The ultimate job of a drummer is to keep the rhythm section of band at a good level! To be able to do that at the speed of Eddie's playing style is unmatched! Alex with his double bass drums which has carried over and influenced other great drummers in later yrs speaks for itself!!
I read in interview that he gave one time that, when he was a teen, he was a Led concert and he snuck underneath the stage and got to see Bonham from behind as he played his kit. Alex noticed the Ludwig Speedking pedal and that his foot was at a 45 degree angle. Amazing what you pick up when you're young.

Alex is under-rated as a drummer. He has his unique style which you can clearly hear when he plays live (even on the albums). A guitarist can play by ear, Alex does the same with drumming, throwing in complicated off beats to suit the song when you least expected it. His signature sound really separates him from all the rest. And I feel he is better than peart,j(and everyone else) just in the way he has total control over his cymbals,and he's not afraid to hit them,or the rest of his kit....

Actually Alex does play double kick on 'Hot For Teacher'. There's a small period of overdubs at the beginning but after it breaks into the main line, the drums are 100% played. Have you ever listened to the track 'Pleasure Dome'? Probably Alex's finest performance on a Van Halen record.
That was so cool. Makes me wanna start up a hair metal band! But seriously, those bass drums are incredibly deep and his solos were totally tribal, dig it. I'm a drummer so I'm saying, don't underestimate the shit Alex is doing here. This guy is very talented.

This is one of the more underrated performers in Rock history. Hopelessly overshadowed by his brother and Dave,he didn't stand a chance of getting his due.But Alex is an all time great drummer.
I have a picture from this show in New Orleans! The people sitting behind us had a 35 millimeter camera and they dropped the film and my brother grabbed it. I took it to a one hour photo lab in the Bel Air Mall in Mobile Alabama the next day. I would post it but I don’t know how
