VIDEO DESCRIPTION
Well here we are for the second video chronicling my trip to Andalucía, Spain for the #FramesFromAndalucia project. Here we pick up with the rest of Day 3 where I visit the absolutely surreal Torcal de Antequera. The rock formations here are incredible, and I hit the f’ing JACKPOT with some dense fog that made the photography that much more epic.
Lots of 6x17 film, lots of 6x9 with the ol’ Fuji GW690II, lots of slippin’ & slidin’ on the muddy trails. Good times, good memories, and even gooder photos.
Then for Day 4 we ventured off to Almería to photograph a quaint little seaside town on 4x5 Ilford HP5+ film before heading to a beautiful beach where I captured an okay 6x17 frame on Kodak Tri-X and another 6x17 shot on Portra that I think is actually pretty damn cool.
And that’s it. That’s everything that happened.
Man…my 35+ hours of editing this video suddenly seems ridiculous when I see the whole thing summed up in just 142 words. Well, hopefully the video feels a little meatier than the description does.

Really enjoying how different your styles are, and also how Thomas has already been somewhat familiar with the area (well, and Europe in general) and has been raised by the rains of Lake District, while your home turf are the arid landscapes of California.
Just checked out of curiosity and the record 43 inches of rain in 1983 California is half of the average 80+ inches in The Lakes.

That last 6x17 in Torcal is really intriguing. At first glance when I was watching on TV, it didn't jump out at me, but I came back to look at it on my PC and... wow. Very unique vibe.
Loved that beach 6x17 at the end too. The color palette is more similar to your usual desert work, but there's still something different; maybe uniquely "winter in Andalucía" between the lighting and colors.

These latest videos have me excited about my trip to Scotland later this year. While my wife and I will mostly have our sketchbooks I've just got to take my Minolta X-700 with me, I don't shoot a lot of film but that trip sounds like a great reason to do so. Keep it up my man! And that shot at 11:04 is beautiful, I really, really like that one.
Oh, yes! The siding road with the sheep! 2:17 I really like the one at 14:00 as welled "The beach" at the end. Amazing video tour of a place I've never seen before! ✌

Saw this the day that you published it but watched it on TV so no easy way to comment. I actually liked the first pano a like. I also enjoyed your "dualistic" house photo. I found it very engaging and very representative of your architectural photos. Lastly, at least your wife definitely knows that you are working when you go to take photos. I can understand her situation as watching photographers waiting hours for the sun to appear can be "boring". I am really enjoying your Andalusian adventure.

Awesome as everytime. You need Meindl outdoor boots for the next time on slippery ground Nick! The American 617 picture style is very unique. Not easy to get a style like that in Europe, especially in Germany. I tried that with my digital cam, but using a telephoto around 150 mm at full format in mornig or evenening sunny light. That meets the style nearly. Better without fog and rain. Good body work! Thx.

Great bunch of shots. Southern Spain is so great. I remember those big flat cactuses everywhere. I was going to do week 3 of the course I bought from you but I skipped it because this video was up? Has there ever been a case where a teacher distracted the student to skip his class?

Nick! I am not sure whether your creative voice over is more impressive than your photography. Maybe you might consider a career change or at least more of this style of deep dive into your experiences in the field. Great work Nick!
Loved everything except the music. My mumble suggestion is to not use it, because everyone on youtube seems to do it and everyone makes it so loud that you have to decrease the volume for music sections and increase it back up for when people are speaking.

I really enjoyed the photos & video! I love film but I must confess that sometimes the call of my Pentax 645Z is hard to over come.
I have an idea: Just keep going with all the magic of large-format film camera but bring a digital camera which takes the actual pictures. You save a lot of money in the long run and nobody will realize anyway 😂
I know you were somewhat reluctant to take it, but the BW beach photo is my favorite. Absolutely gorgeous in my opinion.
Also, could you explain why you used the center ND filter? Wondering what’s it’s for. Thanks!
