    Thank you so much I’ve been afraid to touch my lamps that are loose and I’m afraid to screw them and make them tighter because I know that the wire inside will twist possibly starting a fire in the future. Now I know what I have to do. Take that piece off tighten my entire candlestick lamp and then put a new socket on top. Thank you so much! I’m a lady and I don’t know about these things And I have three lamps that desperately need this over about a 30 year life span!

    I've been searching and searching for instructions on socket repair on a ceiling fan with a single light. Thank you! I'll try this. Electrician was going to charge me $80 bucks to replace the ceiling fan. Hopefully, I won't have to replace the whole thing.

    I was having trouble with flickering bulbs in 2 of my light switches. I was about to change the socket when a bit of wisdom dropped in my thoughts. It was the SHAPE of the bulb that was the problem. Use the old fashioned shape light bulb instead of the the new spiral shaped bulbs. It fixed my problem immediately. I hope it fixes yours

      I’m not sure what else it could have been, but the shape of the bulb itself shouldn’t affect if a socket and wiring works. Maybe the bulb base wasn’t making contact?
      I’ve had bulbs not work and fixed the issue by pulling out the little tab at the bottom of the socket just a bit (AFTER turning off the switch and the breaker). Hence, the bulb wasn’t making contact with the ‘hot contact pin’.

    Your video is the only one that shows a fan like mine (single light what a pull chain). I understand the process of the socket removal and everything, but how do you reattach the pull chain?
    My fan has a fan light switch that is located in the same housing as the socket, but it appears there's a separate wire coming from the socket to connect the switch to (along with the black and white wires shown in your video).

    If I need to replace a socket for an outdoor porch light, do I have to get one specifically for outdoor use?

    • @Flashback502
      @Flashback502  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      A standard socket should be fine as long as the light housing is water tight. Please subscribe & like and share if haven't already and check out our other helpful videos

    So I have a lamp with 2 bulbs 1 works fine the other flickers and also makes a scary popping sound when I screw the bulb tighter or looser, do you think it’s just the socket needs to be replaced like in this video?
    I’m a total girl and the popping sound was worrisome to me... great video BTW I think I can do the change

    When i turn my ceiling fan on and light is already on,the light shorts out and then comes back on. On each setting of the fan ,the light blinks off then on when changing the speed . I blew a new LED bulb with it. Wondering if there is a short in the switch or the light fixture itself .

    • @Flashback502
      @Flashback502  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching, sounds like the bulbs you have or to strong or you have a short, I would try some lower watt bulbs first. Please Subscribe and share if haven't already and check out my other helpful videos.

    • @manFromPeterborough
      @manFromPeterborough 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Short isn't correct terminology here, it is bad connection or arcing that is entirely different to what a short is. A short is when live and neutral wires touch and will blow the fuse, putting metal coat hanger across pos & neg terminals of car battery is shorting the battery. The LED bulb blowing would be due to pre-existing defect in bulb

  • @Billnn54

    Why didn't you show how to get the fixture away from the fan? That is the hard part. How do I get the socket wires disconnected?

    • @Flashback502
      @Flashback502  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because different lights have different disconnect wires, if your not confided I would get someone else to do it.

    • @Billnn54
      @Billnn54 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Flashback502 Not much of a reply. My comment was not about disconnect wires but about your video that purported to show 'how to 'fix the flickering'. No one can 'fix' it unless they have the fixture taken away from the power source. Try again, this time try to address my concern - how do you get the fan and light away from the ceiling? Thank you

    • @Flashback502
      @Flashback502  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Billnn54 if your tryn to take whole fan down then u have to take out screws that are going into your junction box in ceiling, should be small screws on top cover to take out first to get to main screws. Also there are videos on TH-cam showing how to take down fan, always turn power off to fan first tho.

    • @Billnn54
      @Billnn54 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Flashback502 Yes, that is a good description, but old peckers like me would rather see a video of it, because no matter how well you describe it, we will find a way to screw it up.
