    I just accepted my first project engineering internship, and this video cemented the fact that this is exactly what I want to do with my life! Since I've never been on a construction site before, this walk through of the site you're working on was incredibly informative. I really enjoyed this video, seeing what I'm learning in the classroom in the real world gives me confidence and excitement going into next summer! Keep the videos coming!!

    Currently going through a career crisis. I'm doing architecture with a civil engineering double major . Never really had a passion for the construction field but parents firmly wanted me to do it. I decided to watch videos of how it really is in real life ( because the college experience so far is really annoying ) and it put my mind at ease. It is quite badass haha. Brilliant ! Thank you so much ! We need more videos !!

    My father's profession. He's a really committed, hardworking man that has been in the field for 18+ years. I have immense respect for everyone in the construction field, cause this is a physically demanding job, regardless of what role you might be doing. Be it a structural engineer or a project manager, you need to be fully involved to see a progress. So thanks for the video and good luck.

    It scares me a little bit to think how much there is to learn outside school, and there is so much diversity of jobs in civil engineering that can be overwhelming if you don't plan ahead what sort of job you want and what sector you like the most. This video was helpful as one of the most important things to check when deciding this, is to think about what a typical day will be like. Thumbs up.

    This is just too good to be true .... Its a neck break job in a place like India .... From my personal experience people will call u in the middle of the night while u r sound asleep and u will get only 1 meal per day or in some conditions even worse no meal ( if project is somewhere in the interior) ... In my case I used to buy food at night and eat it hot but will just save enough for next morning(cold food) ... Different experience for me u have lot of facilities bro I had to struggle a lot no sleep , no food .... Just insane work in some remote inaccessible place or industrial area with nothing around

      One thing I have learned in my Career is that "People Like to do What they are Good at" and you only get good at being an Engineer/Site Super/PM by working hard at learning. Become the best at your area of interest, the more you know & are able to do the more opportunities you have. Choose to make it your goal to become better than everyone else, don't become arrogant or think of yourself as better than others but also know what needs to be done and have it done that way unless someone else has a better idea (everyone has a better idea, you need to sift thru them & make that determination) , learn to laugh at yourself & with others. Also 12 hour days are normal.

    Great Video! I'm a Project Engineer for a Top 20 GC and this video was pretty spot on! Totally related to getting phone calls while on and off the site telling me to either go back out to the field or back to the office! haha

    Office and facilities look good. Unfortunately in India Civil Engineer profession is most undervalued. Any fresher and even experienced gets as much low as it's tough them to manage daily life expenses. It's really nice to see your office.🙂

    @Kienen Koga, could you do a video explaining about the differences and similarities between civil engineering and construction management?
    I plan to go to school some time soon for either one of those degrees. I really like this area. I couldn’t find or get specific information out there about the difference in between these two careers though.
    Thanks!

    Dear Kienen,
    I am crying and watching your video at the same time. \(ToT)/
    I am currently going to school right now for Construction Management & plan to earn a Master's Degree in Civil Engineering (emphasis in Construction Management) within 3 years. I don't want this to be my future till I retired. I guess...after I get my degree and collect a few years of experience under my belt, I should start getting into the "design side" such as becoming a Traffic Engineer who designs highway width 🛣 so I can have a work-life balance by just working 40 hours per week.
    Working for the general contractor and focus on the "building" side of projects is just too stressful. I will rather be the designer!!!

    • @KienenKoga
      @KienenKoga  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      appreciate your honesty Chifung, and thats completely fine! Your self awareness is so important and that's why I make these videos too to try to be as transparent as possible about my experience in the industry. But also sometimes there is something to be said about being excited and busy for 60 hours a week, and bored out of your mind at another job for 40 hours a week haha. We all have long careers in front of us, we have ample time to gain experience and pivot as needed.

      @KienenKoga  4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      haha yup! Totally agree, it gets tough if you have a family, that's why I try to work more now when I don't have those obligations. But the industry honestly calls for a lot of hours which is why a lot of people in the industry tend to struggle with their relationships.

    Is it worth it to master in construction management. Almost getting done with my degree

    • @blakeb4583
      @blakeb4583 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No it's not. It's only worth it if you don't already have your undergrad in Construction/Building Science, or Management, Architecture, or Engineering. A master's program in CM is kind of worthless if you have any of the above degrees and is really meant as a career change tool; i.e. someone going from accounting to construction management. I'm a Project Engineer for a top 20 GC and I work on billions of dollars of projects all across the country and have yet to meet anyone I work with who has anything but their B.S. in CM, Construction/Building Science, Engineering, or Architecture. Hope this helps!

    What do you do in the office? More specifically, what do you do on the computer? And, is there anyone else in the office that you work with?

    • @KienenKoga
      @KienenKoga  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      on the computer is probably reading drawings, marking up questions on them, answering emails, going through the model and identifying areas of concern that are harder to see on the 2D drawings, things like that. As you move up you'll be doing more pricing and cost things on the computer. And yes I have a large team with over a dozen other people, but sometimes it may just be a couple people depending on the size of the project.
