Cheers for this mate. I live in a wee flat in a dense bloody tenement building here in Glasgow. So you saved me grief with the neighbours.

Great ideas! I use my banjo in hospice way more than I expected but would love a mellower tone

I’ve just finished with my late night practise with an 8x8 inch cotton rag stuffed btn the bridge and tail piece. It worked to dampen the sound. I opened the YT and ‘bam’! Got here😀Great video and saves me a lot more.

    Great vid.
I like the way that the bridge mute doesn't just lower the volume, but also changes the tone from Blue Grass to a kinda Blues sound.
Does anybody else think that or is it just me?

      Many thanks for your reply.
May I ask how long for and how many days per week should a new player practice? How often and long do you practice?
I recently bought a Fender FB300 Sunburst Orange banjo second hand in a bit of a sad condition. With help from TH-cam I stripped it, cleaned it, rebuilt it, replaced the garbage strings with D'Addario Medium strings and broken tuning machines (garbage stock) with nice well priced good quality sealed machines, then adjusted and tuned it.
I ditched the old rotten gig bad for a nice fabric lined hard case.
All done on a super tight Student budget.
It is a beautiful and nice sounding banjo now.
May I ask what make and model you play?
      Regards, Jas.

The best thing iv ran across to stop overtones on the claw hammer open back banjo is bubble wrap.

Thank you so much! The testing licks that I did was just a riff that I made up. The song toward the end is The Great Remember by Steve Martin. Thanks again!

Learning to play softly is an important skill. I never did care for the stuffing of rags in my banjo.

I would like to know where you purchased the corrugated foam rubber pad. I can’t find anywhere like it. I want to try only the pad it looked good and sounded good. Thanks

You know, I believe that came in some package when I had purchased an item from that company. And I can’t even remember! Sorry. But it has to be available somewhere. Idea: Set summertime is here, go to Walmart and buy a swimming noodle. That would work great. Good luck!

Thanks for responding I found swimming noodles way too stiff to use. I’ll check with packing materials and see what I can find. Really enjoy your tell it like it is teaching style. Keep helping us play and enjoy the banjo!!!

The metal mute is too much and it sounds okay if you only put it half way on there but then you have a weird piece of metal hanging off the bridge. I've got a little hair clip I stole from my daughter that I've been clipping on there. Tones it down a bit on the high end but still lets the sound ring. Other than that I just ball up a sock and do the thing you did with the pool noodle.

Any tips on taking years off my marriage?

    • @vance7274
      @vance7274 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Don't know how to take years off, but here is how to end one quick. Get a Stelling banjo set up with a hard maple bridge, some nickel silver finger picks, and play "Cripple Creek" over and over. Guarantees a "no contest" $399.00 divorce. She will throw you out with the dog.
