    That speech at the end of the first part was fantastic; really striking, even for someone of my mono-materialist bent. Made me think.
    I suppose the agnostic-atheist response would be something like:
    "If there is no objective standard of dignity & worth, no problem! -it must then be that one's own judgement is as good a yardstick as any;
    "-so I can define my own success, and be just as fulfilled in achieving it (and to have such a choice is surely best)."
    -------------
    I admit I have difficulty with this. I look around and think "I hate myself and I will not be sorry to die; but... then there is nothing to ever set right all the hideous, unthinkable suffering of those innocents who have died in emotional and physical agony;-
    ...and all I was, all I did, all whom I loved, all those seconds and minutes and hours I struggled- _all_ was for *_nothing,_* and I shall be gone for ever."
    ...and so, I admit, I sometimes think "I sure hope there's more than this. I sure would be grateful if I got a do-over of my life, which I have ruined through my own stupid evil heart."
    -------------
    But- I don't count on it. The objections to religion noted by Dr. Qadhi are not really the basic ones. The most fundamental is not anything to do with the effects of religion, but rather just:
    *→* What reason to suppose one religion's veracity over another, or none?°
    -------------
    °(note: _ideas like "look how perfectly we're fit to life here" are sort of like saying "look how perfectly that puddle's water fits its basin" - in other words: if air were not abundant, we wouldn't expect to have evolved to use it, and vice versa.)_
    -------------
    I'm trying to learn Arabic, though, so perhaps I will be able to see the miracle of the Qur'an I hear about. I certainly really, really enjoy the study of the language (and also my cat, although initially a bit concerned by them, now _loves_ Qur'an recitations, for some reason... so I end up playing them for both of us a lot...).
    Dr. Qadhi has convinced me that there is much more to Islam than I ever thought before - for that, I'm grateful, even if I remain unconvinced in the end.
    (Thanks for that, Dr. Q. 👊)

    Good speech, but the narrative still didn’t address the root cause of why we need religion in our lives from a purpose of answering the existential questions about reality.
