Secondly; when hearing screaming in the woods, you leave. Again, no ifs ands or buts. It's typically one of two things, a mountain lion/cougar (they typically sound like a woman screaming for help, look it up) or someone trying to lure people in to get robbed. You always contact the local or park authorities and tell/show them where you heard the stuff. This is so that on the off chance someone actually does need help they get it without you losing your life, they can possibly find and stop the people trying to rob people, or at the very least be able to warn people of a dangerous animal prowling the area.
Personally I'd say it's time to gtfo when you find a big pile of bones laying about. It's double time to gtfo when you come back later and the pile has gotten bigger. A certain Monty Python line comes to mine: "LOOK AT ALL THE BOOOOONES!!!!!"

Bobcats are pretty normal out here. The animal bones were a pretty obvious sign of one or at least some other predator. The lack of proper dirt pathing makes me believe it as well.

It all just feels like paranoia baiting, there is a creepy track that people use on tiktok that gets overused with "spooky" videos just for the pure fact that it alters your perception of the thing that you're looking at, music, sounds or the overall surroundings you find yourself in are going to cause your brain to go into creative paranoia lol. I remember years back i was drunk and had to walk home at 1 am in the morning and all the streets were empty, had to walk through the park and my imagination was firing on all cylinders creating all these creepy white faces staring out of the bushes at me, because i went into the park paranoid by the surroundings my mind was looking for something to be out of place to legitimise the feelings of unease i was experiencing.
I've walked alone in the dark woods a few times. It can be scary but you just have to remember one rule, that sound you heard over there off trail.... no you didn't. You didn't hear a damn thing. Just keep on walking. This rule has served me well.

I'm totally in for encountering strange creatures in the woods, because that's somewhat plausible, it leaves something for the imagination to interpret.
