this really shows why teller not talking is genius. he is so ready to play any role physically including improv. just an extremely well rounded performer.
He has talked about this in interviews (ironically he has an amazing DJ voice!). It started very ealry on as a method to stop hecklers from interrupting him. By not talking, there was just simply nothing for them to interpret. Hecklers would quickly give up once they realized he wouldn't engage with them - because now he didn't have to. But he quickly discovered it also made his routines much better. He learned that if you tell somebody a gimmicked prop is real, they will naturally assume you're lying. Utimately bustsing your own trick before you've started it. But if you can show that the prop is real, the audience will then tell themselves it's real, and you've got them. Or as he put it "the most powerful lies are they ones we tell ourselves."
Alyson being on point as always. There was also something she said once before in a different act when she was doing the post magic interview too that really impressed me. It was not so much sharp wit but instead rather insightful. So she's not just sleepwalking her way through this stuff. She is always fully present and, above all, listening.
Dude, the feeding everyone treats as if they're ALL trained dolphins is absolutely hilarious! I love when magicians put comedy in their acts, because one: I love comedy. Two: it effectively draws attention away from the techniques used in the trick. I don't think of it as comedic magic; I think of it as magical comedy, and I love every second of it!
The bucket was quite important in the trick. When he pulled the treat out for penn, he accidentally pulled out the inner bucket and had to cover it with the blue bucket.
I feel like a lot of acts on Fool Us are either funny or capable of fooling them. Yours is wonderfully both. I’ve never seen magic with a trained dolphin before; brilliant! And handing Teller the $20!
I absolutely LOVE this routine... I won't say trick, that goes without saying, lots of people do great tricks. This is just something so very special, the comedy, the participations (with added treats), it all just goes into what can only be described as an act or routine that is about as near perfect as you can get. Thank you so very, very much, for bringing this to the world! :)
This trophy is so well deserved. he did everything right in the open, and how he was able to get the snake to hiss on command is just amazing. Great job, I hope you come back for a third time.
My guess is he put some kind of substance on the card that the snake reacted to. Of course, there is the problem of how do you find out what's in the bucket
Willie must be real pleased to be handled so touchingly ... Willie is even more delighted its name was selected over John Thomas, Peter, Dick, Mr. Whang, Mr. Schlong and last not least Mr. Pizzle. What an honor!
The snake did not make the hissing sound, the magician did the hissing sound. Look at his face (5:35), he covered his face with the card while making the second hissing sound (6:22). He somehow knew what living place was placed in the bucket. Maybe RFID, is mentioned by many. idk. well down.

If I were to guess. A different scent is applied to each object, with corresponding scent applied to each pictured card. Dolphin first placed in relative close proximity of object, held by Teller. Then dolphin trained to hiss when corresponding card is presented, near Allison.

After watching the video multiple times, (some parts at 0.07x speed) and reading all the comments, here is my take on how this trick was done. first, the magician needs to know what was chosen. All of the objects have a radio tag at the base and the interesting looking chest plate has a receiver in it. When teller is asked to blow in the face of the dolphin he is close enough to read the tag. Now the identity of the item can be transmitted to Jo by vibrations. As for the hissing of the snake, there are a few theories. 1. the way he pronounces "s". When he gives the demo he says "give her a clear sign for yess" and the dolphin produces a hissing sound. later he says corals and the dolphin hisses. 2. Detection of heat. The cards have something like the sodium acetate hand warmer in them and they will get warm when pressed on the back. As snakes (identifying as dolphins) can see infrared they could be trained to hiss near hot objects. 3. using the fact that ball pythons have poor vision. This one is a little out there, in all 4 pictures jo does not move the pictures very much but for the last picture, he moves the picture a little more. ball pythons cannot see still objects properly and are short sighted. so it could have been trained to hiss when something moves close to it. methods 2 and 3 require 2 different ways to make the dolphin hiss, once in while giving demo to alysion and other when the picture is shown. Hence they are less likely. If jo were able to find out the choice of penn before the snake is revealed there is an interesting possibility of multiple outs. 5 animals trained to recognize different pictures and one human under the table. But this method is less likely because of the obious difficulty in training 5 animals and also the aquarium looked normal. overall this is a great and one of the funniest performance on fool us that I have ever seen. @Jo De Rijck if you think my correctness is greater than 1% reply with a hiss :)
I think the hissing is much more trivial: Jo just makes this sound himself. And I'm also pretty confident that some variants of radio is involved for identifying the chosen object. There are at least some of them possible, the simplest of which is that Jo has a receiver somewhere with him, which signals, what's the item is inside the bucket, or to be more precise: close to him. Another variant could be that each plate has a receiver tuned for a corresponding item.
