I had my first taste of Japan in 1979 when aged 17. I was loaned the Adolescent Sex album and so impressed was I with the music and songs and David Sylvians vocal that I ran out and bought the album and shortly after the Obscure Alternatives and that was it, Japan grew on me rapidly. I absolutely love both those albums and everything they ever wrote and recorded, and of course, all that Mick Karn supplied with is splendid bass and later, his soulful Saxaphone. Japan has such a unique sound unequal to any other band, then or now. They are timeless, and I still even now play their music to this day. It was a very sad day when Mick passed away, and although he is no longer physically here with us, spiritually and musically, he still is and always will be so RIP Mick ❤🎉
Mick Karn is still beyond time today. He developed a unique style and was imitated by many bass players at the time. With Japan he created memorable records that deserve much more attention. A thousand miles away from the pursuit of easy success, a true artist with exceptional talent. Unfortunately he left us too soon.
This was nice to hear. I am a fan of Japan since way back then and have loved their sonic explorations. In particular I was mesmerized by Karn's slide bass work. And I am a huge fan of JPJones and Geezer from the early 70s. God Bless you Mick Karn, you really were a one of a kind inspiration.
I was one of those black nerds back in high school, and had a deep appreciation for new wave music and I heard them on Tulane University’s radio station. I never heard anything like that and I always sought out alternative music and still do. Japan was my favorite New Romantic New Wave band. Rest in peace Mick Karn🙏🏾
One of my favourite tracks by Japan is: Sons of Pioneers. Micks opening bass lines and throughout the track are absolutely brilliant and on so many other tracks.
This is BEAUTIFULLY made and properly honors the legacy of Mick Karn in a no nonsense fashion. It would be hard to imagine an idiosyncratic iconoclast like Karn would be anything but pleased with being presented so respectfully.
Cheers for this excellent video! I bought Quiet Life, Tin Drum, and David Sylvians first two albums.when I was a teenager. I had at that time no idea of what excellent musicians they were, although even then you just had to listen to know how special and unique Mick's playing was. Within a couple of years his style was being mimicked by the likes of the excellent Pino Palladino
he was unique with a fretless, his composition and feel were 2nd to none, the sound he crafted is his trademark and legacy,a one off genuis taken all too soon.r.i.p mr khan.
Wonderful tribute - his hard to find autobiography is amazing and curiously towards the end of his life he was qualifying as a psychotherapist . Polytown is my favourite of his works .
Time for many bands to admit the reality of Japan's influence on the New Romantics and New Wave. They were the beginning, along with Steve Strange, of a new world.
Almost positive Kim's brother produced some of the songs on Titles, I believe, but I don't remember him playing for Kim Wilde. May have, but I haven't come across that yet.
Did you see the link I provided? He did indeed play on Kim Wilde's song "Try Again" on the "Love Is" album. www.discogs.com/release/2661153-Kim-Wilde-Love-Is
No I write the scripts myself and the music is eighter composed by me or I use something from the original band when it does not give me a copyright warning. I do all the video content myself too (hours of finding photos and cleaning them up etc.). I also do all the video editing as well as the graphics and thumbnails. The only AI here is the voice as my english is ok but with a danish accent.
@@80sNewWaveMusic Thanks for replying. While I appreciate your hard work, I could tell the voice was AI, which is a shame. There's something missing. I would have preferred a danish accent from a real person. Good luck with everything you do.
I hated new romantics/ new wave. I wish Karn had kept that lateral gliding in the closet. Compare and contrast: Wilko Johnson with Dr. Feelgood doing Roxette. Raw.

I totally agree. Japan and espcially Sylvian and Karn has been a "love story" to me since I discovered them in the early 80s
Mick Karn, musical genius.

One of the greatest, original fretless bass players of our time.. Totally unique.. There has never been anything like him... GOAT

His work on Gary Numan's "Dance" album is simply sublime! 🖤
A really good example of Mick's style.

Thanks for your reply. I am quite happy with the AI voice and won't change it as of now. Maybe later :)

Indeed, Wilko's performance was fantastic, but like comparing apples and oranges.
Dr. Feelgood? I'd forgotten all about them.
