    Fantastic looking bike. Love the old school polished rims and natural sidewall tires. Would like a Brooks sadle on it.

    Sweet build and video going over all the details. I want a bike just like that. Love the simplicity and super clean look!

    Looks great! Love the tan sidewalls! Have the Ardents on my 29er and they are great. Hoping to track down a Krampus frame to build and add to my Surly fatbike family.

    Sick bike. Love the BMX old school feel. The saddle is cool but doesn't fit the build. Very nice none the less.

    Very very nice bike ... how hard is it to get the disk brakes set up properly with the horizontal drop outs on single speed? Would not be a pain to get everything set up again once you have to remove the rear wheel?

    • @trentmbell
      @trentmbell  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not too bad. After setting it the first time, I haven't had to make any adjustments to the brakes. I have taken the wheel off a handful of times, so I guess I either put it back close enough to the original location...or my brake calipers aren't optimally set. :) No issues for me, and I love the versatility if I want to change it up.

    It’s a bit of a pain, but the white decals would look awesome on that build.

    • @trentmbell
      @trentmbell  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kyle, that's a great idea! How do you remove the old ones without messing up the paint/clear coat?

    • @kylea2862
      @kylea2862 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@trentmbell I believe the frame is powder coated. I used a hairdryer to soften the adhesive, my fingernail to scrape the stickers of and Rosonol lighter fluid to clean off the residue. I didn’t notice anything different with the finish, but you could email Surly and see what they say.

    Hey really nice build! What was the final weight on it? And when you say Surly "frameset", that means they sent you the frame with the rigid fork already installed correct? Thanks mate! I'm definitely considering building one of these up, I kinda want to have two bikes in one- a hardtail, and a touring bike at the same time!

    • @trentmbell
      @trentmbell  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Blake, thanks a lot! I don't recall the exact weight, but I'll try to get that for you. When you buy the frameset, you get the frame and the fork, but you still have to buy a headset and install the fork yourself. I bought and installed the White Industries headset. You'll need the ZS44/ES44 headset with a 1 1/8" crown race (avt.bike/collections/white-industries-headsets/products/white-industries-ec44-ec44-external-headset). You could also go with Cane Creek as another good and more economical option (canecreek.com/headsets-category/). From the Surly Karate Monkey webpage specs, you'll need to have these numbers: Stock Headset Upper (S.H.I.S): ZS44/28.6; Stock Headset Lower (S.H.I.S): EC44/30. Also, you might need a few spacers depending on how high you want your handlebars.

    the rekon 2.6" gumwall is killer on rigid 29er's... I run that in front with 2.4 ardent in the rear. the onlyy downside is the 2.6 sidewall is brown, not tan.

    Great build! I'm trying to track down a KM frame myself. Are you using a 3/32" chain with the Surly cog and W.I. chain ring? BTW also from GR!

    The KM’s seat tube is already way slack for climbing.. lay back post makes it exponentially more difficult to climb.. slick post but this is one time function over form with a straight post.

    • @trentmbell
      @trentmbell  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s a good observation, but I think the bike climbs really well for me. It’s probably because I’m running single speed, so I’m up off the seat most of the time while climbing. 😊

    How is it ride? What size is that? M?

    • @trentmbell
      @trentmbell  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is a size Large. The ride is great! I was riding an older Salsa Beargrease before with 26x4" wheels, so I'm getting used to the handling of 29ers. The bike accelerates and rolls really well. I'm still making adjustments to handlebars, brake levers, saddle, and tire pressure. I've found that the tire pressure with these 2.4" Ardents is key. Running 18 lbs in the front and 20 lbs in the rear seems to be the sweet spot for me personally. It's an awesome steel bike with tons of versatility. #surlybikes

    Does it runs fast?

    • @trentmbell
      @trentmbell  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes! It’s not the lightest bike, but it still climbs really well and the 29ers roll great! It feels like each pedal stroke is really efficient! The hope pro 4 hub helps.
