For anyone worried about the whistles sounding the same (i can't confirm this for the air horns yet) that's just the default whistle. There are a lot of different whistles you can choose from to throw on your locomotives.
So we can have the 10 wheeler have Sierra Railroad 3's whistle?!
@@shadow-va-dktgm Yes and no. You can give the Ten-Wheeler similar 5 Chimes, but there's currently no Lima 5 Chime in the game yet.
Sounds like all the steam engines use the same audio files and are defaulted to the same whistles. Looks fantastic for a beta of an EA game. Hope they add some diversity to the sounds of the trains.
They do have different whistles if you go look at Hyce's stream that he did last night you have to customize that and set that for a different whistles
There are a lot of whistle options you can set, but this is the default as of when I recorded

I see that as I watch this video that it is 8 month old. I say this in Aug 2024. My son and I both have just recently purchased this and have been playing it in multi player. I am nearly 60, he is 33 and he lives 500 miles away. We have been completely addicted to it and have been having a blast playing it together online.

I just thought of something. There is a defined transition on the steam chuffs from the hard hitting low speed to the softer more flowing higher speed chuffs. I would like to request if the devs can overlap the transition maybe by 1 or 2 mph. That way it isn’t a defined exact switchover point between the two sound types. If possible, that would be awesome.

I love how you can fly switch but the locos are a little let down. Sounding like Hyce here, no boiler pressure, no fire, and whatnot.
It would be great if Smokebox from Dovetail's Railworks dumped them and worked on this game. His locos are great!

That's a pretty impressive selection of locomotives and more then enough for a progression system.
Great video. I'll have to check out all the passenger equipment later on. I think there is only 1 type of caboose. Very informative though and a good idea of the acceleration of each engine. 13 Days, I'll probably count down each one. Keep 'em coming everyone. The images alone were more of a tease than the videos. I find the videos help relax me and give me more to look forward to.
I think there are 3 types of caboose as of right now. There's a handful of different passenger cars. I realized in editing that I had forgotten to show a passenger train. Oops!

4:56 that one reminds me of Hammond‘s lumber Company number 17 of the Mount Rainier scenic Railroad she is an 85 ton settle tank built by Alco it’s interesting to know that her story involves a twist of fate that saved her from being scrapped when she was working for a Hammond lumber company at a reload site a fast moving forest fire destroyed track and a wooden trestle leaving her stranded in the woods since they couldn’t move her to the scrapyard she was abandoned in the forest in 1965 a rail enthusiast constructed a special road into the woods to reach number 17 she was tucked out piece by piece and went to work on a tourist road in California she was acquired by the Mount Rainier scenic Railroad in the 1980s and restored to operation in 1994

@@KerboOnYT yes indeed the Mount Rainier scenic Railroad has come back it’s now re-acquired by the original west coast forest industry Museum and it made a comeback by bringing back Polson logging company number 70 currently number 17 is out of service along with all four geared locomotives all are waiting extensive rebuild

Looks like a great addition to the railroad genre. I can't wait for the release in a few weeks.
That's a lot of rolling stock for an EA release. Hope the gameplay aspect can keep up so it will be fun to drive all of that round.
The gameplay is great. There is a lot of work to do on company mode once you get going with various contract options. You can also play in sandbox mode and do whatever you want by spawning in locos and cars.
Looking forward to this and seeing how it develops over time

The diesel sounds are extremely good. Hopefully some more will be added, like an RS3 for an earlier game diesel, and a later Geep, say a GP35 for a late game diesel. I'm also hoping that we can have some more customization for them, like the ability to make custom paint schemes, different horn options, and choosing whether we want a high or low hood. I'd personally go for a high hood, given that this is a simulation of a Southern Railway line, and also since I'm a huge SOU and NW fan.
Paint schemes would need nice. You can set the diesels to any color, but it's just one color for now.
That pacific with the feedwater heater tho!!! I can't wait!
6:45 I have 3 of these Engines in model form, the Shell Oil Company produced some die cast models based off of the 0-8-0 USAR Switcher.

@@KerboOnYT Three engines, two tenders (still looking for a third), four tank cars, and three cabooses (one of which is missing wheels and one truck). Hard to find online for sell, but surprisingly cheap given 1: it's a train model, and 2: they're around 30-40 years old. Paid around $100 for all the parts I have now, and am building my own set of tracks to display it on out of popsicle sticks.

Reading comments I see the. Same thing. I hope they’ll have different sounds for each engine, whistles bells, sounds of chuffing also hope they fix the sound change.. when it gets faster the file ends and starts abruptly should have a gradual change to make it blend nicely

I like the way the initial chuff and smoke ejection is great but why is it transitioning to seeming like it's running at full speed so quickly? All the steamers sound exactly the same which is not what I would expect.
It's an early build, so not everything is final. There will be improvements throughout early access, which begins December 15th
@@KerboOnYT probably not given that's two weeks away, hopefully they keep it stable, let it bed in until sometime in the new year, gather everyone's feedback then make decisions on where to go from the initial release
The chuffing sounds as of now are absolute horrible. They have to fix that. It looks like a game i want to try out though.
The game is a lot of fun if you like operations and logistics. The small details like chuffs and whistles can get sorted out

The chuffing sound switch at a certain speed is very annoying, they should just keep the first sound and let it just speed up as the wheels get faster instead of changing it mid run.

the locos all sound exactly the same even the diesels are the same looks like they only used 2 sound files one steam one diesel and no difference in whistles or chuffs etc lol
There are a lot of different whistles to choose from but I think they all spawn with one default. The game is a work in progress and not the final product
so about the EMD GP9 will it be changeable if you want the little front part to be a tall or a short hood

The diesels look a bit unfinished compared to the steam, but honestly that isnt a problem considering that the steam seems to be a lot more fun to operate. Overall I am extremely excited for this game to release.
The diesels need some polish but I'm sure that will come with time

Check the guide in the upper right of the screen for controls. Shift+T is spawn menu in sandbox mode

Possibly, but no solid plans yet that I know of. They're concentrating on the base game features and stability right now
Why does it say it's released on the 7th of December on steam, but people say it's released on the 15th? Is the 7th just pre order?
The original announced release date was December 15th. Valve recommended they release on the 7th so they bumped it up a week. Thanks for watching!

@@arrivedknight7632 It's easy to play, but there is a lot to wrap your head around. Follow the tutorial and read all the screens then you'll be all set

There is a very active Discord. Check the video description for links. The game also has an extensive tutorial and the very first screen you see when you start the game tells you how to start it

Why is Derail valley the only train game that can do steam engines correctly?
I think they sound fine for early access. This is not the final product.
@@KerboOnYT i will withhold judgment until the game is fully released, but in its current state they really need to improve steam simulation. The diesels sound great though.
