next time you guys should take the yaks out to crowley. There are a few roads off Benton crossing rd that take you to green banks/north landing where you can launch right off the shore to some good water. You can't camp right on the lake in that area, but there is good BLM all along Benton crossing. There are some very crowded hot springs too. Fish midges just off the bottom under an indicator
I have camped and fish Convict Lake as well as Convict Creek which flows down to Lake Crowley. They said in the video that they were not sure if there were Brown Trout in Convict Lake. There are! I caught a 5 lb Brown there as well as smaller Browns in Convict Creek.
I fished the Owens two weeks ago for one day. Caught two small browns. I did not like the water. Too much cow poop. Will not be back there. I fished the Truckee near the Hirschdale RD exit on the way home. Much nicer water. No fish but one bite that broke my tippet. New sub here. I am retired in Mendocino County. If you ever need a partner, I have a 4 x 4 Silverado, a kayak, and have been wetting fly lines 40+ years. Blessings.
I have a similar stainless steel fire pit that I use pellets in. The advantage is the clean up which is almost none after the fire burns out. You haven't lived until you surf your kayak back to the boat ramp at Convict during the late afternoon winds! Cowabunga dude!
@@flyfisher530 forgot to add that a long time ago, after using the fish cleaning station at Convict, we got a visit by baby and mama bear! Someone rang the dinner bell!
Great video! Thanks. Convict is where we stay. Most of our fishing is at the Upper Owens that you were showing. If you go in the fall you can usually drive all the way in. Fish average 2 lb. There are some bigger ones also. Convict does have browns and cutthroat along with rainbow. Best fishing is at the inlet. Caught a 7 lb. Rainbow on 4lb. test. What a ride. My buddy caught a 5 lb. Brown. There are trips though where we hardly get a bite. Convict Lake is fisherman's heaven.
Yes thanks for the comments! In my "Part 2 - Mammoth Lakes & the Upper Owens" video about a year ago I caught a nice Cuttthroat...not huge but decent. It can be hit or miss but I really don't care, the location makes up for it - same for Convict Lake!
My brother and I went to Benton Crossing to fish the upper Owen’s river and there were thousands of mosquitoes. They chased us out of there. I went there about 5 years ago to try it again and no mosquito’s. I guess it’s kinda touch and go around there.
Silver Lake, which is in the June Lake loop is another gorgeous lake that you should check out. The campground is nice with sites that are so close to the lake that we walk our kayaks across the road.
Convict lake is gorgeous like you said!! Looked like a fun trip for sure. Sometimes it is well worth getting a normal pay camp site to be close or on your target area
This was a great video Michael. Enjoyed watching it with my daughter this morning. Haven’t camped at Convict lake for many years but this sure made me want to go back.
OMG! That’s Shawn! Stylist of the Seas he’s an Aptos institution. Well done indeed on all the great video and production. Fly fishing at the end is super neat. All the best to y’all on future expeditions. Blue skies and tight lines.
Thanks Brian!!! Yeah Shawn is one good guy if you discount how long he takes to get ready to go fishing! Or how many things he loses along the way. Or how many times he breaks something. But yeah it was a fun trip!! 👍
Thank you for sharing! Silver Lake is a long generational vacation spot. In fact my daddies ashes were sprinkled in the stream that runs into Silver Lake. It’s been years since I’ve been there but want to go back. I enjoyed your video as I remembered many great times. Just some fyi’s those trees in Silver Lake are always there in water. Also, Walter Lance owned a cabin there on Silver Lake. 😊
Alucab has load bars for top of the tent. A canoe would be possible but keep in mind if makes opening tent difficult. I went with a 55 lb kayak which was at my limit for lifting the tent. Thanks for watching!
My Alucab rooftop tent has the option for standard vehicle type roof racks to be installed on top of the tent (made by Alucab). My kayak is just strapped down to those load bars. Shawn is similar, I think he had Yakima racks for his kayak. My rig walk-around video has more information.

Thanks for the info! We fished Crowley a couple of years ago, I definitely will go back again soon!

Yeah you can see in the video the small browns I caught...was hoping for much bigger, maybe next time!!!

You're living the dream, Mike!
Thanks Victor let's get together soon buddy!
@flyfisher530 hey brother, the summer just started! Let's plan something after OE PNW.
Definately better than any day at the office!

Yes agree 100% on minimal ashes in the fire pit! And yes had a surf session at Twin Lakes last year LOL!

@@2-old-Forthischet Yeah that can be just a tad intimidating!
YESSSSS, this was so awesome! Love it - and man, I’ve got to get back out there soon!! 😊😊😊🎉🎉🎉👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
You bet Greg, OXPNW is not far away!

Yeah it’s hit or miss I think. It seems to be late Summer is better than early summer or springtime. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for the tip! I definitely want to explore more in that area!

Thanks Nick much appreciated!
Convict lake was my godfathers favorite place to fish at i hope to go fishing there one day
That is very cool! Thanks for watching!!!
Great video Mike looks like a lot of fun.
Thanks Neville it is a beautiful lake!
Amazing
What a beautiful spot! I’ve been past this a few times, and never stopped next time I will!
Yeah Ian it is a great place to visit, with a restaurant and bar also!
This was a great video Michael. Enjoyed watching it with my daughter this morning. Haven’t camped at Convict lake for many years but this sure made me want to go back.
Thank you very much. It definitely is one of the prettiest lakes in the Sierras!
I've always liked convict lake
Yes it’s definitely one of my favorites! 👍
Can one fly a drone near the Owens River? I love how that river twists and turns almost constantly. Even without catching fish, gorgeous area!
Based on the Air Control app it is ok to fly a drone where I was located. You have to pay attention where you are however. Thanks for watching!

Mike I also have the same tent. Could one mount a canoe on top? Curious as I see you have a kayak up there. How did you mount it?
Alucab has load bars for top of the tent. A canoe would be possible but keep in mind if makes opening tent difficult. I went with a 55 lb kayak which was at my limit for lifting the tent. Thanks for watching!
what kind of rack setup is that for the two kayaks?

What is the cooking thing called?
Tembo Tusk Skottle I think is what you are referring to. Thanks for watching!
What part of granite do u work for?
