has Terrence and the other has one of the Horrid Lorries. Each one has a different track layout
The one set with the Lorry also has Cranky. Just so you know, Cranky is in that set with the Lorry just for display to carry the marbles.
There is also one that's just like this except it's mail instead of coal
It had a marble spiral too, the one with Cranky and the Lorry set.
@@maxstroberger5404 that one has Harold if i remember correctly

Glad you remember it from EnterTRAINment Junction! It was really fun having it set up that day and watching people walk up and get mesmerized.
Tony’s greatest playset which lasted the test of time. I used to have it years ago!
