Agreed, I’m taking a step back from buying fragrances. I bought quite a few during the holidays. Mostly backups of my favorites that are hard to find now or discontinued. It’s time to take a break from buying fragrances. Maybe stick to buying on anniversary’s , birthdays , Mother’s Day etc…

ah, dang it. i really had been hoping this would finally a more intense version of the OG again. I had bought the OG right when it was first released and it was SO sweet and intense and intoxicating. As I have a lot of perfumes, however, it took me 2-3 years to use up my bottle and when I wanted to repurchase it I found to my dismay that it had already been reformulated to a weaker version and I decided against a purchase. I've had samples of all the flankers, and albeit nice I still found them shallow and weak as compared to that first 'wow' moment of the very 1st release. I really had my hopes up for this one. But looks like you've saved me from another disappointing purchase.
I like vanilla a lot, and I do have a lot of vanilla heavy fragrances, but if vanilla, then I want it to have some oomph
This mini is adorable and sounds pretty but, it’s really time for YSL to come up with something else LOL!
It's true these designer brands find a hot perfume, and then just go crazy with the flankers. It's all so over kill! And not that I haven't enjoyed flankers, but after a couple I wish theyd just move on. It gets overwhelming when you see a perfume has 15 flankers. But of course its cheaper for thrm to do it this way. So they'll keep doing it as long as people show interest.
I agree that prices are getting really high, even on items which used to be very affordable. 2 of the Britney Spears perfumes are in the hundreds now - I did find Serge Lutens for a fantastic price on the grey market and will continue to source out some scents I have on my wish list. I plan to create a more niche collection in 2023. So far what I have acquired is great - especially the animolic and crazy Francesca Bianchi I just bought called Sex and the Sea. Its gorgeous. (but not for everyone)
That price increase is really freaking me out. I’m supposed to be on a buying hiatus, and I know at some point I will want some refills including my black opium extreme travel size. If I wait a year will it even be available and if so at what price. But I’m holding firm with my no buy - it’s only been 5 days of the year after all. 😂

I loved this video I was imagining the drink and I believe I could vividly see it so bravo to you. So glad you mention the price point shooting up. I am only buying 10ml's now because as a mom it is just hard to adjust to the prices of these scents.
Ahh yes 10mls usually is enough to last quite awhile :)
I’m happy the coffee takes a step back
I decided to buy a travel size from Sephora as soon as they had it. Agree that it is very like the OG upon opening, but to me the heavy vanilla dry down is 100% Kayali Vanilla 28. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but not what I’m looking for. I’ll probably grab a bottle of Extreme before it disappears. It was my favourite, but I found the performance left something to be desired.
I’d also love to hear your thoughts on Babycat as another commenter inquired. I’m so curious to try it, but in rural Ontario, I have no where to sample it in person, and I haven’t seen it available as a decant from my usual online sample sources. I won’t blind buy it at the price point it has😬
Scent split has Babycat for samples.
My favorite is Extreme but I don't own it because I probably won't be able to wear it very often. I should have bought the travel size when I saw it at Sephora earlier in the year but it was blazing hot outside and my brain couldn't process buying such a heavy scent at the time. Now I'm kicking myself because it seems to be sold out everywhere.
My goodness. It’s sort of disappointing considering the price point of the le parfum version that it would be heavier and project. I do think ysl does vanilla very well in their perfumes and it’s still something I’d like to try.
Thank you for the honest review. I recently bought the OG Black Opium, it's nice but the longevity is lacking IMHO. If I try another BO it will be Black Opium Extreme.
Black opium becomes nothing after 3-4 hours. Such a shame because off the first spray you get potential powerhouse vibes😭
I recently purchased a black opium oil to see if that might make it last longer...we shall see🤷🏻♀️

Hmmm, it sounds like it’s a good one but from the description, I think I still would like my extreme version better, I like the coffee to be stronger.

Btw I got Shalimar Tonka like I told you before and I LOVE it!!!! Omg it's everything I wanted original Shalimar to be. So glad I was able to get a decant. I'm also loving Remember Me by Jovoy Paris. So freaking good!!! (I'm assuming you've tried it since it has milk, tea, cardamom and vanilla. Lol) In addition to those I'm liking Unknown Pleasures and Heliotrope by Etro too. Not so sure yet about Side Effect or Love Extreme. (I think I like Love Don't be Shy better. But I need to test more. Anyway thanks for the Shalimar Tonka recommendation! Such a phenomenal fragrance. 😊👌

I have few perfumes that I never wear outside my house because they are either too strong, too flowery, too sweet or too much and Black opium is one of them. I still wear it sometimes just because every perfume need to be worn 😄

I looooooove so much the le parfum, soooo sexy date night. I get so many compliments on this new version❤my fav of all Opium
I love black opium but I hate that the performance isn’t good and it doesn’t last on my skin/clothes. Le parfum smells so good when you spray it but then it changes and become just vainilla, the mysterious smell that you get when you spray it disappears fast.
Le Parfum will be my first black opium!! It’s absolutely delicious 🤤 it’ll be awesome for summer nights

I tried a sample of this thinking I would love it. I found the dry down to smell exactly like hypnotic poison’s dry down on me. Sine I already have hypnotic poison, I’ll skip this one

I was curious about this one too, I almost blind bought it, then I heard Babycat was discontinued which ended up being a fake rumour, but in my rush I went to the YSL shop to smell Babycat. Of course I ended up buying a bottle of it and they didn’t have the 75ml anymore so I had to getbthe 125ml. I even forgot to smell the black opium le parfum 😂. Now I have a hole in the budget need to save up my pennies. Glad I heard your reviews about it. Black opium extreme is my fav out of all of them , too. Curious if tou got to smell Babycay what do you think about it?

I really like this one, but I can barely smell it after a couple hours.
Can you please do a review for good perfumes in south africa. I cannot find anything I like. I used to be a Lolita lempika girl. Love vanilla, but don't like coffee and chocolate notes. Lolita was heavy, lingering and fresh at the same time. How do I find something to give that same feeling

The original opium not the black one just the original is lovely and lasts a long time. I got it on eBay
I hate too much vanilla in a perfume. Passing on this one. I want a strong coffee scent, not boring vanilla. 🤗

Well that sounds a bit disappointing. I guess I actually want extreme but even more extreme on the coffee 😆
‘Black Opium L’eau’ should have been a better name. It is really a skinscent, no silage at all… To me is smells a lot like Jessica Simpson Fancy.
