I had the 1.4 turbo. A catastrophic car. Everything went out some of it twice or three times, luckily in the 5 years warranty. Sold it and bought a corolla. Zero problems. After 5 years.
My wife and I bought a used 2012 Cruze back in 2014. it was the Eco version or something like that. Had a 1.6L turbo but it also had a six speed manual. I think it had a double overdrive. When we took it out to Vegas we had it on cruise control in Utah on the interstate at 85 MPH and that little car loved it. Probably only turning about 2,200 RPM at 85 MPH. We loved that car. We prefer stick shifts but can't find them very much anymore. We put over 110,000 miles on the car with no problems. She wound up getting rear ended on her way to work and they totalled the car out because it was had over 100,000 miles on it. But it still ran really good and only had minor damage on the rear end. I had just put a new battery in it, new tires, new brakes all the way around, new front struts and a front end alignment. The at fault driver's insurance compensated me well since I had receipts for everything and could prove I had just put a bunch of money into the car. That happened back in 2018 and I bet somebody is still Cruzing around in that old Cruze. LOL!!!!!
I never heard Scotty actually say that he was wrong, he just said that, that specific Chevy Cruze was not a pile of crap. Anyhow, Scotty is so intriguing to watch.
Scotty, this Cruze reminds me of the Ford Focus. I just bought a 2012 Focus hatchback, 126k miles for $3k. It started out at $4k and I watched it for 6 weeks and the price kept coming down. It has the 5 speed manual, 2l duratech with no turbo. Getting 38mpg combined. I'm thrilled. I just took your advice and looked for a car with a manual and no turbo. I learned to drive in the 1960s on a 3 on the tree, so I'm cool with the manual.
People are changing the oil every year or 15 or 20 thousand miles that’s why engines are blowing out. I change the oil every 3,000 miles on my 2013 dodge grand caravan and transmission oil every 40,000 miles right now have 251,000 on it and still running good
I bought a 2014 Chevy Cruze diesel. It got great mileage and had great power too but the problems started at about 30K miles. I had to replace the DEF tank (diesel exhaust fluid) kept getting warnings about engine overheating and to stop driving immediately! The turbo system kept failing causing the computer to put the car in limp mode (forced reduction of speed) until you couldnt drive it unless you fixed the smog problems related to the clogged DPF filter etc etc etc on and on and on! It spent almost a full year in the dealers repairshop because they couldnt get DPF filters from Italy! GM finally purchased the lemon cruze back from me for $22K after I had it for 4 years. Dont buy any used Cruze diesels!!!
I got an old 08 HHR and haven't had any issues with the engine or transmission. It's lasted so long I figure that's why Chevy stopped making them. They lasted too long.
I have a 2013 Chevy Malibu with over 100k miles on it and it's still running strong with relatively low maintenance, it's an automatic. I test drove a Cruze and it just felt cheap. I'm glad I went with the Malibu.
I bet if they made more manual transmissions available instead of these rubber band boxes people would learn up real quick. I prefer a manual in ANY VEHICLE! Except a plow truck. That’s the only vehicle I prefer an auto.
I put a Fram filter in my car, the filter came apart. I was young and dumb (they told me to send them the filter) stupid me did, Fram said I had too much oil pressure and they were not going to help me with engine rebuild. I have never bought a Fram product again. And I tell all my friends don't ever buy Fram products
My wife bought a Kia Soul new back in 2016. Here it is 8 years later 70,000 Mike's on it and still looks and runs like new. 1.6 liter 4 can. So I think that's pretty good for all the bad new I have heard about them. Hopefully it will last a lot longer.
I had a 2018 Chevrolet Cruze 1.4l turbo. The ignition coil went out then the front main seal blow. It was financed and I let it go after it was charged off.
I have 2012 Cruze with the 1.8 naturally aspirated engine. It has 200,000 km engine is still strong not burning oil. It did need the transmission to be rebuilt about 50,000 km ago. Still gets me where I need to go.
The ecotec is a good engine. Here in europe we see them in Opel cars. One of the most important things one should do (in any newer car) is keep the coolers clean. This means blow away all dust and dirt between the radiator and condenser every once in a while.
The Kia forte the I'm driving now is my seven Kia, no problems at all!, maybe this people abuse the car or don't take care of servicing at the right time or use cheap oil or a combination of all of above
Man I had a 2014 Cruze LT2 with turbo. I had about 80k miles on it and was only 2-3k left to have it paid off. I had to change the catalyic convertor on it and there was a engine cover that kept breaking. After having it fixed at Chevy I had it repaired another 2 times under warranty until it broke again. I decided to trade it for a 2020 Honda Civic. So frustrating when I was close to having it paid off to trade and restart a whole new car payment. Though I love my Honda, wish I had done more research when buying the Cruze.
Scotty makes his customers sign a waiver stating he's not responsible for accidentally striking his customers with his hands while doing videos of their cars.
If you are planning to drive mostly on the highway/freeway/Motorway, try to get a manual car. Your car is going to be mostly running in one high gear. Manuals have good mpg and also easy to maintain.
It's obvious, manual gearboxes are less complex than Automatics and therefore less to go wrong ..I'm British and biased ...Automatic is fine for city driving but I feel more in control with a manual transmission.
I had a chevy cruze 2013 and faced many issues... The big one was the intake manifold iron got a hole in it and was leaking onto the cylinders and it was made in Mexico
These cars are interesting to me. When Obama bailed out GM, part of the deal was that they were going to make fuel efficient, affordable cars that were made in America. Well this was the car GM came up with after that. And I think it's funny how these cars disappeared right after an Obama left office
Had a friend who got that junk as a first car here in the Philippines, gearbox went out at 40k, engine burnt oil since 30k. (kilometers) he got rid of it at year 2
Actually the Cruze is a GM Daewoo, the non turbo & the diesel versions in Korea are quite good & most came with a manual transmission in S Korea unlike the US version assembled in Lordstown Ohio ,it's based on the J300 platform, the ones sold & manufactured in S Korea are also loaded versions with leather & digital screens that put the US LTZ versions to shame & the vast majority are stickshift
Look for the cushy Buick version of the Cruze. It’s called a Verano, and most have a 2.4 litre non-turbo instead of the Cruze 1.4 turbo. Good luck finding a Verano with a stick shift, but the auto has upgraded parts to handle the 2.4’s extra horses.
If you’re going to buy a GM make sure it’s a manual. My mom has a Spark with a manual with 230k miles. It’s literally only going down the road because of the manual. The automatics are lucky to make it to 60k
Stuff your Sorrys in a sack, JUST KIDDING 😊, I love your columns & Thursday's 2:00 shows ,along with Saturday's 11:00 show , keep them coming, very educational 😊😊😊
My rare coin guy has a new F150 Raptor and told me the engine blew up at 1800 miles. Dealer had it for a month and put a new engine. Now he hired an attorney.
I was driving a Kia that had a new engine in it at 25,000 miles. Less than 1,000 miles into the new engine, I floored it to get on the freeway and boom! This one went too...
I will never choose a Chevy over a Kia. I love my Kia. No problems. My my friend has a Chevy. Don't even wanna tell you hom much money he spend on that car. My Kia towed that Chevy so many times. He also wants a Kia now
i work for Holden GM company in Australia. GM American car close down in the end 2017 ( in Australia) GM made Cruze but the car too many problems and Cruze sale very cheap in Australia…not many people like Cruze …
I bought a 2013 1.4L Turbo in 2018. Biggest mistake. Its currently broke down, again. Cylinder 4 misfire. I think I'm done fixing it, looking at taking on a car payment I can't afford and getting rid of this money pit.
Bought my 2014 cruze brand new 14000 bucks140000miles on it now only issue thermostat housing leak auto trans no problem maybe I got lucky but if it dies tomorrow I can't complain
Had a 13 Cruze RS with a 1.4 turbo and automatic transmission and never had those problems it had over 60k before getting rid of it.. my only problem with it was electric problems from day one of buying it used it would have a mind of its own .. had the key in the ignition and it was trying to start itself.. the radio and lights would shut off .. the car would surge forward at a stop.. and Chevy wouldn’t fix it they waited till the 60k warranty ran out without fixing it

1.4T turbo, they were not 1.6L
Anything with a manual transmission that you didn't think of is a hidden gem
I never heard Scotty actually say that he was wrong, he just said that, that specific Chevy Cruze was not a pile of crap. Anyhow, Scotty is so intriguing to watch.
Yah, Scotty is a trained anthropologist. He goes for the big picture.
Scotty, this Cruze reminds me of the Ford Focus. I just bought a 2012 Focus hatchback, 126k miles for $3k. It started out at $4k and I watched it for 6 weeks and the price kept coming down. Usually manual transmissions are way more reliable if you drive them right, like not burning clutches. Plus a lot easier to repair.
no. not anymore in Australia Scotty..
I have a 2008 Kia Spectra 5 with 140 k miles . Still runs great. Change the oil every 5k miles.
Basically elantra. So underpowered it better last ...
why 09 ex spectra just went out at 260 k miles. Transmission failed. Good car while it lasted.

driving now is my seven Kia, no problems at all!, maybe this people abuse the car or don't take care of servicing at the right time or use cheap oil or a combination of all of above
My parents have owned their 2011 Cruze 1.4 Turbo automatic since 2011. Still going with minimal maintenance.
Hey Scotty!! Great viewpoint of a hidden gem. I have a hidden gem -Honda HRV 1.8 liter manual. I wake up and some days and can’t believe I have it.
Great motor, that’s the same engine in the Integra.
It is inspiring to watch your channel. Your videos are always filled with passion and energy. Keep up the good work!🎀🌴🤠
Man I had a 2014 Cruze LT2 with turbo.
Each video is a fascinating journey into the world of knowledge and new ideas. Thank you for your hard work!🎆💫🍓
They sell them in Trinidad and Tobago too. The automatics and the turbos, new and used- and for a lot more than 6 grand usd
Scotty makes his customers sign a waiver stating he's not responsible for accidentally striking his customers with his hands while doing videos of their cars.
false.
If you are planning to drive mostly on the highway/freeway/Motorway, try to get a manual car. Your car is going to be mostly running in one high gear. Manuals have good mpg and also easy to maintain.
My 2019 runs like a champ.
It's obvious, manual gearboxes are less complex than Automatics and therefore less to go wrong ..I'm British and biased ...Automatic is fine for city driving but I feel more in control with a manual transmission.
Had a 2013 it was a great car
Wait, I must be having one of my episodes… I thought I heard Scotty admit he was wrong …? ?
We have a 2012 Chevy Cruze we are on our third engine, do not buy this car it has serious overheating problems which blows the engine immediately
switch the plastic parts to metal youll be good trust me
Am I crazy or did that red van show out of no where
I had a chevy cruze 2013 and faced many issues... The big one was the intake manifold iron got a hole in it and was leaking onto the cylinders and it was made in Mexico
One of the biggest issues and cheapest to fix is the water outlet. They fail like crazy
Apology accepted
So why was the check engine light on?
You are going crazy my friend
Look for the cushy Buick version of the Cruze. It’s called a Verano, and most have a 2.4 litre non-turbo instead of the Cruze 1.4 turbo. Good luck finding a Verano with a stick shift, but the auto has upgraded parts to handle the 2.4’s extra horses.
If you’re going to buy a GM make sure it’s a manual. My mom has a Spark with a manual with 230k miles. It’s literally only going down the road because of the manual. The automatics are lucky to make it to 60k
3k miles on a filter is ok-dandy-brandy for me, seeing's how I *RELIGIOUSLY* change my oil every 2k miles. With Pennzoil. Fram filters. Nuffsaid.
Stuff your Sorrys in a sack, JUST KIDDING 😊, I love your columns & Thursday's 2:00 shows ,along with Saturday's 11:00 show , keep them coming, very educational 😊😊😊
Cruze turbos are notorious for having cracked pistons.
Can't wait to see one of these videos on the late model Civic Si models that are holding strong (even with the babu turbo).
Hey Scotty hope your having a great Labor Day!
I will never choose a Chevy over a Kia. I love my Kia. No problems. My my friend has a Chevy. Don't even wanna tell you hom much money he spend on that car. My Kia towed that Chevy so many times. He also wants a Kia now
Really is case by case bases when you break it down isn't it? Just hope you buy from someone who knows how to maintain and take care of their car. 😅
That should be rule or red flag number 1
Geesh.. had the play speed set at 1.5 for a book read.... OMG😳🚬
SLOW DOWN SCOTTY
An 🎱will last 3 months. 2 easy.
i work for Holden GM company in Australia. GM American car close down in the end 2017 ( in Australia) GM made Cruze but the car too many problems and Cruze sale very cheap in Australia…not many people like Cruze …
I have a 2012 Malibu LT, 180k miles and runs great
That's a new hand and arm waving record for Scotty 🤣😂🤣😂
Hey Scotty,
Here in Aus we stopped making / assembling the Cruze in October 2013. Nobody liked it or bought it here. [Ex Holden employee]
My Cruze was a great car.
Did the check engine light come back on after your drive?
I wonder that, he often clears the codes and never tells us what came back on? Getting sloppy ?
Yes again Scotty indicated the manual transmission is the king. Only buy manual ones.
I bought a 2013 1.4L Turbo in 2018. Biggest mistake. Its currently broke down, again. Cylinder 4 misfire. I think I'm done fixing it, looking at taking on a car payment I can't afford and getting rid of this money pit.
[8:22] To be fair, my lawn mower could probably beat a Nisan Kicks.
😛
How are the automatic transmissions in the Chevy Cruze?
8:42, 9:15
what I have a 12, 6 speed manual 1.4 eco turbo, I like it
Good to hear. Thanks Scotty 😊
Bought my 2014 cruze brand new 14000 bucks140000miles on it now only issue thermostat housing leak auto trans no problem maybe I got lucky but if it dies tomorrow I can't complain
This car uses the same GM technology as the German Opel Astra models at that time
Hey that’s my Cruze!!! Ahh!! 😌
Had a 13 Cruze RS with a 1.4 turbo and automatic transmission and never had those problems it had over 60k before getting rid of it.. my only problem with it was electric problems from day one of buying it used it would have a mind of its own .. had the key in the ignition and it was trying to start itself.. the radio and lights would shut off .. the car would surge forward at a stop.. and Chevy wouldn’t fix it they waited till the 60k warranty ran out without fixing it
@Akel of course it serges, it has a sewing machine engine.
@@DontCryAboutIt ?
@@Akeldama626 serging is making an overlocking stitch, surging is what you meant. Play on words joke.
@@DontCryAboutIt what I meant just like I meant RS model that I had to fix from RC
@@Akeldama626 I got what you said. I made a joke, play on words.
You owe us a lot of sorries for Toyotas
Always an outstanding video and presentation
That's it! I'm off to Brazil for a Chevy Cruse manual, and a Latina hottie!😎
