I grew up in Pismo Beach, Calif.. the Central Coast...for a few years in Jr High we did live in L.A area...When I was 17 and had already graduated High School all I wanted to do was see what was over each and every mountain.. I was Adventitious.. I figured home in Calif would always be there to come back to...boy was I wrong...I traveled and saw 46 of the 50 US States, lived in 16 different states for a time, from the Florida Keys to Northern Minnesota, from Washington State to Columbus, Ohio...but I wanted to go home, to walk the beaches and have great seafood again...When I drove back to Calif. the traffic was the worst, people seemed so rude, the seafood was not good and was made from frozen. worst of all my beautiful natural coastal town now had tons of concrete and neon figures.. they had made my once beautiful community now look like L.A. or Disneyland..Million dollar Mansions lined the cliffs overlooking the Ocean...so expensive I couldn't afford to live their, the rich retired people had moved their from Frisco and L.A and took over. Only thing I miss is my grand children.. I now live in southern Oregon...I paid $69,000 for my home on 3.5 acres, just 5 yes ago. .Get out of Cali while u still can...Classy
Try Erie, PA. 100k people, basic restaurants and shopping but not too peopley. Close enough to Cleveland, Buffalo, Pittsburgh and even Toronto to get your big city fix when needed, affordable cost of living, mostly very nice people. Four seasons, beautiful surrounding countryside, lots of options for day trips, dog friendly. We moved here three years ago before Covid and were surprised to realize that stats aren't everything. It hasn't really caught on with the migrators yet but has lots of potential.
You are more of a desert person I'm more of a forest person. That same quiet privacy is also really nice when you are surrounded by lots of trees wrapping you into a sweet little cocoon of quiet.
Plus..it's SUPER hot here in summer and windy and sand blowing in fall and winter..can't grow anything but cactus without an astronomical water bill. Not worth it
A great area out in the country in California is near Redding, the Shasta area. You should check that area. It's really pretty too. And cheaper than LA

The thing about Joshua tree is you do have a lot of things that are relatively close within 40 minutes of Palm Springs, so is there is a lot of activity if you desire it but then you also have the quiet. You definitely have to choose where to live in either Joshua tree or Yucca Valley. I personally prefer Yucca Valley we don't live there. We do go up sometimes for a week or two at a time. That's not a weekend that's a week or two. We have a place in the hills above the valley and it's not nearly as secluded as the place you stayed in. When I was just a kid, we would go to my grandmother's place in Joshua tree, which was way out. My earliest memories there we had no electricity and we never had city water. But that area does now. And at that time, of course, a real outhouse made of wood with a big hole dug in the ground. That was 60 years ago. We had a big tank for water. My grandfather with an engineer and build a small generator so that we would have electric light, but I remember them having Coleman lanterns inside the little cabin. Set my my best memories are there.

Hey girl...I grew up her..it SUCKS!!! NOTHING to do...lots of drugs and boredom..crime becoming an issue...ALL THE LA peeps have bought up properties and driven up prices for us locals but flood the town on weekends..it's not built for traffic here...1 HWY!!! it didn't used to be the artsy-fartsy crystal place it is now..now it hipsters..psychics..weirdos...I never loved it here..but now I HATE IT!!! Nothing weird jumps out at you from the bushes tho..maybe a rattlesnake..but..that's kinda changing too
You went to the Los Angeles of Texas, the You totally missed the idea of Texas being a billion times better than n LA, and yes I was born and raised in LA, and I currently live in Texas and have lived here since 2013 and would NEVER LEAVE. Don't get me wrong, I have lived other places in the country but Texas is the best. What is Interesting tome is WHY would you chose to go to Dallas of all places for a culture shock chose a place that is not almost EXACTLY like the place you are coming from? I love Texas if I should miss the comforts of home I could visit a place like Dallas and then return to my peace and quite. You missed a true BIG SKY living experience. I loved your videos and wish you many enjoyable traveling experiences, and your forever home journeys.
