Hey Ron, great video. I rode that trail twice last year and you did it the right direction. It's a tough trail with a lot of punchy climbs. Not sure how long you will be in the Tucson area, but if you have time, head South to Patagonia. There is an incredible CC trail down there that runs a bunch of the AZT. Ask at any of the bike shops, I like Mikes, and they can get you pointed in the right direction. It's completely different than the desert around Tucson. Reminded me a lot of Northern California. No cactus..... 🙂 50 year wasn't my favorite, but the views are incredible. There are some options out there. Enchanted Hills and Sweetwater were two of my favorite areas for sure. I lived there last Winter while working and had many opportunities to ride. Cheers.

Hey Brad, thanks for the compliment and the ride tips! Very appreciated! I see Patagonia on the map. I am not in Tucson presently but planning to return in March so these tips will be helpful! Thanks for watching!

Thanks for the input. I hope to explore more of the 50 Year trails on a future trip…but I was recently in Tucson riding Bug Springs and La Milagrosa. There is also a couple of other trail regions I also want to explore. Tucson has some pretty great trails! Thanks for watching!

I was going to ask if you hit any cactus bombs but 60 seconds into the vid you answered that. This ride is not for the timid (me).
Riding the southwest can really make you think hard. You will end up with way many scrapes and pricklies even when you know what you are doing. Don't think you will find me on this ride anytime soon. Well done with what you had Ron. Are you sure this wasn't a double black diamond?

Thanks for the compliment! Yes, this is a single black diamond. The region is attractive to ride during the winter, when the weather is fairly decent to ride. But, when you attempt this far south, cactii are part of the deal. So, you’ve got to pick your poison…cause there are few suitable places to ride in January/February. Thanks for watching!
