How-to-craft a fantasy bridle for a horse

- Ive been asked many times about this topic and it was about time I made this how-to-craft.
This video will give you a quick overview on the steps of making a bridle. I've left out stitching and painting the backside of the bridle, because they seemed very obvious.
I will compliment this video soon with another one. Im waiting for some decor to arrive before I can show your - Im going to show you the harness making too - and how to burn edges.
WHY DO I PAINT THE BACKSIDE ? ≈ I do it because it is the cheaper and easier option than to burn to backside. It will stiffen the leather, and make it easier to clean, and make the leather underneath away from sweat. You should use acrylic hobby paint for this. I usually go with black or gold. I've also used red, which looked very cool.
FINDING DECOR ≈ I use many different types of decor, some not meant for leather at all. I use upholstery nails, glass pearls, aluminium thread, rivets and real stones. I also use a lot from medieval stores and markets. You can find this on Wish.com , etsy.com, armourandcastings.com , laederiet.dk , spqr.se.
LASTLY : Everyone should be free to draw inspiration from anyone, but If you choose to copy something, makesure to maybe ask, or at least reference the creator if you display your creation somewhere.

beautiful piece of equipment. Just a couple of things for you. the tool to make the groove for the stitches is called a stitching groover, also if your dye is a water base you can just use a damp sponge to wipe off any excess dye, you don't have to soak it. also look into maybe getting an edge beveller so you can round off your edges. hope these suggestions help you out.

love what you do and thanks for sharing, the pliers you use to pull the needles through are called long nosed pliers. can i ask how you attached the stuffed part of the browband to the two side pieces and what did you stuff it with please?
Sonja Gaffer thank you so much ! I use EVA foam for stuffing, it makes it lighter than stuffing with leather :)

Thanks so much for this!! Do you ever need something like a jigsaw or a scroll saw to make bridles and other tack or can you do everything with the utility knife? What about for thick leather?

That's a bit meant for a fully finished, light, and responsive horse- it shows off the level of training you'd achieved. It's perfectly comfortable for them as long as you're not yanking on it (which is why it should not be used for young or green horses, or any that aren't already quite light in the mouth)

Veg tan leather is commonly used as it is toolable and dyeable. 3.5mm is a good thickness for 1 layer of leather

Taylor M its an academic bit :) I dont use it on him yet since I dont ride him that much yet . He has been trained and used to a rider in ropehalter :)
well... how big the bit is doesnt entail severity... for all we know its a dog bone shank, which isnt that severe... so idk i dont really judge people by their bits when we havent seen them...
A D the size of the port combined with the shanks on that bit makes it very harsh
@@pitbulls4life141 Which is why they're only used on fully finished horses that are quite light in the mouth already, and neck rein and move off the leg nicely. They're only severe in the wrong hands or on a green or unfinished horse- having it just sitting in the mouth and occasionally having the reins picked up lightly for a stop doesn't bother them at all.
RyanLovesKiddo if a finished horse to you is quite in the mouth, then a harsh bit wouldn’t be needed. Even in experienced hands this bit will be very harsh because of how much leverage it creates.
