The City of Fennville has the goal of bringing new ideas and quality services to our residents. As the population of the City grows, we find that there are new and different needs to be met. As our rich and diverse cultural heritage suggests, there is a wealth of experiences to be found in Fennville. From our beautiful bed and breakfast establishments to the authentic eateries, the City has much to offer.
Our downtown area has grown and prospered over the years leaving us feeling pride when we drive through our downtown area. The City Officials continue to work at attracting additional businesses and development to the community and are working at expanding recreational opportunities for our residents.
The citizens of the Fennville Community can rest assured that the City Commission is committed to providing the highest possible quality of life for residents through the governmental process.
A Community Rich with HistoryDowntown Sunset
Fennville was named after E.A. Fenn who came to Fennville from New York City in 1853. A miller by trade, Fenn opened a sawmill, originally giving the settlement the name Fenn’s Mill. The name was changed in the late 1800s to Fennville.
On February 20, 1889 Fennville was incorporated as a village. The first village president was a businessman named Frank S. Raymond. He partnered in the hardware business with L.S. Dickinson and also J.E. Hutchinson in both a store and a bank.
The Federal Census listed the population of Fennville at 360 people in 1890. The City of Fennville became official on February 7, 1961, with T.E. VanDussen as the first mayor.

As of 2020, the total population of Fennville has grown to 1,745 residents. The City Commission, which appoints the Mayor, governs Fennville. The City Commission consists of seven elected officials who hold four-year terms. The Commission meets on the first and third Monday of the month to set policies and make operational decisions for the City.
The City has 7 employees which offer a variety of services to the community including administration, public works, police, water and sewer services.
