On December 29, 1996; WJKS (Now WCWJ) marked the final newscast in the station's 30-year history after 17 lost the ABC affiliation to Brunswick, GA station WSBG (Now WPXC) and upstart WJXX 25 (Now owned by Tegna) both were owned by Allbritton.
WJKS 6 & 11pm newscasts were replaced the next day by sitcom reruns (Hangin' with Mr. Cooper at 6pm & Cheers at 11pm).
