    Very good point about not swimming outside the protected flags at the beach. Life savers can only monitor where swimmers are while in that zone. 👍👍

    Great vid! It took me ages to learn about the touching off tram. As for bbqs...coke works a treat to clean it or just take baking paper!

    The easiest way to get out of a rip: is to swim parallel to the beach. Once the rip is not pulling on your body anymore, then you can swim directly back to the beach....cheers.

    I'm glad I saw this! I used to live in Paris where you have to stand on the right of the escalator 😅

    i didnt know you didnt need to touch off a myki on a tram

    • @rachelandnick
      @rachelandnick  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's one of those things locals and tourists do. Yarra Trams aren't very good at getting that info out for some reason.

    • @abdugs8003
      @abdugs8003 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      i thought u need to touch off on a tram if you travel from zone 1 to zone 2 or vv. But if you travel only in the same zone then no need to touch off

    • @rachelandnick
      @rachelandnick  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think you only need to touch off if your whole trip is in Zone 2 so that way you pay a cheaper fare.

      You only need to touch off if your tram moves from the free tram zone to the non free zone and vice versa. Wotherwise everytime the tram moves from zone to zone it could use your money.mthat only if you touched on tho

    Try to avoid the surf beaches if your not the best of swimmers .
    Stay with in the bay area many people drown each year mostly tourist who get caught up in rips.

    Heh, you're right about people not telling you they're annoyed. If you block the escalator or tram door you will receive waves of silent irritation from all directions! Like, no one even clears their throat.

    cool video! Canada is pretty struck with cigarette smokers. never inside, not on patios or under overhangs...a few Canadian winters after they passed these laws, there are not a lot of smokers left. lol

    • @rachelandnick
      @rachelandnick  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh wow really. Yeah all the smokers have to walk further and further to find a spot to smoke. I really want to visit Canada one day. I've heard it's a bit like Australia in some ways.

    • @bduff456
      @bduff456 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You have to be at least 10m away from the entrance of a building so people walking in and out don't have smoke in their face, you cant smoke in a car with someone under the age of 16 in most provinces, you can't buy/sell smokes on any university campus anymore, they can't be on display either, they have to be hidden behind the counter with a door over them, so when I travel and see a wall of cigarettes in convinence stores in like woah! Just not used to seeing it anymore lol

    Shouldn't you stand on the right side of the escalator and people will pass you on the left. Or is it like cars

    • @rachelandnick

      Should stand on the left over here 😊

    In melb on the bay beaches all the red and yellow flags mean is that the only area of the beach the lifeguards are actively monitoring is that between the flags. The rest of beach is safe, they just cant look everywhere along the beach.
    At BACK beaches aka surf beaches the above is NOT the case. At back beaches if there are flags out it means the lifeguards have determined that that is safest area. (Rips etc are common thing at back beaches, but are almost never at the melb bay beaches!)

    • @rachelandnick
      @rachelandnick  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Eva Rips are so scary. I got stuck in one once and was really frightening.

    • @Eva-xb4ui
      @Eva-xb4ui 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      nah...they not scary at all! in fact many australian surfers deliberately swim into a rip as they are a quicker and easier way (than paddling on your board!) to get further out where all the bigger cleaner waves usually are found!
      key to rips is go to chill and just go with the flow. once you get to the end point or a point where its pull is less then and only then do you start swimming.
      Most important thing surf/back beach safety thing though is if it is a surf beach you never been to before, and there are no guards around to ask questions of, then you chat to some of that beaches local surfers before you even get your gear out! The locals will not only tell you where to be careful of, but also where all the best breaks are and what not (if you treat them with respect; its their beach you visiting!)

      the thing I found about swimming between the flags is that the area between can be very small. I've seen it conveniently that only flagged area was in front of the clubhouse so it wasn't that wide. It was so packed there was little room to swim

    Not touching of ISNT the end of the world. As someone who goes to Melbourne a lot (weekly to daily) the team isn’t full of people trying to get off, the my key thing isn’t in the middle of the doors. It’s also really important to tap on and off.

      If you are coming from the airport you will probably get off at Southern Cross station. You can get one there. Otherwise any major stations or 7 Eleven stores too. :-D
