    We all make mistakes, what's 1 you made starting off?

      Listening to people who don't really have any experience in Filmmaking or Photography.

    Saving for the good gear you actually want is some of the best advice, I use to switch around cameras all the time instead of saving up for that 5D.

    One thing I'm getting into the habit of doing as a beginner creator, is looking back at my previous work and actually jotting down things that I can improve on. That way, when you're making your next video, you won't commit the same mistake twice!

    One of my mistakes was learning all the technical knowledge without practicing the craft enough, if that makes sense.

  • @colinthecameraguy
    @colinthecameraguy 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I agree with what you said. Occasionally there are cheaper alternatives that will do just fine but only if it’s something you’re not expecting to use often (like a just in case piece)!
    I also strongly recommend learning your camera; these modern mirrorless cameras have so many tricks up their sleeves but if you don’t practice or remind yourself which function button you assigned it to then it will really mess up your flow when you wanna use that trick (on a shoot) but you can’t remember where it’s at 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

    Don't be quick to jump around gear. Get one camera, one lens, and learn it like the back of your hand before you go off trying to buy new, cooler gear. Solid video Ryan, I appreciate you!

  • @JusttJC
    @JusttJC 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    100% with that first one, worst thing about buying cheap gear is when you really how crap it really is, you can rarely return or sell it, so you just end up with junk you can’t use and have to buy the better one anyway

    • @JusttJC
      @JusttJC 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      How I got over this was to stop looking up gear I saw other people using but actually start buying gear based on my problems when i’m shooting, eg I was shooting a lot of stuff in day light and couldn’t see my LCD on the camera, so I then got a monitor

    Great points, brother. I remember buying a 1DXMkii last January because I thought i was ready but quickly realized it was way above my weight class and had to take a step back to master the basics first. I think when we see others using great gear, we think it’s going to make us better when sometimes, we have to have the basics down to even benefit from that kind of gear in the first place.

  • @StokesEntProductions

    Definitely would say not knowing about aperture , buying a cheap monopod without feet, and lack of efficient preproduction were 3 mistakes from the early days!

    Your vid quality is always A1. My biggest mistake was not taking the time to learn everything i needed to when it came to colorgrading 2 years ago

    Buy good gear used for cheap! That's the way I do it currently since I'm not ballin. But make sure you get to test the stuff before you hand over the cash or make sure the seller has a reliable reputation

    Dope vid... The only thing is that 17-40mm has no stabilization, i cant see myself vlogging with that. I rather pull up with that RF 24-105mm f4.
    I feel like that 17-40mm is pefect for small apartments like I live in, nice locked on shots.

    i know you've done lighting videos in the past but can we get an in-depth lighting tutorial for beginners who might not have lights or very few, personally i run 2 440 led panel lights with a softbox, have the younguo 360 led stick and a couple small on camera led panels. Been struggling with coming up with creative ideas for lighting, especially when shooting outdoors at night
