Fr. Stephen De Young gave a talk on October 5th, 2023 at Christ the Saviour Orthodox Cathedral entitled: "That Old Black Magic: Witchcraft and Idolatry Vs. Orthodox Christianity."
15 seconds in and thought, wow Fr. Stephen is standing extremely still! lol
His ascetic practice is impeccable
I thought I could see his mouth moving
I didn’t notice till half way.. through pt 2..😂
Lol, at least I wasn't the only one
27 mins in and he still is!
God has really helped me through Father Stephen's work.
Me too! There were tragic moments in my orthodox walk when I lost my faith because of misunderstandings and false notions. His teaching clarified many things for me, restoring my belief and getting me back to the Holy Orthodox Church where I belong.
You helped yourself god is a device of the weak mind
@@ndeepowder That's why you are here?
@@costealucia5357 I am here to listen and see what I think about it. Sounds like the same old song and dance onr true God BS, Jesus is an idea and a bad idea at that. Moses never existed at all either mankind creates God's and the evolve just like we do.
@@ndeepowderappreciate you taking the time to listen. God keep you and have a great day
This was an amazing conference Fr.Lucas! Thanks for putting this together ☦️
Wonderful words from Fr. Stephen, as always
Fr. DeYoung (deadpan): “Spoilers.. Ima gittem“
Good stuff.
People are against worshipping angels and saints, but have no problem with worshipping themselves and society under the high priesthood of psychology. 🤔 How curious.
Based what he was saying had a feeling Fr DeYoung would mention Anthropologist Andrew Lang.
very interesting perspective. i'm 12 mins in, and i broadly agree with what's being said.
couple points of contention:
1.) the spiritual and the material need not be so dialectically opposed. even in your own tradition, spirit begets matter. why should these things be artificially seperated X amount of years later? jesus clearly viewed the body as something spiritual.. otherwise he would have come back as a ghost of some sort.
2.) the key word in campbell is "watered down." jung himself is also watered down... he's a watered down alchemist. the term "watered down" or "diluted" is an alchemical term, pointing in a direction. the opposite direction of "watering down" is "boiling down" or "distilling." if you distill from campbell, through jung, and you find something that gets MORE truth, then you have a kind of spiritual physics. i've always found that when you dig into the archetypes, you get MORE information, not less. it's much like digging into the bible. it's hyperlinked.
as an aside, if you want to reconcile hinduism and christianity, the key is in alchemy.
3.) your conflation of the labors of hercules and the gospel narrative is a common one, but not one that serious archetypal thinkers think much about. while it's true that they share the broad narrative arc of the "culture hero," hercules represents ideals of a more... herculean time. the notion of forgiveness and cooperation as conquering virtues is a complex topic. it's one we still struggle with balancing. let's not blame the greeks for valuing strength. if present trends continue, we may be going back to that soon.
i'm a fan of your work so far :) brilliant stuff.
Thinking Jesus came back as a ghost is like one the first heresies. The dogma is he has a material body after the resurrection.
🤔 💭. Interesting thought process. Let me digest this and I'll get back to you. I study Jungian Psychology and understand the Archetypes. I see them in my own life. So, let me digest this.

Lmbo same
Gnosticism is more "as things are experienced" instead of "as they were tested" Jung was highly intelligent and necessary. Most good faithful orthodox wouldn't usually be able to study his works in a way to be understood and walking between orthodoxy and deep jungian circles could risk mental health in some as they are polar opposites. Gnosticism is simply closer to what they were converted from than christian thought.
You haven't suffered from psychology have you?
Go read some Saint Sophrony
What a strange comment section this turned out to be.
37:25 "they worshipped angels INSTEAD of God." Hmmmm, even WORSE to worship saints instead of God, as they aren't even angels.
Saints are not worshipped, that's common knowledge you don't seem to grasp
They’re actually higher than the angels, but they’re still not worshipped. So you get it even less than the other guy points out
@@Ortho_Clips I understand fine. You're assuming a lot for one sentence. I didn't expand on anything, I simply stated saints are not worshipped. Sorry, not your gotcha moment today.
Protestants: "You WORSHIP Saints!"
Also Protestants: " ZIONIST ISRAEL IS OUR GREATEST ALLY! WE MUST SUPPORT THEM! OH MY HECKIN MY PASTOR JUST RELEASED HIS BOOK SERIES I MUST TITHE FOR MORE MORE BLESSINGS!!!"
Lol, just so blind, unreal 😂😂😂
