  • This is part 8 of a series on making a Bingham Projects Take-Down Recurve Bow. In this video, I work on the cutting out and shaping the riser. This part of the project seems to take the most time. The riser is typically the part of the bow that makes a bow stand out and you need to take your time as you bring it into the shape you want.

    Again great job on you shaping of the riser...looks really good so far....I'm pretty sure your next bow build will go much smoother...lol keep up the good work...

      Thanks again. I appreciate the kind words. I am sure the next one will go much smoother. Until you do it once, you just don't know what to expect even if you watch the bingham instruction video. They made it look like everything was easy 1-2-3 for like every step! I hoping to get the finishing video out soon. I started final sanding on everything and it is looking good, but then I strung it up and now I have a 1/2" difference in my tiller from each end of the riser to the string. I talked to Elmont yesterday and I think I have a plan to fix it, hopefully in the next couple days. Once that is done, I am about ready to put the finish on. Thanks again!

    Fantastic job on this build! I've binge watched your videos from the start on this. I have the blueprints for this same build but never got around to building anything yet.
    This is a big inspiration.

      Thank you so much! I just finished the bow this morning. Putting on the string noc and the cat whiskers right now. My internet has been down for 3 days, but as soon as it comes back up I will be uploading the next video in the series on how I finished the bow. There were many steps along the way where I thought oh man this is not gonna turn out well, but in fact it came out so awesome on of my daughters was like "That is a legit bow Dad" ;)

    Next time try the adhesive on the riser and the paper template! Great idea though

      Yea me too, cause after the next video I can start shooting it! The shaping the handle took a good long while. You can only sand so much at one time then you have to walk away a bit. Not to mention had to run out of town for 4 days again.

    School glue in the pushup applicator cheaper and just as good to glue patterns.

    Starting to look like a bow!! Still looks really beefy tho to my eye!!

    • @BooneDownSouth
      @BooneDownSouth  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! It might still be a little beefy, I just don't have anything to compare it to except for the compound bows I have so not completely sure how far down I can take it. I might still take a little more off before I start the finishing process.

      On the belly side of the riser you can do about 3/8” 45degree angles to round them off, check out a few of the more well known bowyers to see there shapes, Stalker has tons of pics on his Instagram to get some ideas

    You did an awesome job on this! Thanks for posting it and God bless ya!
    PS wish I had your tools. I build my Mollegabet Bows from 1x3's with hand tools, so takes me a little more time. You have a real nice set up work wood working ...

      Thanks Joe. I appreciate it. I think there is a little more skill involved with doing it by hand like you do for sure.

      @@BooneDownSouth No I don't know about that, yours is much more precise, and nicer than the bows I make ... Mine are a little more raw, but they work pretty good.
