    Worked as a cop in a small town. Best catch was a young man, 18ish ,went mudding across a mans planted field. followed the mud trail to where he was staying. He got a notice to appear in court and the farmer got compensation for the damage to his crop. Young man stayed out of fields with his pick up truck and I got to laugh seeing you crossing your field saying don't tell dad. lol

    The bale was just a necessary evil. Like my old boss used to say it's never comfortable doing construction while your living in the space but you get it done save some $$ and say "Man I'm glad that's done!!!" When it's done!

    I’ve never milked cows in a milking bale but I would expect that it would be harder and more time consuming than milking in your permanent parlor. We were in the dairy business until 1976 or 1977 and we only milked two cows to a side. We were milking about 125 cows and it took us about 9 hours a day along with cleanup. I started milking by myself when I was 13 years old. We split the herd into thirds then. My dad always took the early shift, then me or my brother took over and the other would finish up.

      Wonder why it's called a Bale?

    • @nyotauhura7412
      @nyotauhura7412 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@PAYNEKILLER.. The first "milking bail" invented by Arthur Hosier in 1922. He was a farmer in North Wiltshire (near Marlborough) that had high chalk pasturage and made a mobile 6 cow milking parlour on wheels because it was easier to bring the milking parlour up to the cows than bring the cows down to the barn/farmstead. "bail" is a type of bullock or ox cart. So a farmer named Arthur put his milking gear on an oxcart and hauled it up to his cow pasture.

    Hi Tom, as always a great Video and I'm sure the Ginger Warrior is going to have a word or two😁😁😁😁
    However if I had a concern it would be with that Draw Bar hanging out the back of the wagon, especially as no obvious warning signs. That's an accident waiting to happen. You need to have a word with Vic and James!

    • @richardg9791
      @richardg9791 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My thoughts too. Recently watched a short prog on tv about police stopping all the large loads in their area and 100% were taken off the road for non compliance. Just paint the bar with high vis colour and add a simple guard.

    • @feedguygaming
      @feedguygaming ปีที่แล้ว

      or maybe people need to just pay attention to the road and whats in front of them when driving why does everything need a sign or label for people? a little darwinism would help the world alot. Also there was black and yellow caution tape on the end of it so it was clearly marked

    Lol. We used to milk 180 cows with 11 on one side, and that was it, for 17 years, as my father, in his wisdom pulled one side out to renovate and never finished it! One thing I would suggest would have been to allow the cows to explore the bale for a few days before you finished up milking in the old shed just to get them used to walking in a space they'd never been in before.

  • @GraeMatterz
    @GraeMatterz ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You previously noted that you could see the difference in hoof health since using the bale (white line increases, etc). Was that just because of the right-hand turn they had to make getting into it or was part of that because of the standing around time and if the latter, would that have been at least partially remedied with a second bale?

    • @TomPembertonFarmLife
      @TomPembertonFarmLife  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don’t think so. It’s the way I had the bale and how the cows had to turn in to it. I think if I was quicker and had the parlour finished earlier 🤦‍♂️

    I was just wondering what happened to your indoor parlor. Now I know now you’ve got so much room you don’t know what to do with. Oh, I’m sure he’ll find something for that space. But I can see you could not of handled it with anything less all that milking that you had to do in the hours that were spent in the the Bale well, like you said, should I had two. But I’m glad that it’s done and you’re in your new parlor. It’s amazing I should think your milk production is up. Happy kills happy farmer.❤
