range issue might be because of your embouchure but it doesn't look that bad, use flow studies, long tones, and remember when playing higher to close your aperture (size of the hole between your lips), firm the corners of your lips, do NOT press the mouthpiece against your face, since that stops the buzz, lift your tongue close to the roof of your mouth, and try to blow faster, colder air, whereas for low notes use a much larger aperture and warmer air.
kind in an orchestra thats amazing bro that means your making some banger progress man but imagine marching like playing thats more hard then that but its fun
Thanks! I actually did marching once, with my school concert band. It’s really hard to keep steady while walking so that you don’t bounce and you can still play. But I had fun :) Do you do marching?
@@jumpycan yea i did marching few months ago it was titles the black widow for my highschool year rn got 2 more years of marching then thats it unless i do dci
@@dannyvcup1 that’s pretty fire. I just started marching this year on saxophone, and idk if you’ve heard of Irondale, but we’re one of the best in my state, so it was pretty hardcore. We have people on our visual team that worked with the blue devils. Our show this year was called Comp. #24 in red yellow and blue. We even went to WGI Indianapolis this year, and I joined my drumline which won world champs in 2023 this winter.
Yay orchestra 👏👏👏 Increasing range has always been a pain in the bum. My coach says it's a good idea to get comfortable with the notes just below the target notes first.
with that range thing you were talking about in the description, it WILL come with practice, just, not over the course of 3 weeks :) it will also take a lot of time, keep at it and good luck!
Congrats on the new orchestra!! To preface I'm not actually a trumpet player; I march mello with a trumpet mouthpiece and play oboe lol. It sounds like your air isn't being fully supported, therein the stuffy/airy sound. Take a deep breath and push more on the diaphragm as you play, it takes a lot of air to play brass. You could also be leaking air from your corners, but I'm more sure it's the former that's influencing the tone quality. Another thing you want to consider is your note changes; there's this sort of 'splat' in your transitioning right now. I don't think it's necessarily a problem with your embouchure, it seems more likely to be your tongue weight and/or not keeping consistent air flow during the changes. For tongue weight, visualize the usage of the tip and only the tip; the way I've been taught to achieve this is by dropping your tongue down into your mouth, making sure that when you play you're only using the tip of your tongue, and everything else is at rest. This will help in taking away the heaviness of your transitions. To tie into this, you want to keep your air flow constant. Blow with the same amount of air as you change notes, and you can practice this with your scales and long tones. To address your range problems: how are you practicing it, and are you practicing it correctly? Have you asked your teacher for certain tricks for practice? Have you thought of any other ways to tackle the issue? I can't give you advice on how to fix your range (except for more, MORE air) cause frankly mine sucks too loll, but you should definitely have your teacher explain it with more precision. Hope this helps, happy practicing!
Oboe is really cool! About my range, I just do scales and hope I reach the notes. When I don’t I try to address the problem and I try again. About asking my teacher, the most precise advice he’s given me is to use my diaphgram, but it was more for tone rather than range. He’s not a trumpet player so I can’t really ask specific questions. However, yesterday I did ask my trumpet coach at the orchestra about how to get a more consistent range. She said that I should practice, like a lot, and play the scales that I need to work on in different manners like long tones and staccato. About the tongue thing, I tried it and the difference I notice is so big. So thank you! My air isn’t consistent, like I use more air at the attack of the note similar to playing an accent. I don’t know if that’s good or not. I guess it is in some situations and not in others.
@@jumpycan You shouldn't be using your air to attack or start notes; your tongue is what is doing the heavy-lifting. Try sizzling and adding your accents in, keeping your airflow constant. When you start a phrase you should be using the same amount of air all throughout, only modifying it like a pressure valve so you can hit your partials.
Good job! Try to use more of your lip muscles and less of your actual vibrating lips to make the sound and you trone will imrove as well as your range! Keep uo the great work and remember that time make pratice, and practice makes perfect, not being speedy gonzales about everything! God bless you!
Your tone is a better since I have last checked! I love the improvement you have made
Best of luck on your journey
