Something I just realized: Reznov's entire character revolves around ensuring the survival and success of the player characters (Dimitri and Mason), and allowing them to cheat death. But in the only mission in the entire series where Viktor Reznov is playable, you cannot save your own character (Dimitri).

dimitri was probably a scout ahead of the main red army, but captured. what’s interesting is the german soldier told him “no! you should’ve stayed dead” implying that dimitri should’ve pretended to be dead. subliminally telling the german-speaking players about the previous mission and how they played possum to survive but not this time because the tide has turned. side note: daletski and his squad was dimitri’s original teammates, like sgt foley and cpl dunn to pvt ramirez. So using them as bait just to kill amsel seems cold in Chernov’s eyes.
Dmitry Petrenko is by far my favourite character in the CoD series. He is forgotten and unappreciated by many but for me he is kind of an icon. I like him so much that I adopted his name as a name of mine. I like him so much and he deserved more love. Such a tragic and awesome character.
I swear man, as a kid he was my favorite and still is. I was 4 when I started playing WaW, I'm now 19. He was my favorite since you played as him throughout the best missions. Absolute legend, going down in a terrible way. Best tragic tale of a good soldier.
As Reznov put it, Stalin didn’t have a need for heroes anymore when the Soviets went on the offensive. Even when a soldier shot and killed a high ranking officer he didn’t receive any recognition, but that might just be only reznov witnessed it. Hundreds of soldiers like Dimitri probably existed but their names will never be known
And before you get to Steiner as Reznov, Dimitri at one point asks: "After this mission, do you think we will go home?" on which Reznov replies with: "I hope so Dimitri. I hope so."

When Reznov recalls the tragic death of Dmitri, to be honest, I shed tears for Dmitri as he was a hero in COD:WAW and when I saw the gameplay which he died in the Artic base (I Think) by own country's men hands (that General Reznov was after), very sad indeed
It was a spur of the moment decision, Dragovich was curious about the weapon so they tested it on who they had at hand. They do not value their own men, Steiner kills his own bodyguard in that mission too. They slaughtered all the nazis so no prisoners. They are near the North Pole if I remember correctly so too remote for either side to have prisoners with them
This was when cod still had balls to portray war like it really is. Unlike nowadays with snoop dog and Niki manage running around or ridiculous gun skins. COD has lost its balls long ago. This game will always be a classic, I wish they could remake it but they definitely can’t do it justice due to all the greed that exists within that company and how everything has to be political, plus they’d probably ruin it by adding in all that other nonsense or putting another female in the game somehow and ruin the narrative and historical context of those battles. I miss how good we used to have it with these older games. The 360 and ps3 generation was so awesome in its prime

I love so much how you are putting all the real world photos and footage in with the game footage and reminding people that these were all real places and battles. I know it would be a lot of work but if you did some 30+ minute deep-dive documentary one day it would be epic!

WAW and Black ops 1 was the most heartfelt and heroic game i ever have played seeing reznov best friend die like an animal was very upsetting but at least OG games like that have identities not like these newer call of duty games dont 😉😋
