    Doug is a down to earth person has always made me feel at ease. Paradise Springs is a beautiful place to dive

    • @BlueWorldTV
      @BlueWorldTV  ปีที่แล้ว +13

      I very much enjoyed Paradise springs. It's a nice place to train or go for a "cave-like" cavern dive. Not crowded either. Doug likes to teach there. And yes, I agree about Doug. A very patient and calm instructor. Also a good teacher. He really is a cardiologist as his real job--so he is very smart and good at communicating. I can't recommend him enough!

      I think if you’re not a little nervous then you don’t understand the significance of what you’re about to do. I still get little butterflies as I’m about to giant stride. Even after a number of years diving recreationally.

      100%. Complacency leads to errors. Some stress is good, for sure.
      My son and I dive here at Chassahowitzka, Buford sink, NOT eagles nest yet,, won’t be anytime soon for me! I take the Buford sink very seriously, even though we’ve been in it a bunch of times.
      If you’re paying attention to this wonderful Blue world group, Jonathan Bird(Byrd ?). This guy has done A Ton of caves !!! And he can still admit that he’s a tad nervous. I look forward to these episodes! Such great stuff!! Very well done, very well explained in layman’s terms. Top Notch! I had to take a trip down to Hole in the wall adventures , based on this episode, only about an hour from me. Awesome place!!!

    • @BlueWorldTV
      @BlueWorldTV  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Zimmy thought we should take that out. But honestly, the reason that milestones are a big deal in cave diving is because back in the early days of cave diving, it was a very dangerous sport and they celebrated living through it. Now we have special equipment and rules, and it's very safe of course. But we still celebrate the milestones out of tradition.

    • @benderbendingrodriguez420

      @@BlueWorldTV I'm sure astronauts feel the same! Or plane pilots! Advancement in technology has made these things safer... but the danger level is still always at max! That line specifically just always reminds me of people who "want to live in a different time" and that said time is usually when humanity was lucky to push past 40 years old😆 history isn't as always clean as it is on the movies/textbooks

      Tell me about it! Our channel always has less views in winter, but this year it's ridiculous. I don't know what's going on. • @Teampegleg

    It is fun trying to explain to people that with proper gas mixes deep diving for the sake of deep diving is largely anti-climatic. You get to your planned depth, and the only thing different is how quickly the gauge drops. On my first truly deep trimix dive, I was at 182ft in a cave, and I found an old DIR style knife, and I still remember clearly the mild rust on various parts of the blade. It felt no different than any other dive.
    I love how you downplay Doug's job as a cardiologist. For those that don't know he was one of the leading experts on closing PFOs. If you think you are a have PFO he is the man to see.
    Also your dive at Eagle's Nest was a cave dive per the rules. While there are disagreements about total linear distances almost every agency agrees the cavern zone ends at 100ft of depth regardless of the ability to see sunlight. So both your dives at Buford and Eagle's Nest are cave dives. Though since they are training dives, I don't think they count toward the Abe Davis award or access to dive count restricted sites.

    • @BlueWorldTV
      @BlueWorldTV  ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree...the lack of narcosis means that there is no real feeling of being deep. The danger in that is that you don't have the "paranoia" of narcosis to remind you to get the heck out of there. The deco piles on fast! But with the rebreather, the deco also comes off fast once you get shallow and crank up the PO2. We probably should have put more emphasis on Doug's "real job" but from the perspective of this crowd, his role here as an outstanding instructor was really more the point. Doug loves teaching diving and he is really good at it, so we wanted that to be the focus of the story. As for the 100th cave dive, to me it doesn't really matter what officially "counts" or not. I have no intention of applying for an official Abe Davis award. I don't need a certificate that says I did what I know I did. And if I did apply for it, I would wait until I had like 120 cave dives so they wouldn't reject me! LOL!!

    @kevindavison6019 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm surprised you hadn't already had this cert with all your experience. I thought that once one got certified for Decompression diving this was just logical next step. It looks like some additional drills got thrown into the mix. I assumed the jump from regular deco to tri mix was just one of classroom theory and some practice dives to get used to the computer setings.

    • @BlueWorldTV
      @BlueWorldTV  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's what I thought too. For nitrox, all you do is some classroom work to understand the theory, learn the math, and how to set your computer. LOL. I mean, breathing is breathing...so why would you need to dive it? HOWEVER....the difference with Trimix is not the gas itself, but the safety protocols associated with deeper diving and potential gas switching. Additionally, since I did the course on a rebreather, I have to learn a bunch of bailout protocols as well, since you have to learn what to do if something goes wrong on the rebreather.

  • @TauchEin
    @TauchEin ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You should have explain why it‘s a good idea to use trimix in a rebreather these days - the helium is gotten really expensive, too expensive to use it open circuit in my mind.

    • @BlueWorldTV
      @BlueWorldTV  ปีที่แล้ว

      That is absolutely true, BUT this has created a bit of trouble. There are a lot of very experienced open circuit deep divers that are switching to rebreathers just to save money on gas. But they are jumping right back into deep diving on the rebreather without getting enough practice in shallow water. Just because you have done 400 foot dives on open circuit for years doesn't mean you should immediately start doing that on a rebreather. So there is a lot of concern in the diving industry about that. Saving money is not necessarily a good reason to dive a rebreather.

      My total is around 5,000 dives. It's incredible to me that I have been cave certified since 2015 and I have only just now reached 100 cave dives--after who knows how many cave episodes of Blue World and an entire IMAX movie. But when you don't live anywhere near cave diving, it takes a long time to get to 100!!

    That rescue is even harder with two dry suit divers. On my exercise my diluant quick disconnect came undone somehow as I was towing. Before my counter lungs went completely flat I had to safely park the diver being rescued on a wall/ledge, bail out and finish the rescue.
    When you clip off your bailout/deco/stage, ALWAYS crack the valve to pressurize the regulator and close it.

    Come to Seattle! We'll show you the PB4Y, and other wrecks in Lake Washington! There's one dive where you can see 5 wrecks in a single 2-2 1/2 hour dive, though you'll want to do it in the summer.

    Did each of your sidemount cylinders contain trimix?
    Great video. Thanks.

      His stage bottle was likely EAN50 for the gas switch on the bailout dive.

      Yes, both sidemounts were trimix, and the stage bottle was 50% O2. The point is that if you have to bail out of the rebreather, you have plenty of trimix bailout gas, but once you get up shallow again you might have a crazy amount of deco, so you need a deco gas for bailout. If nothing goes wrong, you never need it. I did the entire class (three days) only refilling the sidemount tanks once, because you use so little gas on a rebreather. And the only reason we had to refill them is because in the class you do a lot of bailout drills that use gas.

    John only talked about nitrogen nacrosis but the other problem is oxygen as air compresses the oxygen gets more concentrated, oxygen gets toxic so tech divers also reduce the oxygen levels.
    Anyways great video.

    Great video! Would you mind letting me know what tank you use for your O2 on the back of the rebreather? Aluminum or steel and size? Thank you for your time

    • @BlueWorldTV
      @BlueWorldTV  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's a steel 2 liter, roughly the same as an aluminum 13 cu ft which is what I use when the steel is not available.
