Confession of sins is mentioned throughout the Scriptures and practiced by the Orthodox Church. But is a priest really necessary for this practice? What happens if he withholds forgiveness? Did God really give that kind of authority to sinful clergy? Can’t we just confess alone to God at home? Why confess at all, if God knows our thoughts? Join Fr. Stephen De Young and Fr. Andrew Stephen Damick as they continue their series on the sacraments of the Orthodox Church.

This is the beginning of AF offering TH-cam-generated Closed Captioning as a response to our deaf/hard-of-hearing brothers and sisters. Click on "CC" in the bar above to turn it on. It won't be 100%, but it's a beginning. Thank you. 🦇Please LIKE, SUBSCRIBE and leave a COMMENT on how you like this new visual style for LOS podcast on YT. Thank you! 😊

Three halves = three half hours

This show is nearly three full hours long.
The whole thing about "the third half of the show" is a call-back to the old 'Car Talk' program on NPR.

    hey guys,
thanks for the episode soo my question is... any maybe I missed it and u can point me the right way or maybe I got confused. but why did christ have to die? I've always under stood that he had to die in our place because we deserve death due to not being clean there for we could never be in God's presence

Blood payment for sins, he became the sacrifice. The scapegoat so Jews don’t have to preform the scapegoat ritual.

I believe you might find their episode on Atonement helpful. I think it is episode 13.

What sins was Jesus punished for? Lutheran say: ALL of them! For the sins of all time and all people. The fact that you didn't know that answer is telling! I could go on about a LOT of about your snickers and assertions about those who think differently - but I fear that might be rather silly. I don't mean to burst your little bubble here, dear brothers in Christ, but I would have a lot more respect for you if you actually brought a good Lutheran theologian in to help you discuss these issues in depth. Maybe you have otherwise? I can't say since I just came across this channel. The thing is, I was really eager to hear what YOU had to say about what it means for you that Jesus is your savior. But frankly, I got so tired of your complaining that I ran out of patience waiting!
