@@RealTeX1 I thought he was a great wrestler too. Regardless of what happened unfortunately he also came up during the wrong time. Attitude era and early Ruthless era had too many larger than life stars. He can't compete with them.

Man that week was crazy it had the duet Heyman cutting a pipebomb on Vince and Kane with that red attire he used only for the survivor series match. Also originally Vince was going to be on the match but he was a bit injured so he was replaced with Big Show who needed to redeem himself since he was a bit of an afterthought during the whole invasion angle. Also is weird to me that Austin got no reprocutions from his actions the night after SS when he went back to being a good guy is like all of the heel stuff he did was for nothing same for Vince and Kurt being good guys then going back to being heels again and for Kurt is twice since he was a heel before SS where he went face again then the next night to a heel it just felt a bit odd honestly.
I heard a rumor a long time ago that basically said that if Triple H was still around during the invasion that he would have been in Stone Cold's alliance spot and that Stone Cold would have still been more heelish but he would have still been siding with Vince from the Mania angle.
Honestly that makes way more sense than Austin. Triple H's ties to Stephanie, plus the fact that he hated Vince almost more than Austin did at times, would have made for a way more compelling turn.
Before the quad tear when Austin and HHH were teaming as heels the plan was for HHH to turn mega-face at some point. It was yet to be seen how shitty the WCW invasion would go. The whole alliance thing with Austin was put together on the fly as the whole thing turned into an epic clusterfuck. That dumb angle wasn't a faint possibility when HHH was still healthy.
I still think Austin should have been a heel leaning Tweener. Like a most serious version of his DTA moto. Just never teaming or being with anyone. Offhinged and paranoid. Basically making it everyone vs Austin so that you can have Austin lose it to the alliance and leaving for a while since no team wants him. So then you have him come back as a more face version of his tweener gimmick and have a story of Austin leaning on each side but ultimately going to the WWF side turning fully face.

Great video. Really it's a story of leadership. The lack of intervention from Tony let all these issues build to the point of boiling over. Only reason it will work with WWE is the fact HHH seems to be much more willing to sit and talk things through. He also has an understanding of the wrestler mindset. Either way I wish his AEW run led to more.
