This is the first concert by a major rock group behind the iron curtain. 80,000 people attended with an estimated 45,000 additional people listening outside. Amazing what this group accomplished.

They were so welcomed by emotional fans feeling free.

My favorite song of Queen is Its In The Lap of the Gods. So gorgeous. I like both versions. You should listen to the early performances.

In this concert, In The Lap Of The Gods comes from Tie Your Mother Down and continue with Seven Seas of Rhye. I think that, although it is certainly a little short, overall it works quite well.

The people at this show were so thrilled to have a major rock show that I don't believe they would have been disappointed at a song for any reason. People walked and hitchhiked to this concert from all over the Soviet Union. So if LOTG was a bit short, the next two songs made them forget it. So happy you are doing this!♥

OMG!! Freddie’s vocals are so good at Budapest!!
Please TIE YOUR MOTHER DOWN live in Montreal 💪

I think this song was intended to be "fill" and ws often the closing song of a concert, which makes sense to me. I believe that in their Live at Hyde Park Concert, this was in fact their last song before the encore or maybe at the end of the encore. I recall that Brian was the one who introduced the song.

It was a melody, as you said it goes into Seven Sea Of Rye, Queen was adding older songs that people wanted to hear again so they did these melodies and strung them together. Believe me those people knew Queen music.

I think that Queen was trying to surprise the audience by placing that piece of an older fan favorite early in the concert (along with Seven Seas of Rhye.) They did something similar later in the concert by placing Friends Will Be Friends- a new song- INBETWEEN We Will Rock You and We are the Champions.

This is the first song of a 4 song medley and it doesn't work nearly as well in isolation the way you watched it. It's an abridged version of Lap of the Gods. After this came an abridged version of Seven Seas of Rhye, then an abridged verion of Liar, and ended with an abridged version of Tear It Up. They intentionally added a few songs from the early albums during the setlist that they hadn't played in years but that had been fan favorites in their day. The medley is very well designed, starting quite small at the beginning of Lap of the Gods and heavier and heavier as the medley proceeds. These types of medleys were a starndard part of their live shows earlier in their career, but they eventually moved away from them.

I love this song at this concert, but you are right it's short which is why you have to let it go on to Seven Seas of Rhye!!

Well it is incomplete. lol They only sing the first verse. It is really part of a medley with Seven Seas Of Rhye and Tear It Up. Freddie sings this better in 1986 than in 1975.

This was their first conscious attempt at writing a singalong. They did when I saw them in 2020. Even if you don't know it, you pick it up fast. Whole crowd was going for it and I doubt many were around in the 70s.

Thanks for reviewing songs from this concert. I like the way they move from this song onto Seven Seas of Rhye and then a couple of others. Keep 'em coming Justin.

No it’s at the beginning of Seven Seas of Rye they transition right into Seven Seas and Freddie transitions on the piano into it. Everybody seemed to know it even in Hungary where at that time no famous group would even go to because it was behind the Iron Curtain.

Never heard this from the Budapest concert - that he was hitting the falsetto portions so strongly, not needing Roger's vocal support, whoee! Typically I think this is done in a medley format...so the shortened aspect fits that mold and I suspect is that transition when the videos fades.

This was part of the medley of older songs, an idea which was first introduced during The Works tour in 1984, in order to honor the fans requests to do songs from each of their albums, even if in some cases that would be just as snippet of a song. In that medley they would often include songs that weren't played for years, such as Liar, Great King Rat or Keep Yourself Alive. It was just a little nod to the fans of older material which was greatly abandoned at that point in their career. It works better if you look at it that way.

It’s because you listen to pieces here and there.
Start from beginning and go through it.
They arrange it for maximum enjoyment and you flop around and then get whinny

Part of a medley and when the whole thing is played it’s great. Cat on amp is nothing like cat on iPad while I type this.

YES!!! It was very cool. Thinking it was quite exciting going into the next number . . . Yes, Freddie's presentation was a powerful, emotion filled segue into another welcome Queen number. Your tough mincing critiques continue to amaze me. But I come back.....

Totally agree, too early in the set. Do love it though, in all its forms.

you got their short nod to four of their earlier hits as I believe their intent was to do at least one song from each of their previous albums during this tour.

On another note. The TV on static is a great addition to the new set. The black bar flying up all the time is a great addition. No, I'm not kidding. Really I'm not. That type of set production costs a fortune. Good for you!

Nice sing-along but doesn't work well as a stand alone piece.
