That accent you’re hearing is South African, although I live in London and have an English father, but I was born and grew up in South Africa. Glad you enjoyed the video, I hope my interpretation of a Welsh Rarebit will help you in your class. My grandmother used to make this for us as kids, so it’s been in the family forever. Enjoy!

I've got to make this again. I used to make it, with milk in the sauce though, for my little sons 30 years ago. I have never like grilled cheese sandwiches but Welsh Rarebit , he'll yes. Also buttered toasted rye bread with thin slices of Xtra sharp cheddar covering each slice then thin slices of tomato on top. Throw under a broiler til bubbly yummm

Definitely don’t import anything, any beer will work. Preferably an ale, lager or pilsner. I wouldn’t use a stout or a porter etc. good luck! Thanks for watching
I like english muffins. And I add some bacon. Along with that, I’ve even added some steamed broccoli florets and chopped cherry tomatoes. Stoffer’s makes it, but they quit selling it in Texas. I’ve been craving it for years. I’ve looked at several people’s recipes for this and your’s looks like the best. So, gonna make it and I’ll get back to you! 🤞🏼
One tip to make it even better is to add a little marmite to the bread and butter before you put it in the oven! That extra boost of salty umami brings the dish to a whole new level ^w^ Edit: you can also use vegimite if you can’t get marmite in your area :)

And if you brown the butter and flour a little more, then add milk and pepper (black if you want to warn people or white if you want to surprise them :) ) you have the base for Southern (U.S.) peppered/spicy milk/white/country gravy. Great on American biscuits (or any soft white country bread or dinner rolls) as is, or you can start adding things (drippings from cooked bacon or ham steaks (UK/IR/CN/US), browned breakfast sausage scrumbles, crumbled or finely diced cooked bacon/ham) Fun fact! Southern (U.S.) Red-Eye Gravy is made with the drippings of cooked ham steaks mixed black coffee to deglaze the pan, then simmered till dark and thick, (some add a little flour to make roux to make thicker) Serve on side with ham steaks and biscuits(U.S.) and pour over to desired heart attack level. Regarding the beer, use a porter or stout. I make mine with Guneses. I don't need the whole pint so it gives me an excuse for not wasting the extra. 🙂
