Maybe I'm a bit vulnerable today, but watching a mass of folks reveling in the creation of something beautiful is making me a bit teary. Good teary though. My local pub here in rural Australia has its open stage today. I couldn't be assed to go, it's the first 'cold'* day of autumn here, the stage is out back in an unheated beer garden, and I haven't been practising. But you know what? This inspired me. It doesn't matter if it takes me three tries to get the first loop loaded; I'm not a professional and no one is paying after all. But I know for a god damned fact that with the way I'm feeling will come out in the performance. Thanks Apartment Sessions. You made the world a little more musical today. *It's +11C out, I'm bloody Canadian immigrant. Hell, I didn't put on long pants until -3 back in the old country. This place is making me so weak that I'm sure the wolves would cull me the second I stepped off the plane should I ever go back.
TheLongDark Ha! Only in the sense of dealing with the cold. I’ve now dealt with three floods, three venomous snakes, uncounted Redbacks, and the Black Saturday bushfire. Oh, and a methed-up neighbour who wanted to cut my throat because he thought I stoled his goat. It’s so peaceful here in the country... 😀
Not that anyone cares, but it went okay. Took five tries to load that damn first loop and I had a bum cable in my rig. Not the end of the world because I run some of my effects in parallel. I still had sound, just not what I expected. Still, there were moments where I felt that connection, the one where the emotions the piece is intended to convey is being stirred in in me too. I love that. Here’s hoping the audience felt something too.
I just finished my exams, I may have failed two courses, but I sat down, watched this video, got really happy and everything just got out. I'm here, sitting on bed, bawling my eyes out and enjoying life
I’ve failed nearly every college class I took and barely passed with average grades in school, just so long as you’re doing your best and finding your way it’s alright
Okay..i have issues getting 5 people in the same room...you managed 89 throughout 3 apartments ...and a completed production.. That is impressive to say the least.
How is this not exploding on the internet!?? This is phenomenal! I would have LOVED to take part in this, Imagine what it sounded like actually being there
I’d imagine heaven would be something like this bliss on a celestial level between other beings harmonizing together. Without the the taint of pain sadness’s and misery we lie under here on earth. Hoping if we’re lucky to be apart of something as beautiful as this.
While I wished they could have done the coda section with the same feeling of release as the original recording, this is still an amazing arrangement. Kudos to all involved.
Brilliant! Really moving + the logistics of doing this in a packed-to-gills-home, yet well-executed phenomenal video-audio, is astounding. The Adam Neely link was key to me discovering this ~ BASS from the upper bunk - Yes!!
That was goddamn beautiful. I thought it was just an apartment jam sesh and then the second half following the harp solo ... dude, I fucking cried like a little bitch. Well done. It's so nice I'm gonna hear the same song twice. To be fair, this song almost always jerks them tears on me, but that second half was so unexpected. Edit: just finished second listen. If aliens arrive and ask me to show them why they shouldn't just eliminate all life on Earth, imma show them this video.
Nah, you just have to have a good ear and a good vision for them. It'll take time but it's definitely achievable. Think about how orchestras are recorded, it's nearly the same in this situation. Biggest issues will be phase relationships and tuning. Otherwise it'll just be setting up a mix of the guitars within the general mix. Definitely worth the wait.
Still are going to mostly be looking at phasing being the majority of the problem even including mic bleed. For instance, singers are placed in front of mic A, another row of singers placed in front of mic B. There's a 2.5:1 ratio of distance between the mics and singers on A bleed into B. The bleed itself isn't the problem, it's the phase issues with the voices in A and B. I've recorded amps and drums at the same time and in the same room but the bleed didn't harm the mix at all because of the proximity of the microphones to the instruments and the overall SPL the close mics were obtaining. While solo'd the bleed is annoying but in the mix as a whole it added musicality and character to the song that I don't think would have been achieved with tight isolation. In all honesty, the room tone is going to impact the mix more so than general mic bleed as well.
They squeezed just a few more instruments into their place than I have in my Skoolie home. Would love to be a part of something so audibly, heartwarmingly fabulous.

1:01 Is it just me or are Chris Celiz and Gene from the Beatbox House on the couch? EDIT: Confirmation given literally 20 seconds later. That's them. They're so sick! You can (just barely) hear them at 3:41.
These guys must have just the chillest landlord
Jake Schubert more like their landlord has the best tenants
more like the chillest neighbors
never more I complain about the neighbor fucking out loud
The one good landlord
Right. ?!
Almost as many people as are in the actual band.
The best comment I have seen in a while.
😂🤣😂

hell yeah!
Dude it's not often I hear the phrases "rural Australia" and "making me weak" together.
Signed, an Australian.

Doesn't matter, it's a start to something huge!
Truly stunning!
Ben Levin yes, just like your videos!
Seriously! Especially after watching Adam Neely's video of how hard it was to make this happen, I am very impressed.
69th like
Fancy seeing you here Mr. Levin.
You should totes be in one of these!
2:30 play this sexy fill.
The best one was the one he showed in his video, at 4:41
Not as good as the lick tho
Adam Neely approves the Trumpet solo :D
that was a sax

This song has the ability to indirectly Tell me everything is gonna be alright No matter how shitty my day has been
truth :)
Impressive!! The building must have been rock'in!
Imagine walking by and hearing this outside on the sidewalks
That would be magical.
I just finished my exams, I may have failed two courses, but I sat down, watched this video, got really happy and everything just got out. I'm here, sitting on bed, bawling my eyes out and enjoying life
Hope you’re doing alright man
you sir are a great man, hope 2021 has been fine
Hope it all worked out! In a similar position myself at the moment so I get the struggle
I’ve failed nearly every college class I took and barely passed with average grades in school, just so long as you’re doing your best and finding your way it’s alright
Guys, he's on the bed again
jesus, why can't I stop laughing at this) it's been a day ffs
Spot the neely...
Yeah I am sorry. You guys are all great!
cpt nordbart 2:33
Personally I think it’s the greatest cover of any song of all time!
Sounds HUGE, this is the kind of sound I came to this channel for!
P.S. ADAM!!!!!!!!!!
Okay..i have issues getting 5 people in the same room...you managed 89 throughout 3 apartments ...and a completed production..
That is impressive to say the least.
Arcade Fire will get them all up on the stage for the next tour.
I think AF are going in a different direction
Haha ... they barely have enough room, right now, for Preservation Hall. They'd need 10 stages for this ensemble. Would be cool af, tho. :-)
+ matilda Not with the trouble the singer is accused with lol..........
I also feel like Sufjan Stevens would totally do this with you guys if you asked.
The part from around 4:25 sounded exactly like Sufjan Stevens to me!
iAMkinetic holy shit he had to be an inspiration for that part.
Yes yes yes-!!!
I thought the same thing!
Omg that trumpet and sax solo 😍
It's actually a tenor sax folled by an alto sax.
The fact that these videos don't have more views is criminal
1:29 That sweet T H I C C Lydian subdominant chord...
That was really unexpected (for me) and hauntingly beautiful
How is this not exploding on the internet!?? This is phenomenal! I would have LOVED to take part in this, Imagine what it sounded like actually being there
This seems so messy and I love it
Strong, powerful and beautiful!! "We're just a million little gods causin' rain storms, turnin' every good thing to
Rust" - Congratulations!
Imagine knowing this many arcade fire fans. Amazing
To see the world, things dangerous to come to, to see behind walls, draw closer, to find each other, and to feel. That is the purpose of life.
1:25 I wonder how many session bodhrán players there are in New York
Makes me feel so much less alone in the world.
Would be crazy to see this with a 360 degree camera
Ghi102 yeah but they're in a bunch of different rooms
I’d imagine heaven would be something like this bliss on a celestial level between other beings harmonizing together. Without the the taint of pain sadness’s and misery we lie under here on earth. Hoping if we’re lucky to be apart of something as beautiful as this.
This is making me so nostalgic for the pre-covid past
While I wished they could have done the coda section with the same feeling of release as the original recording, this is still an amazing arrangement. Kudos to all involved.
Although there are a million musicians in NYC, they could have found a stronger lead singer.
The world would be in such a better state if this was just another Thursday afternoon, in any neighborhood, in any town, in any country.
Holly fuck, this sounds huge
3:08 Kylo Ren is darkforcing the shit out of that sax

So beautiful. I already loved Wake Up and your comment has me excited for the end of the video! 3:58
How the hell does this not have hundreds of millions of views? Fantastic! 🎉❤🎉❤
I would lose my mind getting to mix this huge of a session. It would be countless 8 hour days put in to every aspect possible. God that looks fun.
I fell in love with voice of of the violin girl on 1.37
Five years later and this still makes me tear up… 😢
I NEVER seen ANYTHING LIKE THIS!!!❤
4 days to see Arcade Fire play in Madrid. Lucky me...
One of the best songs from my favourite album and it was their DEBUT. Arcade Fire are as good as it gets and these guys give it a good go. Love it!
It's so amazing to see. The result IMHO is not important. The whole projekt needs such a lot of different skills to fly.
4:00 on to the end is awesome
Arrepiei do início ao fim! Melhor cover do mundo.
Is it just me, or is the mix a little weird at some points?? It is a great arrangement, I just feel like the mix misses it at some points?
It does, I doubt this is the final version though.
yeah but I think for example to do every single guitar justice you gotta be a magician

sounds kinda low-fi and it's messing with the treble resolution, but there is certainly some weird volume levels going on.
I feel that I have found the BEST music Channel in the world
They squeezed just a few more instruments into their place than I have in my Skoolie home. Would love to be a part of something so audibly, heartwarmingly fabulous.
i cant explain how grateful i am that this exists! love you guys for making this! for me its THE BEST rendition of Wake up to ever exist!
I knew I recognised Pia Salvia here! Known her since The Voice France and glad to see her participating in this great project
I like this soooo much more than the original. This is amazing and really well orchestrated
This gives me the inspiration to create and commune with like-minded people. I'm about to go hug someone right now.
This song was absolutely meant to be played like this
i miss this
This made me cry.
damn.
I just watched something amazing happen. Thank you guys. This deserves more views for sure!

Oh là là , quel beau travail 🌋big work🌡️☀️🌠🌌🌍🌎🌏🌟 vraiment / really 🦋 really!!!!
Their take on the bridge reminds me of Anathallo.
Absolutely awesome! Preservation Hall got some competition. Wonder if the real Arcade Fire has seen this, yet?
Just a few overdubs to fill it out and it will be fine
Shit like this is why I love music.
Looooovvveeeiiiittt!!!
This is hands down the most epic cover of any song ever in history
Thank you.
This is all insane
This is really cool!!!
This channel embodies everything I love about music and why I learned to play/sing.
Sufjan edition at the end, so fantastic, it might make me cry.
1:01 Is it just me or are Chris Celiz and Gene from the Beatbox House on the couch?

Oh my god I’m crying, this is beautiful! Thank you for this
i think that record can not truly transmit the epicness of this session =)
It's incredible to see that this collaboration exists! That city block must have been rockin'.
Holy f*ck, seriously, this energy is surreal
Una orquesta es esto para mi, los amo aHHHHH
💜💜💜💜💜💜
Oh god. The ending. I cried. Wow, just so beautiful.
Absolute madness. How many lines were recorded in this. Hats off to the engineer(s)
So relevant now
This is one of the most beautiful things ive ever seen
this absolutely kicks ass
when you got a lot of talented people showed up in your band auditions, so you decide to take them all in.
This was epic. It's a contestant for the song rendition that will save the world.
Yay, Emerson!
The sax solo at 3:09 was really cool
3:35 Didn't expect to see a Paramore tee in this video :D
lol that's me! always repping my favorite band :-)
Oh how I wish to be there
Soooo crazy!!!
Were you there? I think that at 1:20 you're sitting on the bed
don't care if this isn't the best mixing or whatever. this is fucking rad. its just good fun
One of my favs from apartment sessions
Right on my birthday !
This is one of those songs I can listen to whenever I’m having a bad day and immediately bleaches all that shit away
So help me brings tears of joy and endless admiration
Amazing. Fun. Beautiful. Human.
Very good! Good end to my evening
Total madness! Phil Spector will be proud
In the end it turned into something sufjan stevens would write. Amazing!
Wow! Wow! Wow! That was amazing!!!
