That was an especially good year for supporting actress nominations! IMHO in no other year has the Oscars seen SO MANY phenomenal performances by actresses in a supporting role. Frankly, I think that Lilia Skala's performance in 'Lillies of the Field' was hands down THE BEST of any that year, even better than the Best Actress nominees!
Hooray for Margret Rutherford, a delightful lady. I have several DVDs of her enjoyable work. All this was even better (& I wish she could have been there) to accept her Oscar from Ed Begley himself. He was a kind family friend whom we would enjoy & have over when he'd come to act at The Coconut Grove Playhouse.
The TJ ladies probably cancelled each other out so it was always going to be Skala or Rutherford and seeing how Dame Margaret is such a lovely funny presence she gets my vote, the best performanc in TJ was Joan Greenwood and she was left out.
Too bad she didn’t present Supporting Actor the next year as was the tradition. She’d have given it to Peter Ustinov (who accepted for her) for “Topkapi.”
@@karlkarlos3545 ... you would need some info about them to look them up, but being that these people have been dead longer than I've been alive it really doesn't matter.
What a marvellous accolade at her age and stage in her career! She’s so watchable even so many decades later.
I love to watch her still as well. A talented and hugely watchable actress.
I wish Maggie Smith won for the VIPs but a lot of great performances were in it?
@@okonh0wpugh. She was as morose as Liz Taylor in that film. Why not a Supp Actor nod for Orson Welles who was WONDERFUL as Max Buda!
Go chuffed she won. Love her. Watching her miss Marple movies now ❤
The legendary Margaret Rutherford.
I'm pretty sure that's Ed Begley giving the award. Great character actor.
Twelve Angry Men.
Begley was presenting because he won the year before for "Sweet Bird of Youth."
It’s so groovy the way that each walks on stage first.

Wow, great to hear that because usually everyone considers this a very weak line-up. Skala is also my favorite but I would argue she is lead
Beautiful wonderful lady ❤️ ♥️
How extremely odd that they had them walk out there like.

Cute way of showing nominees
Hercule Poirot accepted for Miss Marple!
Margaret is a treasure!
very difficult to believe there wasn't a single American deserving of a nomination that year
Was hoping for a witty "bon mot" from Ustinov but he was curiously restrained...
Or even a mauvaise mot!
why curious? he was receiving the award as a courtesy to a friend - is he supposed to make it The Peter Ustinov Show??

Margarethe Rutherford für mich wunderbar unica ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Ed Begley Senior

Diane Cilento was robbed
Not with that terrible accent.

Cannot hold a candle to miss Rutherford.
I have no idea who any of these people are/were.
Well, there is this thing called Google.
