Making coffee is one of my Ikigai. I hand grind my beans (the aroma is wonderful) and use a pour over method. It is very hands on and makes for a far more satisfying cup of coffee than if it was just brewed in a machine and taken as a beverage of convenience.

I have been working lately on how to increase my mood and noticed that tracking your mood several times a day is also a good way to notice what triggers bad moods or good moods. For example one of my Ikigai is Yoga I practice daily, it makes me feel so good that if I happen to miss a day I feel bad about it and Try to catch on the next days. Blessings.

Any day with a new video of Samurai Matcha is a good day. Thank you for your videos. My house looks so tidy and my toilet is very clean now! It has created a positive impact that goes beyond my own house and now I help other people and I cheer them up too. Also, my back does not hurt since I started sleeping on a futon and sitting on the floor so we can say that Japanese culture helps me be healthier and to stay fit. Japanese people address me as Natto-san, because I am Nat. I wonder how my sensei can stay serious without laughing. My name in Spain also sounds like "cream". So I have decided to add a middle name that does not sound like food. Teal, ティール, which means 鴨の羽色 (kamo no ha-iro), duck's feather colour. If I go to Japan people can call me ティール or maybe Natsu, since I was born in the summer. Aki-san, your English seems to have gotten even better. I listened to an audiobook that went into ikigai and it talked about the long life of the residents of a specific part of Okinawa. I was very envious when I heard about their senior community, because we don't have anything like that for people here in the U.S. They had a senior center in their town and it had scheduled activities most (or all) days, plus people just gathered there to talk or play games--whatever they wanted to do. And every month, they did a civic works project, like picking up trash, or planting flowers in common areas, or doing maintenance on the public parks and playgrounds. Old people lose the will to live when they no longer feel like they have a purpose, and/or they feel alone. That's why I envied the people in that village their very active senior community. It's very depressing to be an old person here. One of the people they interviewed was a man who was, if I remember correctly, in his 90's. His ikigai was to get up every morning and stand in his front garden and wave to the schoolchildren on their way to school and encourage them to do their best. And I think he did the same when they were coming home, telling them they did a good job. He knew all of them by name and he felt that they relied on him to get their day started right, so that motivated him to get up every morning and keep going. It did wonders for his health and I imagine everyone loved feeling like they had an extra grandpa watching out for them.

Here in New Jersey, it is common for us to say hi when passing people while walking in neighborhoods. I do it constantly and it is a nice thing to greet one another. Some of the things on this list I know you have mentioned several times, but it is always good to be reminded. I like that you want to compliment yourself in some way when you look in the mirror.

Thanks for your video. I love it. I want to share a habit that my 10 years old son has this Summer holidays. Everyday when he wakes up, over 8.00 am, he dress himself quickly and run to the park where is a spot in the trees, and there he feeds the ravens (with foods for birds, not any food) and being a little with them. He does this before another thing like breakfast. He is trying to do it in the same spot at the same time. With this habit he is dressed and in the forest very soon in the morning everyday, so its good.
Great video. Number 8 and 10 - I start my morning walk when Sun isn't up yet and sleep with my windows open. It usually comes up when I'm 1/2 done. LOL

I do have a question though, through your own struggles and challenges in life, what was the deciding factor that caused you to make a change towards being such a positive light in this world? I often have viewed life from a negative perspective, it robs me of much joy and being present. It is like a habit that is ingrained into my being. I have lived more in my mind than in reality. I think being present is my greatest struggle. I have often seen myself like “Guts” from the anime Berserk. So while I perform well in all that I do, I still feel alone.
