    Wonderful thoughts. As a director I've simply swapped 'music' for 'film' and it all sounds incredibly familiar and wise. Thanks Christian!

    Thanks for this one Christian. What you're saying regarding exclusive deals really chimes with me and where I'm at. The video's are brilliant by the way, loving the travel montages!

    This was incredibly formative. Scared the crap out of me, but also gave promise. Thanks for the kind info!

      Hello Christian, I live in Panama, I have a Kid and cannot relocate, is there a way to get remote work on music composition or sound designing? on anything, I used to work on Advertising until 5 years ago, now it is useles in my country and I have done the music for 1 local featured film but that was last year and work has been so nonexistent that I am desperate at this point, cannot find anything, I am doing 0 cents right now, dont ask me how am I paying for my living please, I am 95% close to dump my 20+ years on music composing to the trashcan because I dont know anymore what the hell to do with this thing anymore, no body is hiring me since like 3 years with the exception of the shitty film that paid me cents and did not even had my name on the fkng poster, also a couple of small gigs that where so small that I don't even remember what they where anymore. Any advice would be appreciated.

    Great information - hopefully I'll get to the point of being able to take this advice into action. The mention of "your brand" is super important for folks to understand, regardless of your industry.
    These industry vlogs would make a great podcast. They're very digestible in that format. Just rip the audio out.
    Unrelated: does your camera have a focus lock? Some of the stationary shots are always changing focus.

    Great content! My I ask What do you use for recording video and audio?

  • @JoshKemp

    Scotland is gorgeous! Though the midges are less so...
    Would you recommend writing to contribute to publishing libraries as a beginner media composer, learning the ropes and all that (are these the cocks you speak of?).
    Also would you recommend working under a composer to learn the ropes? (easier said than done but this would be my preferred method)

    Christian, what are the fundamental differences between an agent and a manager? Also, taking to heart what you've talked about in this video (#38) about being able to further one's career without an agent, would it behoove me, as a fledgling songwriter, to look at finding a manager, instead?

    • @TheCrowHillCo
      @TheCrowHillCo  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well an agent sees both the program makers and film producers and their composers as clients where as manager sees you as their client solely. Because of this they have only one stream of income which is you. I think the points of entry are the same again get a name for yourself or a story an angle that your future manager can hang off.

    Christian could you divulge your opinions on music college? I'm thinking of applying to RCM for Composition for Screen but I can't quite justify £39,000 if that money would be better spent on other things. Would love to hear your thoughts. Cheers!

      I'm in the same boat, Dan. Considering applying to the same course this year, and just don't know a) where I would find the funds, or b) whether it's entirely worth the money spent. It's a tricky one.

    • @R1dgeR1der
      @R1dgeR1der 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ben Uzzell I agree! To be honest funding is the main thing for me at the moment, besides getting in first haha. It would be horrible to be accepted, only for you to turn it down because you can't afford it

  • @RESPARD0
    @RESPARD0 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    As a young composer, at what point should you go look for an agent?
    Would it be detrimental to start asking around when you are woefully under qualified (i.e.lacking in big name credits)?

    Little production suggestion - turn off autofocus for certain shots. It was very disconcerting to have the background constantly changing in focus.

    • @TheCrowHillCo
      @TheCrowHillCo  7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      yeah, if I had a film crew I would, but I'm a point and shoot man... usually don't have anything moving in background, fucking fishermen
