In the 60s n 70s we were all trying to make ourselves a bike that was better than everyone else's, all cobbled together from the parts from about 8 other bikes ..... Then Raleigh beat us to it ..... an absolute Gem. I always wanted the Mustard Yellow one but Mum n Dad couldn't afford to buy me one or they would have. I'm in my 60s now and to this day I have never ever ridden one but I will do one day before the Undertaker comes 🤣 Cheers Quinny

What a perfect rebuild, a carbon (….. well, non carbon actually) copy of mine in the same colour from 70, or was it 71, down to every detail. It was cleaned and chrome polished every week without fail. Until that it is I grew out of it and it rusted away in the garden shed. If only...... The eyes are now beginning to mist! Enjoy it while you can, in sure you will!

The first one I saw was on holiday in Prestatyn (Wales) in the street. It was orange and I was blown away with how different it was than anything else. I pestered my parents for one for about a year and got an Horizon Blue Mk1 for my 11th birthday in 1972. It was expensive at the time £35 and I had to have it as a combined Xmas & birthday present. I have now had a replacement Horizon Blue for 8 years.

Oh I am a fan of those bikes though I never thought they were as early as 1970/1971. I used to think they were manufactured during the mid-70s but there you have it you live and learn. I’d love if there was a version of one of these exactly the same, but it was a fold up version. When I was about 11/12 years old, I had the slightly lower model called the Tomahawk which I liked and it had exactly the same type of seat as yours. The Tomahawk I had, was a lovely purple collar and of course it didn’t have the gearstick. I have to say, these are my favourite type of bikes and I’d love to have a go on one of these. Unfortunately, I grew out of the Tomahawk quite quick but wish I’d got a Chopper after as it is virtually the same but bigger and with other features. You have certainly restored that bike to brand-new mint looking condition. Do you frequently use this bike or are you selling it just as a matter of curiosity?

Hi , Thanks for enjoying iconic Brands great to hear feedback. I’ve been asked many times if I’d like to sell my Raleigh collection of bikes and resist because I enjoy the social side as well as the bikes themselves which i will hand down to my grandchildren .
