- I love the retro looking HeroQuest miniatures and wanted to print and paints loads so thought making a HeroQuest chess set would be just an awesome way to do that.

That's absolutely fantastic! Even this paint job would absolutely worth a tutorial! It's all the things I love about HQ!
for the hero knight, print the dwarf on top of a treasure chest, i think it would convey the idea.
Cool idea, I put the dwarf in the tower for the castle and put an elf sitting across a chest but great minds almost think alike 😊
There could be a greenskin set, and an undead/chaos set with gargoyle as the queen. For the good side use a mix of heroquest and battle masters. The rook towers should have archers or crossbowmen to represent the long range attack distance of the rook, while the pawns should have melee weapons. If you want wolf riders, there's a split battle masters wolf ("giant wolf miniature" on thingiverse) of which one side can be mirrored for a standing position that would fit on a small base. Maybe something similar could be done with a battle masters horse for a mounted knight that fits on a small base.

Awesome! Back in the 90’s I used my Hero Quest figures with the chess board I made in wood shop. So much fun!

The Knights could be Nightmares, like in Curse of Strahd. As for set up.... Queen on color, white on right. (White Queen on a white square, Black Queen on black square, and a white square should be on each of the players right corner.

For the knights, use minis from Battle Masters. Also made by GW and has the same molds for most minis.
That's really cool. For the heroes side I would do henchmen as pawns, male&female elves as rooks, male&female dwarves as knights, male&female mages as bishops, Barbarian as queen, and Mentor as King.
Like the ideas, I have used many of what you said but for different pieces

I just downloaded the STL’s for an avengers chess set. Often thought about making a Warhammer chess set.
The knight could be one of the custom Sir Ragnar figures out there

I remember when I was at school being in a chess club and not being very good at it but, nonetheless, I did enjoy your video so thankyou for posting it.
My suggestion for the good side would be to make them a literal interpretation of the original chess pieces with a king and a queen and knights etc. I liked the way you did the castle pieces for the orks and thought you could do the same again here.

This is a bit off the topic of this video, but as a suggestion I would love to see a resin diorama made using the Creature from the Black Lagoon model from the Classic Movie Monsters stls by Heroes and Beasts! Love the content and can’t wait to see more!

great video. I know this may not be easy to do but for the hero's side for the pawns you could use the old Advanced heroquest henchmen mini design I know technically they where badguys but the could work well for the set.
Cheers, I found some elven archers for the heroes pawns, not sure if they are good or bad but seem to fit what I was after lol 😊
like the chess set and maybe elves on the other side or humans.... i would do colours as i always do them cus i did them in the 90's with the black and white and then painted and washed with homemade washs ... using the old good craft paints from micheals or a walmart

There was.an.expansion set with soldiers in the hero quest line, would be perfect for pawns.

Do they have the Advanced Hero Quest miniature range? they had a knight in that game and some different heros
The AHQ henchmen would make good pawns.
How do you stop your printed tiles from curling? Any time I print any tile in resin, it curls really badly (even weighting and gluing to mdf, they eventually lift at the corners and continue to curl up)
Yup mine do the same which is why I glue them down straight away, even 10mm tiles still warp if left alone lol 😊
You made a green skin set. No undead monsters?
I am kinda bias as I love orcs lol
