I seriously believe that the new artwork and the new plastic mechs have put BattleTech back on the forefront of gaming. I am an OLD battletech player from the 80's. I hated most of the art, even original art back from the 1st day most mechs came out. However, now the Battletech guys have given many mechs a facelift. Now I can be proud to own them. So, for the first time ever I've bought some of these new mech minis. Yes, I am an old player, but didn't buy their silly looking mech minis. I now own just over a battalion in fact. That is 40. I actually own 44 mechs. That is a lot of money to own these. This is about $250 for all of them. Of course, this includes also buying the 8 that came with the Game of Armored Combat boxed set.
I'm like you I played in the 80's when it came out. Even went to the cons and played against Sam Lewis one of the developers for the game. Let's just say he cleaned our clocks. I had the old pewter lead figures and they were nice. These though are much more detailed and ready to play as is which is plus for many. As much as I want to buy all of these right now i'll have to wait. Still though seeing this brought me some needed pleasure. Thanks.
Honestly thats a good haul of mechs. I really should get some of these salvage boxes, they seem like a good way to grow my collection in unexpected ways.
Yeah I honestly love the idea of them just wish the pool of mechs was bigger but the next wave of miniatures are coming soon so hopefully they do another salvage box for that wave
There’s a local game shop that has just put an order in for some and is looking at doing just that most of them have not heard of battletech but are seeing it’s rising popularity here in the UK and want to get into it…can’t wait makes me feel like a veteran of the franchise lol… might even record it if they don’t mind I can make a video out of it
I pulled a Mercury 20 ton on my first pull. Box soo light I thought they forgot to put a mech inside. Second pull was Turkina and that box was as heavy as a USS Enterprise.
Used to run a 4SP srm shotgun in MWO. Fun if somewhat temperamental mech. Nice pulls. I managed to score a Atlas in my first box... Was very happy about that.
Yeah I think honestly the hunchback is the best starting point for new players on MWO but I’d say the 4J is the missile equivalent of the 4P and 4G as it’s just got the one shoulder and I like the way it has more laser hard points to back up the missiles as well
I am a tad confused, if the boxes mostly contain Innershpere mechs why does it have Clan in the title? I used to be heavily into BT back in the days of FASA, but I gave it all up in 2006. Now I am looking to get back into the game, but only casually so I purchased the Beginners box which, looking at it now, was a wise move. I believe it to be excellent value even here in New Zealand where things cost just that little bit more than dear old blighty. Standees have their uses and I think it was a nice inclusion in the box, but I am a miniatures guy so am looking to broaden my collection. I have also chosen to just stick to Innersphere and not get bogged down with Clans, even though some my all time favourite mechs where Clan, Adder, Atlas, Madcat and so on. I don't know where to go from here. Blind packs, I like the fun of discovery, or the next box set even though I don't plan to use the advanced rules, or something else. I also like the simplified mech sheets that come with the beginners box, so will I be able to obtain these for other mechs purchased by other means.
My recommendation would be look into battletech alpha strike rules if you don’t already play it, its basically a more simplistic version of the game and advanced rules are not necessary plus once you learn the rules the same rules apply to every mech you can dream of, you can also play with any mech of your choice from any era so for example if both you and your opponent use 150pts each and clan mechs are better they normally cost more meaning you can normally field more inner sphere mechs which keeps the game balanced, to answer your question about the boxes containing inner sphere mechs the reason they call it clan invasion salvage is that the boxes contain mechs from the clan invasion era so that’s both inner sphere and clan alike, it’s hard to explain it all in a comment but I should probably mention that I’m looking at doing a how to play series for the game in the future but it may be some time yet before that happens.

The difference between the 732 & 733 is a bit more than he mentioned, as S3 M4 L3 vs S3 M3 L2. Essentially the 732 is the Star League version with Gauss. The 732b if I remember right the Royal version. I wonder if they have a IIC version in miniture?
At the moment the only way you can get the IIC is 3D printed catalyst haven’t made their version yet also the 732 and 733 I know are different but the difference is minor it would be wrong to say one is better than the other the difference is so small it’s more like what would you prefer
@wonkyorc9403 in Alpha Strike the 732 is just straight up better. It's not really open for debate. The stats are the exact same except the 732 has better mid and long range firepower, and it has CASE. The only other difference is the 732 is 3 points more expensive.
Battletech we are happy to use stand in models, any model can be used as a different unit. You should realy learns some clasic Battletech, so you don’t just state numbers, and expect a mech to change speeds between variant’s. Thinking about it since xl engines arnt a structural weak point they must be higher battle value.
Just a note, im sure you already know, but the Mercury is an SLDF mech that is owned in large numbers by comstar and is considered lostech before the clan invasion. Edit: Also that victor.. no long range but has an AC/2? Bit weird, should be at least 1 long range. If it was an ac/10 or ac/20 id understand.
AC2/2/- is a rule for the game it basically means you can fire your AC twice at short or medium range in one turn, the - means the ac can’t reach long range as each bracket indicates the short,medium and long range value for the weapon in that order the benefit to having that rule also means it can take different ammunition which each come with their own pros and cons as well which is quite nice. Tbh though I found that confusing in the same way as well when I first started playing lol
You should I’ve been getting back into tabletop stuff myself recently there’s a lot of choice out there but warhammer is pricey which it why I tend to avoid it which is a shame

Tbh I prefer a lot of the new catalyst miniatures to the PGI MWO versions, they are in a sweet spot between the new and old art styles and I love it

Yeah Highlander is an awesome mech but when it comes to IS assault mechs my favourite is the banshee
You could totally do blind tournaments with these. Everyone gets a certain number of boxes, opens them and builds a lance out of the mechs they get

You mix Clan and IS names between mechs, it's quite confusing!
Sorry about that I prefer the IS names but most people know them by the clan names so I switch between the 2 a lot
