- Today I’m creating a simple DIY sewing tool that is going to help keep my dressmaker sewing pins in place.
DIY magnetic pin holders are super easy to make and really inexpensive compared to the modern day magnetic pin cushions (depending on materials used of course:)

Magnets: amzn.to/3w3BZwg
Check your local antique store, vintage shops and thrift stores for plates that have a slightly raised bottom so its easy to apply the magnets.
You can find the most gorgeous dishes for re-purposing in your sewing space with just a bit of digging around.
This is quite a simple project I know, but I was in need of a pin plate to keep near my dress form. The standard modern magnetic pin holder keeps hold of the pins so tightly that it makes it difficult to get the pins apart and remove them. This plate worked out perfectly.

Great idea! I wish I had seen this video before buying the $$$$$ one I have now. Thank you.
Believe me I wished I would have thought of it before I bought mine as well
Beautiful to look at and nice to hold your pins.
Thank you
What a beautiful, practical, easy project!!!
Mine will be used for small thinker dies.
Thank you!!
thank you
could I also use a plastic container to do the same thing, or a corell saucer or plate?
Well done!

Good for nails and screws, too
And hair pins! I keep one In my bathroom for all my bobby-pins :)
That is so clever! 😲 Love your perky music and voiceover, super cute and well done video, friend! ❤️
Thanks friend
I love this idea. It is so pretty and functional. I saw the other magnets mentioned, neodymium. Do you know if they all come with the adhesive? And would the adhesive be strong enough to hold onto the plate? Thank you for your advise.
None of the magnets I have ever bought come with adhesive (sadly). The neodymium magnets are so strong that when I attempted to glue them down they still managed to pull and would stick (lengthwise) to each other. So my guess is that if you want to use those types of magnets you can just glue one piece on at a time . They are super strong and really hard to pull apart.
@@homemadeonourhomestead Thank you!
If, by chance, you don't want to ruin a vintage plate with permanent glue, you can tape the same magnets on the bottom! Also neodymium magnets work better because they are smaller and have a stronger magnetizm
Yes the tape is a good idea. I do have those magnets as well. However when I tried to actually do this project before using those style of magnets, I had a difficult time getting the magnets to not try and stick to each other. Maybe only gluing one set at a time would help?
Hmm...
@@homemadeonourhomestead yes, one at a time lol they are very potent
Thank you, love the idea.
You are so welcome!
