      @@beng1767 Yeah I was just thinking that. We hear it so often on TV that I guess it's lost all meaning and people don't realize "Clear!" means to clear the body, that is, to stop touching it lol.
      But it's hard to analyze the logic in a medical trope that foundationally doesn't make any sense. Paddles are for defibrillating a persons heart, or correcting a few other, specific dysrhythmias. Paddles/AEDs can't be used to restart a heart that has stopped from blood loss or brain damage resulting from bodily trauma. I was never trained in Advanced Life Support, but I think in that instance the only things that help are blood transfusions, epinephrine, CPR and Positive Pressure Ventilation (PPV).

    • @NFSHeld
      @NFSHeld 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      You should watch the results ("ROT - Silent Hill") before facepalming too hard. :)
      She's sitting on top of him because the super low camera angle requires her to do that in order to have both his head lying on the ground and her upper body leaning over him in the same shot when filmed "from the ground" at his shoulder. The scene just lasts for maybe one second, and you can't see her lower body. In the scenes where she's shown from the side, she's kneeling next to him.
      Basically they're filming what is supposed to be the same event from multiple angles, and with the actors in different locations to fit everything in the respective frame. This helps to give visual context for the location of the camera, helping the viewers to keep track of what they're seing from where even when rapidly changing camera angles every second, which is more important than keeping the depicted persons in the exact same position over the shots. As long as you don't cut back and forth too often, you won't notice.

    • @MrKzspy
      @MrKzspy 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@NFSHeld Going to be honest, I have no idea how you found this comment. You seemed to have actually put a lot of thought into your response which is pretty cool. I still stand by my point of "medical facepalm :)", however in the context of filmmaking, the action obviously takes precedent over any kind of real world accuracy as you described.

    Ah; this is why you collapse EVERYTHING you can to the most basic forms, ideally the scene should contain only static geometry without any modifiers, and bones that have animation baked into them as keyframes, even if the programs are all identical on all machines. I remember when we had Transformer-alike robot and I decided to put a spring script on some of the parts of the robot so it would jiggle as it moved around (doors were placed as wings on the back), to add some procedural dynamic to the animation... Turned out the script was for a _realtime_ spring sim, and was working horribly wrong on a render farm, where the software just opened Max to render out a single frame - the wings got stuck in the convoluted static positions for the entirety of the shot X) And since GPU rendering wasn't a thing yet back then, it was essentially three days of work wasted. The other time I remember when the skin modifier just _broke_ and refused to work out of blue. Don't remember how that one was fixed, though.

    • @talonfx
      @talonfx 6 ปีที่แล้ว +39

      I actually disagree. When you're as light and lean of a production company as we are, you have to weigh the benefits of "locking something into place" with the flexibility to change things without costing too much time by not doing so. Obviously there are scenarios where collapsing transforms and baking information is necessary or unavoidable... but if you can get away with not doing so it makes working easier and faster.

    • @TheDeveer
      @TheDeveer 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      In many cases however it is not hard to just redo it. This guard rail never moves and never needs to move as it has been placed, as long as he keeps the spline in the scene he can easily add a modifier to constrain them to the path if the converted stack version is wrong in areas. I usually keep turbosmooth modifiers on instead of collapsing so I can easily change the quality whilst test rendering.

    • @lub40951
      @lub40951 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Wren Weichman You yourself said the shot is finished, I can't see why you can't collapse everything and save it as a different scene file that you are going to only use for rendering. This ensures that when you render you don't bump into issues like what you had there. If you want to change something then you still have the file that has all the procedurals in place, just re-collapse and render with new changes.
      The more things you keep procedural, the more chance there is of the program crashing due to bugs in the software. It is not entirely true that keeping everything procedural in order to keep it flexible is necessarily faster to work with as the program has to calculate many many more things on the fly instead of just reading baked information from disk - for small scenes this works great but as your scenes get larger there is a certain point of diminishing returns.

    I know this came out basically forever ago in terms of internet time, but Wren's solution to isolating the guard rail has helped me quite a bit on my last rendering tasks.

    PS > Speaking of Wren, will he ever get to make a Holland-Spidey parody? He would be perfect for the role.

    • @nathantiffen5158

      I think the reason he does it all in one, as he’s addressed in a video, is because he’s normally up for multiple days in a row. So if he had to stay another 15 hours to render out each section he’d get no rest. And ontop of the fact his PC isn’t constantly crashing, seeing as he has 4 GTX 1080’s. Niko said in a video “If you think someone is dumb at a job, especially one they’re professional at, then they are not the dumb ones.”

    I just watched this old episode and actually I wasn't sure if I suddenly wanted to laugh out loud or just start to cry the moment the path deform problem showed up. Because approx 3 days ago I had to convert a Max 2019 scene back to Max 2017, which included some chains animated along a path with... path deform. And till this very moment I always thought, the version in 2019 is actually only a UI rework of the old one... which it isn't. It is a completely reworked modifier (which actually works quite well, cause it places the object relatively to the path much better then the old one) but due to the fact that I never was aware of THE SPACE I always thought the whole thing is backwards compatible. So.. in short: welcome to the club! ;-)
