- This is the last video in the Preparing For, Applying & Matching into Residency playlist. This video discusses tips I have for submitting your rank list and sending love letters to programs. I show what my actual rank list looks like on the NRMP website and how to organize your residency programs. Love letters can move you up the rank list if done right so I go over some tips!

Thank you so much for this video! Is it worth sending a love letter to your top programs that aren't #1? I'm afraid of hurting my chances of getting ranked high if programs don't like that.
Gotta keep in mind that all the risk for going unmatched is burdened by the programs. Since it's applicant driven, it prioritizes matching the applicants over making sure programs are filled. This is why programs are incentivized to lie to us and tell all of us that we'll be ranked #1, even thought most of the time it's a lie (and you're not willing to believe it's a lie because you want to feel special). But they're doing it for a reason - to get as many high ranks as possible to ensure they go fully matched. It's mind-blowing how many people don't realize this and still try to "game the system" by matching based on what they think they have the best shot at..
Some of the programs I interviewed with this cycle stated that they don't want to be sent a Love letter or I am ranking U 1. What do you think about that? Thank u.
