Elliott loved The Beatles! His catalog is full of harmonically complex songs. He truly was one of a kind. So great seeing you play through this track Tomo!
"If everything is correct, then everyone is the same. But if you can't do it, then you create something else; that's why you are so unique" That was such a beautiful and wise way to put it. Not everything has to be perfectly done, not all your artistic creations have to follow the rules and theory by the book, if you do something different or not "correct" by the standards of what everyone thinks is normal, that doesn't mean it's wrong. It's unique. It's because you did it your way. Thank you so much for this, Mr. Fujita!
Thanks so much for sharing! I hate to be "Perfect" or "Correct" We are humans so a little mistakes & wrong notes are more special! This way I don't need to have any pride! More fun! Thank you so much!
I’m a huge fan of Elliott’s music. It was nice to see somebody approach this song in standard tuning. It helped me hear his music differently. Thank you.
Thanks again for sharing with us that wonderful song and your in sights about it Tomo, wow such a heart felt song with all those nice chord changes, very easy to listen to and you explained it so well, love the guitar you were playing sounds really nice, Thanks again, Cheers!
it was awesome to see his music analyzed in a way that doesn’t get too focused on playing it exactly the way he did. there is definitely value in learning how to play complex parts the way that they were originally played, but I’ve been trying to be better about learning what is actually happening instead of just how to make my fingers play the music
Loved hearing your thoughts on this song, one of my favorites. Very beatlesque. I was curious though, did you listen to this later a bit more in depth? Because if your video is to acknowledge the creative songwriting skills and chord choices of es I think it's only fair to demonstrate each correct chord used in this. The first measure where he goes from the C to the D chord is different in the following measure, he goes from the C to the F, and when going back to G from F he slides up a half step to strum F# once. For the chorus it's C - Am - Fm - Dm - Fm - G Thanks for sharing your thoughts and talent brother!❤
Thank you! One of my favorite artists. Memory lane is really fun too :) elliott smith often played bass notes with his thumb while strumming with his fingers to make a full sound (almost like travis picking but not quite). He also chewed his nails, so he gets less attack on the strings.
I loved this video! I just came across your channel thanks to a video I saw recently by @MartyMusic one of my fave online teachers. I’ve spent the past weekend scouring through your videos. I love your approach. I really appreciate that you tell viewers to write stuff down in a notebook. And I was totally affirmed when I saw you playing an Orangewood guitar in this video. I have one and I encouraged my son to get one. I’ve only been playing for the past five years and I feel like I’ve come across your channel at just the right time in my guitar learning journey. Keep being awesome.
So happy to hear that! Thank you so much! I use my little note book! You just need a pen and paper! So you keep your records! I love Orangewood guitars! So good! Great setup!
Hey Tomo I'm not sure if you're familiar with Vince Guaraldi but he was a GREAT American jazz composer and he wrote all the vintage Charlie Brown music including the iconic Peanuts theme. He also wrote this GREAT piece called The Great Pumpkin Waltz and it's AMAZING and I bet you AND your audience would love it. I'd love to see you break that down and it's in perfect time for Halloween!
thanks, i’m working on this song “Ballod of Bog Nothing) it’s a real challenge for me at my level, but you are huge help . I’m new to the number system and it makes so much sense, it’s cool that you can know the major and minor chords in a progression just from its place in the scale. When you are a beginner they just tell you whole step whole step half step whole step whole step whole step whole step half step , there is a lot more information there than i knew and you add simplicity to it with your approach , I know you you have some very notable students and i’m happy to learn from you, even though im in no way worthy! thanks a bunch !
Thank you for sharing! Good job! Please watch my new video tomorrow 9am EST! Music Theory on One String Approach! You're very welcome! Thank you so much! @@roylarkey9904

A lot of elliott's songs are in open tuning, making it a little easier to nail melody and chords at the same time! great song
Thank you for sharing! So great!
Sounds good, Tomo San!
All my songs are about nothing! In the middle of the night, everything I play sounds good in the middle of the night.
Thank you for sharing! Thank you!

Elliott played this in an altered ‘C’ based tuning, not standard. E string drops to C, A string drops to G, B goes down to G.
Thank you for sharing!
You gotta love Elliott!
Yes!
4:06 thats just C with a G on the bass from what i see, a C second inversion
Thank you for sharing!

Elliot used open c tuning for this song!
Thank you for sharing! Thank you!
Great song. Alameda is probably my favorite from either/or but the whole album is just littered with amazing melodies and solo guitar work.
Yes! So awesome!
