    ABOUT A TO ZEN LIFE
Along my journey to let go of 30 years of clutter, I accidentally became a minimalist and it was life-changing.
Before, I was an emotional hoarder with nothing but the clutter from lost loved ones - and $25,000 of debt - to my name. Now I have a beautiful home in Europe, a happy family, live debt-free, and - best of all - wake up to a life that I’m EXCITED to live every day.
My mission is to help you conquer your clutter and simplify YOUR way to a happier and better life. HERE'S OUR STORY: atozenlife.com...

Love that you stopped to whisper about the squirrel eating seeds on your patio. I do that all the time. It's fun to share those moments with my family.

A friend of mine used to call those special serendipity moments "God winks". Without getting all woo-woo about it I am convinced that our bonds of love transcend space and time and those little signs are one way of communicating that love. You will know it. Just whisper a quiet "thank you" when it happens.

An observation I made: we always had hooks down below for the kids. Same system they had in kindergarden. All kindergarden kids visiting us always tried to hang their coat somewhere and be it over a backpack, but never left it on the ground. Several of our friends didn't care and their kids just left the coat on the floor. They still do it now that they're 12.
In a nutshell: teach them clothes belong onto something and they are more likely to be unwilling to leave them on the floor on any occasion.

Monarch butterflies are my sign of hope! I tried for many many many years to have a baby and one day I was having a break down after a failed fertility treatment and saw one that landed on my butterfly bush in the back yard.. went outside and that butterfly flew around my head a few times and I think it was God trying to say have hope… 4 months later I found out I was pregnant then after I had my first baby .. a month and a half later found out I was pregnant with my second baby

100% believe our loved ones stay close to us. I just think their souls/spirits are more refined matter that we can't see. My dad was a carpenter and could build or fix anything. He passed away when I was 30. My husband bought me a porch swing for my 36th birthday and was struggling to put it together. There was a price of wood that was not properly cut and he was about to take it back to the store when he suddenly said, "Wait! I know what to do!" His voice sounded like my Dad's voice. Stunned, I turned to look at him and he said, "Your dad just told me what to do! I heard his voice say 'cut it here and here'." He did it, and it worked perfectly. It's still on the porch!

😂 I have that little Turkey pillow shown in your “nope” clips… but in my case got it for my back in the car. It works perfectly, and was cheaper than pillows designed specifically for lumbar support! I took it on a flight too, also perfect. Like you said in another video, minimalism doesn’t look the same for everyone, as we have different whys.

We also found that bins up high on a closet shelf are not great because they become mystery bins where you sort of have to take them ALL down any time you are looking for something because you can’t see what is in which bin. Now we only keep bags up on the top shelf. I’m about to go move our umbrella up there too though- that’s another good item to keep up there!

One thing that worked really well in our family (5 kids), was hooks in the front entryway for our jackets and backpacks, and underneath was a mat for shoes. As a teen this worked much better than a bin because I'd go in and out of my backpack multiple times, and I know if it's been in a bin that I had to pull out, my bag would've been on the floor for sure.

Oh absolutely! I have been deeply talking to my grandma, who passed away so many years ago, and asked for a very particular sign within 1-2 days if she can hear me. And that sign is so unique, so rare, no one would randomly just get it. And about less than within 1,5 days after my talk the agreed/asked sign came up! Which blew me away! The way it came about was also very unique orchestration! :) so definitely we are seen and heard and guided! That is why lately i have been looking into those “alternative” ways of thinking, like NDE stories, like “next level soul” podcast/channel. Some choose to not believe this “New Age” stuff, but I find it gives me the peace and some kind of comfort when I see my dad battling 4th stage cancer. And my grandma’s (his mom’s) show up and confirmation made me think in a more positive way and rather made me somewhat cheerful!

Just because our loved ones have crossed over doesn't mean their love has dissipated. In fact, it's often times that they can communicate clearer with us now that they are on the other side because things like pride and ego are no longer a factor. If you smile every time you open those drawers, then know your mother is smiling back at you with the same warmth in her heart that you are feeling. Love doesn't die. It's always there - you just have to open your eyes and your heart to it.

We've lived in two houses, and each time we found a tiny reference to St. Joseph, a fridge magnet left behind in the first and a tiny statue buried in the garden of the second. My husband keeps the statue in his workshop. When we viewed our second house we both immediately were reminded of my husband's grandparents' home which had just been sold after their deaths. It immediately felt familiar to us, and it's been a great house!

I lost my entire childhood family between 2015-2020, and there are so many times I think of/remember/see things that would've come straight from grandma/grandad, or my mom. 💜 I usually take a minute then to thank the Lord for their love, shed a quiet tear, and try to live in a way that honors the person they raised me to be.

When I was little my dad put up two rows of hangers in our entry way - one higher for adult coats, and one lower that we could reach for children's coats. I've not thought about these hooks for years, but watching your video reminded me of the irritation I felt when one of my parents hung something on "my hook"! I guess even as I kid, I was unknowingly trying to embrace that "a place for everything and everything in it's place", but couldn't because other family members were chaotic, and didn't stick to the systems 😅

Thank you for posting these videos, it has inspired me to declutter, and have value to the things I have. Although my home is no way close to minimalistic style, just having enough space is relief. I want to know if you can do a video of food that is prepared in your home. When you think about it, most likely a lot of “mess” happens when baking/cooking or meal prep and it’s nice to know what your style to keep it tidy.

For me the tricky area to organise has been our entryway - we actually don't use our front door (which opens on to a traditional / mid-century style alcove entry) all that much. Instead we tend to enter our home via the side door that goes straight into the kitchen / eat-in area off our driveway. We have hanging storage inside the front entry, where our winter coats, umbrellas, hats and scarves hang; but what I really need my husband to do in particular is take off his shoes and dirty work coat before he enters the house via the side door.
For this purpose I but a bench cupboard next to that door, on the outside of the house (it's undercover) a couple of years ago, but it's hardly been used because he keeps piling up stuff in our carport / driveway! Just this weekend he had to clear a bunch of space because I sold our treadmill and that's the only way to get it out of the house. When he moved some heavy items from in front of that bench cupboard and I opened it to reveal not one, not 2, but FIVE pairs of shoes he had forgotten he owned / had insisted he needed to replace, well... needless to say he's now motivated to spend the next couple of days clearing up that space and getting it more organised. Fingers crossed it lasts ;)

I remember that contact paper! :) However, I live in Florida and bugs can get under it so I do not line drawers with it. I have used it to wrap a decorative box. I definitely would have taken that contact paper as a sign. My grandmother was a WAVE during WWII. She passed due to COVID and her funeral was delayed because of this. My Dad and aunt opted for a funeral on what would have been her 101st birthday. It was simple honors at a National Cemetery. My Dad still lives in the childhood home. After the funeral my aunt drove by the house to drop something off. My Dad and I weren't there, I forget why. But my aunt saw an eagle in the neighbor's tree. NEVER had they seen an eagle in that area in the 60 plus years they lived there. It ended up flying away but it was perched looking at the house. We were like that's Mommom. My sister moved from Florida to NC and there was an eagle as they left or arrived...I can't remember which. I think it was in NC watching over her to make sure she got to her new home safe. But yes there are signs and gifts from those that love us and no longer with us.

We use hooks for keys on the underside of the shelf in the closet. It makes it fast and easy to hang up the keys when taking off shoes and hanging up coats all at the same time in the entry way closet. For backpacks this also can work by hanging backpacks on the side of the closet if deep enough at a height just below waist length jacket. The space is usually wasted as it often falls in the area behind the structure next to the closet door(s) We use the same idea for hats, gloves etc in a breathable fabric box on the top shelf in the closet for cold weather items but we have adults only so no concern for kids reach height.

🔑We had a tendancy to lose keys in our house as well. I added some command hooks to the inside face of an upper cabinet door in our laundry room which is right next to the door to our garage. It now has become a habit to hang them as soon as we walk in the house PLUS, it's not an eye sore. Win, win. You could also do this on a coat closet door if you access that every time you go out.
