What a class act this man was, saw him live in Brighton years ago, great voice and wonderful stage presence. Val Dominican rated Howard Keel the outstanding performer on his shows. Apparently one very nice guy.

One of Hollywood's true greats. Actor, singer, and by all accounts, real nice guy. My parents got to see him in, I think, Oklahoma, on the London stage. Lucky

Loved it. I don't think this clip or performance was ever available in the U.S. Howard Keel much better stage-presence than his movies. Thanks for post.

He did lots of stage performances before he ever made any movies, so this is really familiar for him.

I'll ask Mr Google how tall he was - he looks about 7 feet tall and so relaxed on stage.

He sounds pretty awful here. His voice left him by this point.

Absolute rubbish - the tone of his voice, his breath control was fine - and he could hold a long note better than many feted singers half his age. As one who has studied the timbre and dexterity of many ‘would-be’ opera singers (usually ‘cross-over’ with pretensions), to me, his voice has stood the tests of time.

You realize he was born in 1919, which means he is 65 years old. So he does not have the muscle tone that he had when he made all those classic movies in the 1950s, but for his age, he sounds GREAT! There are plenty of "awful" performances on TH-cam from much younger singers.

@@coloraturaElise I totally agree. He always had the charisma/magic (presence) in every film he ever made and I can see here now even more so on stage! However, he is here lip syncing to a professional recording of the songs for the best sound quality. He does it with such perfection from his training in the musical movies. His singing is still great here!🤗

@@charliechilders6630 I just rewatched this to see him lip-syncing, and I can't see it. What professional recording was he using?

@@coloraturaElise thank you for your love, support (and maybe possibly defending ) one of my very favorites of all the great legendary singers from the greatest movie musicals of a 1950s! He was always so very kind and supportive whenever he was asked about working with Judy Garland in"Annie get your gun". He said that when MGM fired Judy from the film, they were cruel and showed no class. Judy was and would have been much better than Betty Hutton. He said that they should have waited for Judy. However, when I mentioned that he lip-sinced to a professional recording, I didn't mean that this was from one of his record albums. I just meant that the producers of this TV special showed the class to pre-record this great star's songs in order to see and show him at his very best! This was only because this special production spared no expense and had him dancing and singing around a cast of beautiful girls etc. This is also the reason why movie musicals were pre-recorded beautifully and professionally in their recording studios. This was to always keep the sound steady as they moved around etc. He looks and sounds great here!!🤗💌
