Thanks James for this!! You really are the first person to thoroughly explain the difference between Network+ vs CCNA. I’m now studying for Network+ and was thinking how do I setup a VLAN, how do I configure this, etc.. and you explained that CCNA teaches you. Haven’t heard anyone else state this in their vs. videos!

Correct! accurate information, especially in regards to the difficulty delta between the two exams. Cisco is the benchmark and all other vendors us the same cli commands, with the exception of Juniper which requires "commit" to confirm commands. Vendor specific is always more appealing to hiring managers than broad vendor neutral offerings. CompTIA exams are designed to be a low barrier to entry, theory only exams. Sec+ is useful as a DoD requirement.

Yep I agree that the DOD reqs are useful by getting Comptia certifications. But once you get the net+ you can go for one of the vendor specific ones.

CCNA is mandatory to be able to apply for some network engineers jobs in my state. Both CCNA and Sec+

That doesn’t surprise me! The State of Ohio where I’m from is all Cisco networking. Thanks for the input.

Yeah of course. The best path would be net+ then ccna.

Honestly I have a Network+. The advice that HR always views CCNA better is not true. For example Network+ is DoD complaint ANSI accredited and covers important learning concepts such as DNS and DHCP (hint hint) to a depth that CCNA does not [from my friends who have taken it.] Anecdotally I have landed a job with this cert!!!

Yeah Network+ is a popular cert that you can land a job with. I believe the CCNA can be leveraged well in interviews by doing hands-on networking. But not all jobs require all of that networking knowledge. Thanks for watching!
