Bought it, simply because of “The Rule of Cool”, the War Duke fits in extremely well with my Xesray Studios Gladiator figures, the Mezco Conan, He-Man, and Mythic Legions, it’s just a big fantasy character that works well with other fantasy stuff. War Duke commanding a band of Mythic Legions Goblins. It’s just fun.
Congrats on the 200K Anthony. I am NOT a DnD fan/collector. I'm here for the humor. The work on this product is very superior from the ones I purchase. The value for my dollar on this product is economically friendly as well. Speaking of the ones I purchase, paint the pink skin blue on Warduke and a perfect Attuma would be kitbashed. Probably for a lot cheaper and a way better product then the one ML could make.
A long time ago, I bought a figure of this character in a street market, without even knowing who it was, in Mexico role-playing games were not very popular in those years, I bought it just because I liked the character, I still have it.
Some time later I found out that it was Warduke from "Dungeons and Dragons".
I recently saw that it had gone on sale relaunched by Neca, and I immediately decided that I would look for it.
Last week, I saw it live in a department store and bought it without much thought.
It is a wonderful figure, beautiful.
My collection sector is Batman, basically, but this Warduke brings back many beautiful memories and Is a splendid figure.

I started playing D&D last year when some guys at work invited me and it’s really fun but I have no idea who this dude is, I’ll get him though because he looks awesome!
It's annoying the shield is only designed to fit in his right hand. So now he has to put the shield down, pull his sword out of it's sheath which is facing towards his right hand, pass the sword to his left hand then pick up his shield again. Hoping his enemy doesn't strike him down in the mean time.

QOTD - I used to read the D&D novels when I was a kid and played some of the PC games, but wouldn't call myself a fan anymore. I also never encountered Warduke, that I can recall, but this figure looked so damn cool that I picked it up anyway. I feel inclined to support toy companies when they put this much effort into a figure and sell it for a pretty damn good price at that. Only thing I'd change about it is exactly what you said, bulk up that chest and torso a bit, and the lack of vertical hinged wrists is a real bummer. I mean the guy has three freakin swords, lets get the right hinge on at least one hand!

Warduke was a figure almost everyone I knew had growing up as a kid in the 80's. I had two and that grey knight guy with the cloth goods blue cape.

I don't care about D&D, I am getting this figure for Mythic Legions fodder. I do think the next 2 figures look really cool.

NECA has the license to the 80's toy line. A few of the toy designs made it into the 80's cartoon, believe it or not.

Not too keen on D&D but remember I got the 1983 version of this sometime in the 80's. Worked fine as a smuggler bodyguard in my Star Wars plays. I need to get this updated version. This looks great!
I agree with your assessment 100%. My B-day was just 2 days ago, and the wife got me this as a present. This fig is spectacular ! And yes, I have played D&D since '84, so O also grew up with the cartoon !
I'm not into D&D but I love the look of the figure with the dry brushing & paint job over all
I imagine the reasoning for the less broad torso is maybe because the other D&D figure they made is a much bigger character, so maybe they wanted to offset it by giving this one a slightly smaller build. That said I like the smaller torso for giving him a bit more of a realistic brawler feel, but I also see the validity in the wider torso.
I'm not into Dungeons and Dragons, whether its the old toy line, the 80's show or the actual game, although I have played with a group once and enjoyed it.
That said, I finally caved and ordered both the Neca D&D figures after finding them on sale. Neca is what got me into collecting, it's probably my favorite company producing figures, so I feel like I know what I'm in for. Plus, my lack of attachment means they'll work as more generic characters for my shelf, and on top of having always wanted a fantasy display, one with an 80's stylization for me is even better.
I do wish the sword wielding hands were hinged the other way, I imagine he'd look cool pointing the sword or even raising it up in the air with the flame effect Witch King style.
I'm pretty sure its one of those "toys based on toys" licenses for Neca (kinda like super7 wit tha turtles) while hasbro gets show licenses and stuff

I think it's fair to get something limited in articulation but that looks so well and has such fun things. It's something to be expected with NECA but the heating need to move it is tricky, mostly for those who don't know the line that well
Don't care for the franchise but that figure is a must have.
Yeah the Arnold point of reference is pretty apt. The art and the era the design comes from needs a physique closer to Conan or the first Terminator but this Warduke is built more like Dutch or John Matrix. That messes with the aesthetic quite a bit, so it makes me wonder how this would look if the upper torso was swapped with a torso comparable in size to the Revelations 40th Anniversary He-Man's.
I had the original figure and for the day it was amazing, very glad to get him again. Thanks for the review.

I just ordered this. I got it purely for nostalgia. I used to have Warduke back in the 80's.
Personally, I'm not really into D&D. I purchased this figure and Grimsword because I wanted to get more into fantasy, and the quality of NECA products, at least aesthetically, is usually really good. I view these more as statement pieces than anything to put in dynamic poses. In your review, I noticed you didn't mention anything about the elbows. Not sure if you've seen it before, but it's a different design than I'm used to seeing. I think it gives a nice seamless look when the arms aren't bent, but when the are, viewed from the side I think it looks a little weird. Regardless, I'm very happy with this and definitely think it is worth the price.

I had no trouble with the hands on anything except holding the shield. The fire slipped right on the blade. The weapons all went into his hands without too much effort. I haven't used any heat at all. I might do a bit to get the shield on properly next time I pull him out for my display shelf, but again... that seems to be all I'll need.
I had the original figure as a kid in the 80's. The size of the chest/torso is probably set smaller than the art on the box to best represent how the original figure looked. This is supposed to be an improved but still faithful version, so... makes sense to me.
They probably adjusted the plastic for different batches
I don't play DND but this looks like a figure I'd buy just because of how great it looks. Can't say that from the obscure marvel characters that got their marvel legends treatment, not a single not mainstream character has gotten a good figure that makes me want to buy it (except probably Maggot, althoufh I haven't bought it)
I love this figure so much that Im gonna pick up another while hes easy to obtain for the time being just to keep him in the cool packaging. I like the Grim Sword figure alot as well but War Duke more so. Both are Neca masterpieces
great figure, but I was extremely bummed that they didn't go with more heroic proportions like all their other figures as opposed to making him look like a normal guy who's muscular. he's supposed to be more physically imposing.
Question of the day: I do play D&D but am new. If I have the funds and see it, I'll pick up this figure.
I feel like Hasbro should just makes figures of generic classes and species, but you know they're going to focus on media, so there's that.

i didn't have the same issues with mine.. hands were somewhat flexible.. i just left one hand on the shield handle and remove it with the shield... tge curved knife was hard to get in the scabbard though.. i love this figure.. i had the original as a kid..

That dagger also looks too small for that sheath. Overall a great looking figure. Will fit well in any fantasy action figure collection.
Probably not plus that new DnD movie looks like it will be average to shit tbh since it's doing the typical "diverse" cast bs instead of really investing in the lore of the world.
I'm just glad NECA is going back to gaming. They screwed the pooch there for a bit, but I hope we see more licenses coming soon.

I got into D&D because of Nerd Poker podcast and started buying Mythic Legions because of it. I'm open to any cool design of a fantasy based figure to go into my Mythic Legion collection.
The scabbard chain on mine had a loose link and the scabbard fell off. Luckily I was able to reconnect it but it was a pain in the ass.
Just ordered mine and waiting 😍 If hasbro made this it will be a $100 lol!

Also Anthony always wanted to know if you thought of reviewing the Vtoys blank bodies even Nota toys and No where Toys since wanna know your opinion on the articulation and their sculpt with how the bodies are proportionate.

Not a Dungeons and Dragons fan, but I was aware of the Warduke character even as a kid, and then he also appeared in the 80s cartoon. Always thought he was a cool character.
Too be fair, I think the artist for the box/packaging made him bigger than he normally is. He is a naked warrior, but I don't think he is super bulky. So, I think the figure represented him in the proper proportion.
I'll probably pick this up if I get the chance. Love the design, the paint work and the chain on the sheath. I don't understand why companies don't use real chain; they are much better than sculpt plastic.
Warduke and Grimsword restored my faith into Neca again. Im a big fantasy guy and these two figures I had on pre order for over a year and half. Way too long. What’s with the ridiculous long action figure waits?!? Anyway I have the original Warduke ljn toy from my childhood so this one hit nostalgia factor.
Neca had me worried. I swore them off two years ago because of their major QC issues. No issues with both Warduke or Grimsword. I didn’t have to use the blow dryer except for his hands to help put his weapons in his grip and obviously to get the flames on the sword. The posability is not the best but it is good enough for me because these figures are meant to be imposing and really not to be put in super dynamic positions. But no heat was required for the joints which was amazing because neca was notorious for stiff fused joints.
I do recommend this for this kind of thing.
This is a really cool looking figure. The difference a matte paint job makes to a figure is so big imo and the metal looks nice and not cheap like on most other figures under $40. I wish the articulation was better but I value a really nice looking figure thats not that posable (but you can still get it into some good poses for a display) > a cheap looking figure thats more posable more now.
Comparing this to the hasbro dungeons and dragons figures is crazy. This looks like a import quality figure. I thought this was a storm figure the first time I saw it. It's like only an $11 difference between this and hasbros single releases or the Venger and dungeon master "2 pack" is like $15 more than this. Hasbro figures don't even have good articulation either.
I'm not into D&D but I always liked the design of the old figure so I got this from bbts and I feel like its already an early candidate for a top 10figures of the year for me

Grimsword is just such a silly looking character. That being said, they did as good a job as they could to make that character look good. Even though it is still silly.

As for the licensing, Hasbro has owned Wizards since 1999, so likely they just licensed it out to Neca like they've done with Super7 and Mezco for GI Joe

Hasbro has owned Wizaed of the Coast since 1999 and wizard's of the coast owned Dungeons and Dragon or also known as TSR since 1997 TSR went bankrupt.

Used to watch D&D with my children, about the same time as the X-Men cartoon was on. Bar a barbarian the skin tones are very pale. How does this scale with Mythic Legions.

huge dungeons and dragons fan, not gonna buy the figure just cause i feel like the whole point of dnd is the role playing, the miniatures, the storytelling, buying action figures of the characters or the funko pops or stuff like that kinda takes away from my draw to dnd
My only Actual exposure to DnD are the old Beat Em Up games, all of them arcade masterpieces, I am absolutely on board with these just for the Character Designs, hope Neca releases some more stuff, the Hasbro figures just Don't do it for me, best way to say it is that they are FUGLY
