    Lazy on a Saturday afternoon…
    Watching a engineer mixing a nice chill song on a Genesis console…
    What can be wrong with that, perfect 😊

    Wow that a nice studio... I have been just dying to see that console in inaction, and I'm certainly not disappointed... Thank You.

    Oh man!! I have been drooling over the Genesys Black console for a few years now. If money was no object I'd already own one. IMO and from hours upon hours of researching, I think Neve smashed it out of the park with this console. I think this is about as perfect a hybrid-workflow console that you could get. Song sounds great too btw.

      Dude honestly, after like 50 hours on one, it's...really clunky. Disappointingly low-quality touchscreen too.

    • @caminglis53
      @caminglis53 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TJF97what’s clunky about the console apart from the touch screen?

    • @TJF97
      @TJF97 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@caminglis53 To disregard the touch screen is to disregard most of the console's functionality; that's one issue with the console and your question. Now before I get too ahead of myself I'll say I'm not really entrenched in the recording world, so perhaps this is just the nuance of a tracking console vs a mixing console being lost on me, but: You can't do much on the desk without the touchscreen. The screen itself seems to be a commercial model similar to Planar 24"; if you've never used one, they have about a 1/4" gap between the touch plastic (not glass) and the display itself, which makes it feel flimsy to use. And if you wish to use any EQ, comp, or filters, you must use the screen, and you must drag and drop. To change an EQ param from bell to shelf, you must press several buttons at once. The only encoders on the control surface are for gain/trim, sends, and pan. All the cool bits of hybrid desks-soft patch matrix, session recall, template storage/recall, signal path adjustments-are locked to the touchscreen and are just about always drag-and-drop. It's thoroughly unpleasant to apply the requisite pressure and drag a finger over this touch surface, which, again, is slightly texured plastic and not glass.
      Adjustment of all EQ and comp circuits is done using a single set of four infinite encoders which do not intuitively translate to paramter adjustment for either processor.
      Aside from the touchscreen, I'm not a fan of: no hard patch coming into the desk, difficulty switching banks to DAW mode and back, frequent network failures, and personally I'd have loved a digital looback feeding a recorder, just for rough prints, but that's a me thing.

      @@TJF97 yes right yeah I see.
      Regarding the faders that can be used for the daw do you think they properly zero out when in daw mode (this is hard electronics wise because of making both modes 100% compatible) but do you see the faders in daw mode working probably of notice what others have said, about not zeroing out daw tracks?

    Nice mix and quickly done too. Must be nice to have everything at your fingertips instead of having to use the mouse for everything.
    Question for Carlo: For recalls, do you commit all of these tracks when you're done with printing the mix, or write all of the settings down for every piece of gear? I don't know much about the console, but I believe it can recall everything, but still, that's a lot of outboard gear to keep track of.

    NEVE,... and some of the all-time great analog outboard processing and effects gear,... nothing left to say. Hopefully the majority engineers of gravitate back towards this method of recording, mixing and mastering for the sake of artists and their music,... and the listener. Superb!

    • @jiddec

      Maybe for recording but not for mixing and mastering.

    • @33AndAThirdRPM
      @33AndAThirdRPM 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jiddec Why not?,... for decades mixing and mastering did their work entirely on analog equipment. some of the best sounding records were recorded, mixed, edited and mastered totally in the analog world with the best equipment available ,... that is still highly sought after today. Obviously editing in the digital world is much quicker which is a huge benefit.The iZ Technology RADAR 24 digital multitrack recorder is the closest thing I have heard yet to 2" analog multitrack tape machines,... expensive but worth every penny if looking for that warm sound quality.

      I think this is just a matter of preference based on a sound you're familiar with or used to because in reality no two analog boards sound the same and besides that, the consumers can't tell the subtle difference between two analog boards or OTB and ITB sounds, to them if it sounds good it's good. All these subtle differences talk happen only among audio engineers. To sum it up, when I watched the final video of this song (mastering) I concluded this is achievable 100% ITB in my opinion plus the advantage of recallable mix preset and faster workflow..

    Amazing work indeed. Which pair of monitors are you mixing on in this video??? Engineers have different work flows & yours is incredible. Also, I see that most studios have a pair of Yamaha NS10m Studio’s right. Are these used during the mixing process or just to reference after the mix is complete? I could ask the same question about the Auratone’s…

      What would be the way to do it?What specifications on the mix desk should i look for?
      I just want to test this on some cheaper mixer and route audio from a DAW thru analog preamps and back..

    The bleed from her vocal mic destroys the drums. It's the biggest challenge of Kat's recordings from Telefunken. Automation is necessary throughout on the horns and the vocal blend at the out.
