    This sport is unique because you're really rooting for everyone. You might want your country's horse and rider to win but really you want them all to do well.

    • @katepayne7271
      @katepayne7271 5 ปีที่แล้ว +134

      Sometimes a softer bit is better than a hackamore. Hackamores are actually quite harsh on the horses face. Bits are only sore if you rely heavily on them, I do like that he didn’t have any spurs or crop though

    • @sarahthebear2853
      @sarahthebear2853 5 ปีที่แล้ว +37

      I don’t use spurs but for the jumpers round I’m pretty sure crops are required attire and as other people said hackamores are rough on the horses mouth. She also got 14 time penalties, so there.

    • @meganproffitt424
      @meganproffitt424 5 ปีที่แล้ว +34

      Crops aren’t required - it’s an aid many riders use as an insurance policy. They ride with it, they don’t use it. Hence why it’s an insurance policy.
      Spurs aren’t bad if you use them right.
      Hackamores can’t be harsh on a horse’s mouth if they stay away from their mouth. They’re harsh on the nose and other sensitive areas on it’s head, but not it’s mouth.

    Y'all need to calm TF down about 17:00. The rider made the safest decision for herself and the horse. She felt it backing off the second jump but had too much momentum to stop safely, and not enough room to go out the side door without crashing into a standard. You think she should have tried to get the horse to go from landing off a forward stride to a big oxer, then within two strides skid to a stop? The horse would absolutely hurt itself attempting that. It could pull a muscle or wrench a joint or tear a tendon. She had to encourage the horse to attempt the jump and believed it capable of getting over. Remember that these jumps have safety cups, so even if the horse lands on top of it, they'll break away underneath instead of causing it to fall. There was absolutely no room for a gentle touch from the crop. This was an emergency situation and she could NOT afford to "ask." This is a situation in which you NEED to "tell" to keep you both safe.
    Maybe you would risk a horse doing serious and permanent injury to itself attempting a stop or a turn like that because you think it's worse that it gets a sting for a few seconds from a crop. If so, maybe you shouldn't be making decisions for a horse because your decision-making is dangerous.

    • @lunarequine7734
      @lunarequine7734 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Agreed. It was either make her horse jump and hope it would get over the jump as safely as possible, or try to stop or run onto and risk slamming into that jump or a nearby jump and seriously injuring herself and her horse. As a rider, it’s your responsibility to put both your and your horse’s safety before your desire to win a competition. If someone would rather risk their horses safety because “hitting horse with stick bad!” then they shouldn’t be riding.
