As a Detroiter and long time Jolly watcher, this brings a tear my freaking eyes! 😢😊 YES!!! Everyone is always going on and on about Chicago style pizza. DETROIT STYLE DEEP DISH is what we were raised on! (We just call it deep dish) and there’s several restaurants that only sell this style. You’d just call it pepperoni. Thanks for showcasing this
I was telling my sister about this pizza (we're in our 60s) and she had never heard of Detroit style pizza. As I described it she said "you mean Buddy's?" So she had known about it all along from the original creator.
Y'know, I grew up in East Detroit before we moved to Grosse Pointe and the only pizza we, or anyone in our neighborhood, ever had was round pizza. I didn't try Cloverleaf until 2014 or so when I was visiting my parents.

As one that was born in Detroit and has tried virtually all Detroit pizzerias, this almost made me cry!!! We knew it was only a matter of time before we got the respect we deserve!!!

Detroit Resident here, and I abosolutly LOVE Jolly and KoreanEnglishman! But I have to say that the Best Detroit Pizza you can get, is without a doubt inside Detroit itself. I hope you guys come to Detroit and find the best Pizza's and food in the city! I get first-hand experience because I actually live on W Vernor where a lot of GREAT food are located

Detroit Style pizza is amazing, and is the only U.S.-based style of pizza allowed to call itself pizza outside of New York and New Haven style.

I lived in Detroit for a year and never even had the pizza! 😂 I couldn’t get off the Polish and German, the Mexican and Middle Eastern, and omg the Greek! Detroit is a freaking food-lovers paradise.

I've never had Detroit pizza, and I live in the US. No one in the comments could recommend a restaurant in the States with the best Detroit pizza? I don't know when I'll ever get to Detroit, but it might be worth a detour. Or do I have to go to London to get it? 😂

Detroiter here born and raised. 0:44 did a good job on the first one. He's got the greased pan, the deep dish high burnt crust and the sauce on top like it's supposed to be, looks good so far.

Also I will add the the most underrated pizza style next to Detroit is New Haven style. Think of it just a bit thinner than NY style but still made in a coal fired oven. It's so good. It has the structure, crisp and chew that I find Neopolitan lacking in (personal pref ofc)

What I love about Max is that how He's never underselling how good the food he's eating. I've noticed that most people when they eat something mouthwatering, they just said, "It's so Good". Like Guys, there's a word for "So Good".
This makes me so happy to see. I grew up 30 minutes from the original Buddy's Pizza, and it was always a treat going there. There's a surprising amount of national pizza chains that have come from Michigan, with some such as Domino's (shout out Ypsilanti, Mi) which have gone international. Growing up here has left me with a love of pizza and automobiles lol.
I am literally crying at the joy here, the brotherhood, and the pride of the chef. I have been moved to tears over food before. I'd probably be sobbing through the whole meal here. Regards from Indiana!
As someone from Detroit, when I first heard “Detroit style pizza” I was like, “What on earth is that????” And then I found out and was like, “Wait, the rest of everyone didn’t already have this?!?!” Glad it’s become popular bc that crispy cheese situation is perfection ❤
This video was amazingly timely: I was planning to make a Detroit-style pizza for dinner Friday night. The crust won't be so thick, to be kind to my gluten-sensitive gut. I'll top that with some of the mellow, home-pickled Vidalia onion slices in the fridge. Might buy some marinated mushrooms to go with that. The cheese will be shingled slices of mozzarella and muenster. And to save time, for my taste Newman's Own Sockarooni sauce does great as a pizza sauce, poured extra-liberally over the toppings and cheese. I have a coupon, good this week, for 10$ off a 50$ purchase at the grocery store, so this pizza is one way I intend to use it.

@@HotVoodooWitch The toppings don't matter. It's the way it's cooked that makes it "Detroit style". (And, I might add because it's Saturday morning now, it turned out most deliciously. The store had sliced non-smoked provolone, so I used that instead of mozzarella. I also threw some little tomatoes on with the other toppings, since they'd been in the fridge a while and must not go to waste.)
lol detroiter here too - it's fun to explain that growing up I just called it a mix of "deep dish", "square pizza" or "jets/buddys/(insert sports bar here) pizza". It's even more fun to explain that it was sort of a regional thing within Metro Detroit until recently too, mostly an eastside thing

It is streets ahead of the lukewarm soggy undercooked casseroles that Chicago calls pizza.

@@ArohaStill: You are close, but Detroit pizza is a different version of the Sicilian sfincione: it has tomato sauce and should have brick cheese. However, since brick cheese is not readily available everywhere, typical substitutes are a blend of jack, mozzarella, and fresh Parmesan.

Born and raised in Detroit. My first Detroit pizza was Buddy's at 6 mile and Conant. The original Detroit pizza and the original restaurant. Jet's came years and years later
Jets, like most other chains, sucks. Loui’s Pizza in Hazel Park, MI is #1.
My first pizza was good ol' Little Caesar's ... with anchovies. There I was, just 2 or 3, pulling all the little tiny fiber-y bones out of the cooked blobs of anchovy, and then YOM-YOM-YOM-YOM-YOM down the hatch with those salty little suckers. All our pizzas back in those days had anchovies on them. I didn't question it. To this day, that is what comes to mind when I think of pizza: cheese, onions, anchovies, and a whole bunch of tomato sauce. 🥰
@@merriemisfit8406 I absolutely LOATHE Little Caesar's. I was so happy when I moved to NYC because among other things, the pizza was SO much better. I finally weaned my dad off LC's a few years before he died; I got him pizza from a local bakery instead.
@@HotVoodooWitch I'm very forgiving about pizza. The only one I remember negatively came from Straw Hat in Malibu, California when I was living there ... a very long time ago. We got a veggie pizza from there one night: the crust tasted like it had been made from pulverized saltines, and the selection of vegetables on top (including chopped broccoli) just turned out rather dry, unappealing in both appearance and flavor.

A group of us went to Detroit Pizza London about a year ago before the Ravens - Titans game in London, and I'm glad we went there when it opened because it got crowded fast! And no wonder, it's one of the best pizzas we've had. I'm definitely going back there whenever I'm in London again, it is simply fantastic!

I'm half Sicilian and my grandpa who's from Sicily used to make pizza on a cookie sheet. We are from Missouri but I imagine he had this in his home country. He was an amazing cook and he left Sicily when he was 17! Must have learned alot before he left!

Metro Detroiter here: You gents really need to make a trek out here to Detroit and experience the Big 3 OG Detroit style pizza places: Buddy's (the one on Conant St in Detroit, where the original Detroit Pizza was created), Cloverleaf Pizza in Eastpointe, MI (the restaurant that the creator of Detroit Pizza, Gus Guerra, opened after he left Buddy's) and Loui's Pizza in Hazel Park, MI (Another former Buddy's chef, Louis Tourtois opened up this place in 1977 and to me this my absolute favorite Detroit Style Pizza, and Yelp just listed it the #1 Pizza Spot in the Midwest for good reason). I think you guys would be in heaven!

Cadillac just means top of the line, fancy. It is a high end car brand (well it used to be…). But using the word Cadillac refers to the best, all the bells and whistles, fancy, etc.
Funny to have that name in London, since most Brits don't know what it refers to.

Serious Eats has an excellent recipe. We cook in in the bbq because our oven doesn't get hot enough. Works out great.
@@diggie_b7888 I have yet to see an authentic regional recipe for anything on Serious Eats. The one that really had me shaking my head was the one for an "authentic" NYC-style bacon-and-egg sandwich on a Kaiser roll.

In Detroit if you want more corners for an XL pizza, they just make two small square, that way, you have 8 corners for one order.

As a Metro Detroiter and am so happy you love the pizza. You should come to Michigan and try some of our other unique favorites like Vernors & Faygo pops, Sanders Bumpy Cake, pasties.. all iconic Detroit/Michigan flavors.
I live in Michigan, we have a chain that does Detroit style deep dish (Jets). They have an 8 corner pizza, it's the same size as a large, but they use two smaller pans. It's great for those corner lovers!
I live in Dearborn, which is the hometown of Henry Ford and where Ford headquarters is.
I guess I just always knew about Detroit pizza so it was eye opening to find out that a lot of people don't. I'm glad to see you guys like it :-)
For me, it's a different experience than say in New York slice. It's not really hey this is better than that or vice versa it's just you get in the mood for a particular style. :-)

I grew up in Detroit and this looks so authentic! Great job. And there was a place in Detroit that sold an 8 corners pizza...but it was just 2 squares in the same box.

I love Pizzas! 🍕 I am so glad you returned with the boys to film and eat this again. Detroit Pizzas are one of my favorites. They are so much better than the Chicago deep dish. Yes, start with the crunchy corner, which is the best part…that’s where I start with all that crunchy fluffy goodness!!! 😊 The Hawaiian or Pineapple Detroit or Pizza in general is one of my top favorites!!! (Maui Wowee) 😍 YUMMY!

It's not that bad -- I think the original trays were used for holding bolts and screws and that kind of stuff, not for catching crankcase drainage.

Mr. M: I don't know why we're having to buy so many parts trays, but I DO know that you HAVE to have a taste of this! All the guys on the assembly line are bringing in pizza for lunch every day now, and one of them gave me an extra square when I was just down there. Try it!
It’s a bit oily on the bottom, so when you have leftover, you can reheat it by putting it in a pan on the stove on low for about 10 minutes to recrisp the crust.
Ollie's comment about not caring about Italy and their pizza preferences reminds me of languages over the world. I mean, the UK and US speak English, but we call it different branches of the same language. It's the same way with Parisian French and Quebec French. Be it Napoli, New York, San Francisco, Chicago, or Detroit, there are different branches of pizza.

WOW...first time i have seen Armand and Max since the Korean school videos...Armand has stayed his tall, slim, handsome self with his trademark ear to ear smile...while Max has morphed into a taller, slimmer version of himself with some facial hair...and it seems that they are still the best of buds....wish them well. nice to see them again...Max is like a whole new person.!

Fried pasta exists in Italy, it is called Frittata di pasta. Usually leftover pasta from lunch or dinner is used. It's a way to not waste food. Usually, however, nothing remains of the lasagna.😁

Normally, I hate saying anything is "the best," but Detroit pizza quite possibly is the best pizza I have ever had. Chicago comes very close and it is very different. New York is nice and cheesy and such fun to fold in half. Something about the fluffiness of Detroit style often combined with the best freshest herbiest ingredients is just amazing. It knocks your socks off.
There's a bakery called Bommarito's in St. Clair Shores that makes slammin' sfincione. You can buy it by the slice or by the tray.
I grew up and still live in the Detroit Metro area. Detroit-style pizza is the best, distinct from Chicago and New York style pizzas. 💙
Having lived in NYC for almost 50 years, I'm very partial to that pizza, although the quality has deteriorated over the years--the old guys retired and died off and their kids didn't want to make pizza. Still, Joe's and Pizza Suprema are fabulous. Now that I've moved back to Detroit, I really like Cloverleaf and my local bakery's sfincione (without anchovies). I've had Chicago deep-dish in Chicago and was underwhelmed--I found it too doughy. I decided to give it another chance and ordered some frozen on Goldbelly when it was on sale and STILL found it too doughy.
Had lunch this week at a detroit style pizza place w/my nephew's italian fiance who loved it. They said it reminded them of the kind of pizza they would make at home or Roman pizza. Either way it's bangin',

When I was in my 20s my friends and I went to Chicago to do the Chicago things,one was a Chicago pizza. Luckily we had a local and she guided us to the best! What a wonderful friend. Took us to Second City and other places and other places to meet legends who were sooo sweet!

Detroit style pizza is my new favourite kind of pizza. Buttery crust with melted cheese. Fluffy and soft bread. Yum! Costco sells Detroit style pizza, and it's so good and also cheaper than ordering from Dominoes, Pizza-hut, or other chains!
